Good but not perfect
I used super saver shipping and it took about 3 weeks to get it. When it finally arrived, it was packaged well and after a charge fired right up.

I need to clip the hedges about 3 times a summer.
So far I've trimmed about 25 bushes and it works as well as the old electric one it replaced. Its light and so far the battery has held a charge well. I really like not having to use the extenstion cord which my Dad cut with the previous corded trimmer.

A couple complaints are that my right hand gets a cramp after about 20 minutes as it tends to continually squeeze the on/off switch probably much harder than necessary. I also notice that the plastic case seems to separate a bit when I am moving through heavy work. I'm sure there are better/study units out there but for the occasional work I do, this fits the bill. Good value for the money
I wanted a reconditioned tool because the cost was cheaper than a brand new one. Considering I do yardwork only 1-2 times per month, I didn't need a "really good" one.

This B&D trimmer did a good job on branches up to 3/8" thick. Anything thicker will result in "tearing" instead of cutting.

It's fairly loud and the ergonomics are not that great. However, for the price I paid here on Amazon, it is a good deal.

The best!
If you are looking for a trimmer that can deal with shrubs and bushes in the heat, or extended running time, this is it! The price is appropriate, and the quality that you will get from it is outstanding!

Another lawn-care purchase from Amazon.com!
Last year I bought a lawn mower; my wife was so satisfied with this purchase from Amazon, that this was the first place she looked when shopping for a badly needed hedge trimmer.

Suffice to say, we were not disappointed. The purchase arrived at our home from the Amazon.com Tool Crib in North Dakota in a timely manner via UPS; the hedge trimmer was already assembled, in mint condition (for a reconditioned item), and it came with a new purchase warranty, but not at a new-purchase price.

It is an excellent trimmer; sturdy, lightweight and easily manuverable. My 100lb. wife took a turn playing with it and was able to wield this baby in a manner that make a fan of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movies proud!

For the price, I would highly recommend this product, if you are in the market for a good, reliable, sturdy and easy-to-use hedge trimmer.

Left hand grip breaks due to inferior quality part
The metal left hand grip is attached to the handle with a flimsy plastic part that breaks from the vibrations of normal use. Mine broke after about 3 years of infrequent use in the Northeast. I stored the unit in a dark garage, so UV could not have been a factor. They should have named it "Glass Hog" instead of "Grass Hog". The time and effort required to replace the part, plus the cost of the part plus shipping, makes it uneconomic to repair the trimmer. Black & Decker design their products to last for the 2-year warranty period but not much more.

Two in Less thanTwo Years
I've just returned my second B&D string trimmer for the same mechanical problem -- the spool flies off while in use.The grooves holding the spool onto the drive shaft eventually strip.I used this product approximately twice a month during the grass-cutting season (March through October)...not heavy use in my opinion.I can only recommend that you not waste your time on this product.

Awesome from a Paid Professional
I have mowed 3 yards for 2 years now, a combination of 3 acres, only having to buy more cord (6) so far, and just recently another cord cover.
I've gotten numerous mowings out of this little machine.
True enough on the thick grass that would stall your lawn mower this weedeater doesn't stand a chance. I've used gas and corded weedeaters. Unless they just make some lemons no one has the right to give this machine anything less than 4 stars.

Small and Mighty
This Lightweight trimmer is easy to carry around, and does an excellent job.
A Charge seems to last forever.I Mow with a push reel mower, and the occasional long bit is left behind.I just follow up with this, and the lawn looks great!It is quiet and easy on the environment too.

underpowered for any real application
I wanted an electric string trimmer because I don't like the noise of a gas powered trimmer.A cordless trimmer appealed to me because I don't have to haul 100 feet of extension cord to use it.

Even though my yard is very small (1/4 acre) and I have nothing but grass to trim along the house and fence, this trimmer was far too under-powered.It simply wouldn't cut grass efficiently.I also found the automatic string feed to be unreliable...I would always end up with about 1 inch of string and I would have to tap it against the ground to try to get it to feed.Also, I found the unit uncomfortable to use - it's poorly balanced due to the heavy battery.

This season I broke down and replaced the cordless trimmer with a small 25cc gas powered unit.It is very noisy, but it gets the job quicker, easier, and better.

Unless you have a complete phobia of gas powered trimmers, I would not recommend this tool. ... Read more
