Solidly built
I was impressed by the quality of the construction.It doesn't have the wobbly wheels I've seen on some hand trucks.The only reason I didn't give it a 5, is because I bought it to use as a garden cart, thinking the holders on the back would be perfect for small garden tools.That proved to be true, however it was not clear from the picture or the description that there is a metal post that extend up in the center of the portion that would normally be slid under the edge of a piece of furniture.Because I didn't get it to move furntiure, it was easy enough to overcome this particular feature, but it would have been nice to know before I bought it. ... The first thing you'll notice about Bosch's rotary hammer is its great ergonomics, which clearly were a major consideration in the design of the hammer. The grip and trigger mechanism are well integrated, especially the front grip, and long enough to accommodate different body styles (I've got long arms; my buddy is the opposite: we both liked the tool's feel). For a rotary hammer, design is especially critical during overhead and down-drilling operations, where fatigue can quickly rear its ugly head. The tool's vario-lock positioning is great; it gives you 36 different working angles to choose from so you can modify the tool to fit the application. Likewise, the hammer offers three operational modes: hammer only, rotation only, and hammer with rotation. We really appreciate the self-contained dust removal system, which does a great job of keeping the mess to a minimum. Are there drawbacks? Not many. The bit-changing mechanism is a little stiff and a little cumbersome, perhaps--but that's a pretty minor negative in a tool that otherwise provides such pleasant operation. Good but not the best
I use this hammer drill to place expansion bolts in stone for rock climbers.My experience in hard sandstone is that the tool will drill around 10 holes with a new bit, 3/8" by 4" deep before needing a recharge.It's light and fast and seems to be fairly durable, a big improvement over the old Bulldog.But when it comes to real power in a cordless hammer drill think Hilti as in model TE5.I used one of those a while back and although a bit heavier this thing drilled 15 holes and was still going strong when I had to quit. ... excellent for doing brute work
Used this hammer drill to bore 1-1/4 inch holes for lag bolts in foundation.Took about 5 minutes per hole when drilling to 6 inch depth.Probably would have taken less time with a sharper carbide bit, but Boschhas a powerful tool for what is a brutal job.Vibration while stillpresent was less than I expected ... Like a hot knife through butter!
I had a dual-mode Milwaukee hammer drill that was tried and true and never let me down. It was unbelievably efficient in performance. However, it was a regular chuck model with key and so I couldn't use any of the quick change SDS Plus bits --OR-- chip and chisel with it. I researched all of the models out there and compared features and prices. For my needs, this Bosch tri-mode fills the bill perfectly. It has more than enough power to handle normal drilling in thick metal as well as impact drilling in poured cement, concrete, cinderblock and brick. If you need a big brute hammer drill to do excessive heavy drilling in super-hard substances, look at the other brands and models. This Bosch model is perfect for me as I'm a handyman and encounter a variety of scenarios where holes need to be drilled or tiles chipped up or thin layers of cement chipped away and chiseled off. I also purchased the Bosch chuck adapter so that I could use regular round shank drill bits with it. Well-designed accessory that's worth the money. For my needs, it's a great power tool with good heft, balance and plenty of punch and power. Also, the carrying case was well designed with compartments to accomodate the adapter and several bits.

Quality, Power, Features.. It has it all
I bought what to my guess is the 220v version of this hammer. Exact same feature set and spec - except for the AC line.

I went out and bought it after a drain pipe, which was laid in concerete in my house started leaking, at first I started chiseling using a cold chisel and a sledge - few hours work to get to the pipe. Then I also had to reach another point in the pipe and decided that I had enough.
Breaking through the same thinkness of concrete using the Bosch hammer (in hammering only / rotation lock mode) took less then 10 minutes, and was very easy on the operator (me).

A few weeks later I used it to set three 3/4" anchors in a concrete wall in my building. Drilling the holes - 5 inches deep each, was a breeze.
Safety clutch worked very well. In fact, I was not even aware that this hammer had a safety clutch until the bit hit a reinforcement steel rod - rotation action instantly stopped, while hamerring action continued. I didn't feel even the slightest torque blow on my hands when it happened, and, pulling the bit back was fairly simple thanks to the fact that the hammering action still functioned.

Also, the internal reduction gear makes this tool a good choice for screw driving, it succeeded where similar power, but higher RPM, electrical drills had failed.
My unit came with an automatic three jaw chuck, which works great for steel and wood drill bits, as well as for screwdriver bits, and takes 10 seconcds or less to replace with the SDS-Plus chuck.

One nitpick - for non-professional use, the SDS bits can get pricy, especially the larger diameter, longer ones: a 16x400mm bit cost me .... (then again, for non-profession use, the whole story is somewhat expensive to begin with...)

I cannot testify for the durability of the tool, since I do not use it so often - you'll have to go for other reviews for that.

This is a well built, ergonomic, powerful, and feature laden tool, all feature are useful - no toy features. and, at least my unit, came in a quality plastic case that I'm using as a day-to-day toolbox for the hammer and it's accessories.

If you can afford it, cannot rent or borrow one when you need it, and do even occasional concrete drilling or chiseling - worth the price.

7/8 is plenty for aged concrete
I bought the 7/8" Bosch a few weeks ago to destroy an old concrete porch, clean a large vertical crack in my cement stairs, and to generally cause havoc with a badly designed and poorly executed fieldstone walk that surrounds my little 1938 Tudor Revival House.If you live in an aging concrete house, buy this tool.

I've used the larger Bosch hammers, but could not afford them.I can rent those when needed.This one is light, and has just enough "kick" on the hammer-only function to cut through the rather soft concrete that I'm working on.

I also bought the SDS-to-3-jaw chuck adapter, and that attachment renders a really nasty drill for pressure treated wood.

The tool itself, and the Bosch hammer drill bits and chisels are all high-quality tools.It's a pleasure to use them.The alternative, a cold chisel and baby sledge, is unthinkable now. ... Read more

Bosch is it for Rotary Hammers
I've owned an earlier version since 1982. It's taken more abuse than you can imagine. Other brands just don't compare to Bosch's.

The best spline drive hammer you can buy.
I had one of these hammers for years. Let me tell you it's one tough tool. We abused it. It's made primarily for drilling with light chipping as an option. As a drill it excells. Faster than Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita,Hitachi. For its weight it hits hard. Where we abused it was in using it asa chipping hammer or more accurately a breaker. As a breaker it's prettyslow. So it would run for hours on end breaking concrete out in basementsto access plumbing. The tool never gave up. It ran as good the day I soldit as the day I first took it out of the box. It was so used that therubber grip on the handle was gone. I still got 175.00 for it. Why did Isell it? I upgraded to SDS max. It's better than spline. When they inventSDS super duper max, I'll probably upgrade again. If you have a lot ofspline steel, you can't go wrong with this tool. If you don't,Buy the11230EVS or the 11235EVS. good drill for the money
Bought this drill to install a hand rail on the in-law's porch...50 year old concrete...and had no intention of using a start drill for the holes. Altho the drill seems to get hot pretty quickly, given the angle that I had to be in to drill the holes, several breaks for ME were needed anyway.

it gets hot
I recently purchased this drill (the 1194VSRK) and it works pretty well. However, it gets HOT extremely easily (after a couple of minutes.) Does this happen to everyone?

I picked a reconditioned one up at a local hardware store(7-corners, the KING of all hardware with the largest tool selectionin the world)What a great value. I've used the milwaukee hammer drill, and it is alittle shorter and easier to use, but I am really a moderate user - not acontractor, just a hard-core DIY-er. This is a great value over themilwaukee (which I've used), although the milwaukee is the standard bywhich I judge. Hence the four stars. I have a bosch 3/8 drill and a boschplaner, and have had a bosch cordless drill.
