DeWalt DW567KK not living up to expectations
I purchased this tool last March using it ocassionally. On one ocassion I chipped mortar off some cinder block so I could frame a door opening. Then I used it to drill 5/16" x 2" deep holes in brick to install shutters. The other day I used it to hammer-drill 15, 1/2" holes in concrete to assist with cutting out a slot in 8" concrete to allow underground power to go up a wall to the main panel on a new house. I used it for about 45 minutes, with a few breaks for me to rest. Then I pulled out the chisel for this tool and used the hammer selection along with a sledge hammer to bust out the concrete. It did great until I started smelling something burning. The black oil started showing up in the chuck on the drill bits. Now it is off to DeWalt for repair. Should last longer than this. Dissappointing.

Great for home handymen
I have a hammer drill that I have used for several years with disappointing results. After researching several rotary hammers, I selected the DeWalt based on rated power, bit capacity, D style handle, overall length and cost (I must admit I also like the bright yellow color). I used the chisel mode to remove tile from two bathroom shower/tubs and stubborn thinset from floor tile. The tool worked great. I can now also sink holes into aged concrete with ease. I like it; it is a good tool for jobs involving aged concrete.

Worst tool I ever owned
I am a retired bricklayer. I do many odd jobs now to keep me busy. I bought this toolbecause I thought it would be a help in my line of work. It performed miserably. I used it to mix some grout for a tile floor. On the second pail of grout, the drill burned out.Don't buy this item.You will be totally disappointed.Go with the bosch SDS hammer. Hole Drilling Machine
What would you call a drill that takes the abuse of drilling on a daily basis 5" holes in 3" or thicker cement? Then change out the bits and drill 1 1/2" holes through 6 inch thick poured walls? Not just one hole, but 8 of them. Then switch to the chisel bit and hammer the hole out to run pipe through. That's what kind of daily use our 'Big Boy' gets. Cutting those cement cores out, drilling, hammering - this tool will do for most light industrial applications. I HAVE OWNED AND STILL OWN A DW530K FOR 5 YEARS AND PUT IT THROUGH HELL. SON OF A GUN STILL GOING STRONG!SO, WE ADDED ANOTHER TO OUR CREW AND WE BOUGHT THE DW532K SAME GREAT SERVICE WE'VE HAD IT FOR TWO YEARS. NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER. BEFORE THE DEWALTS WE HAVE STILL(ON A SHELF)TWO BOSCH ROTO-HAMMERS AND TWO BOSCH 90# J-HAMMERS. EVERY YEAR GETTING THEM REBUILT.FOR 6 YEARS. I was comparing various rotary hammers and I feel this one has some very strong points, but it could use a few more assessories and a little more power to use them such as digging clay, dirt or other earth work ascompared to a comparable Makita model, with other models falling short incomparison.Other then that, even with Dewalt costing a little more, Ihave found a favorite spot in my toolcrib for any Dewalt product I have putto hard use and the 532 has a good chance to find its way to my buy list. ... Shank differences
This Dewalt Model has a spline shank chuck.To use the accessories that are shown ie; sds plus bits, calls for an adapter that changes from spline to sds plus.This adapter does not come with hammer drill and must be purchased separately.Anyone buying the sds plus bits as shown will be quite upset when they can't use them right away.There are a number of adapters available: spline to max, & spline to a 1/4-20 threaded end to accept a hammer drill chuck for round type shanks.With these as part of the total kit, you have a very good hammer drill.You have a very good hammer drill if you choose to use only spline shank bits, also. ... Beyond the call of duty
The DW540 1 1/2" SDS Max Rotary Hammer did everything that we needed it to do and very well at that. Using the 1/2" bit, we drilled holes into shelf rock all day long with ease. And when it came to hammering out some rock to get our forms in, it did that very well also and with power to spare. It doesn't replace an 80 pound jack hammer but for the smaller jobs, I don't think you could ask for a better tool. My only regret is that I didn't buy this tool sooner! Good but not the best
I bought one of these a couple of years ago.Before that I had the Hitaci DH38YE I also had the Bosch 1 1/2" spline hammer. I have to be honest. The Bosch is a better tool. It just hits harder. It also runs cooler. The Dewalt isn't a bad tool. It's just that there are better hammers on the market. I sold all of them and got an SDS max hammer. It blows spline away. It is quickly replacing spline as the top rotary hammer offering. It is a tighter mechamism and transfers more power to the bit. this means faster drilling speeds and less vibration to your hands. ... Read more
