This trimmer suffers from several critical defects
This trimmer suffers from several critical defects:
The depth adjustment is difficult to use and worse loosens often during use unless you tighten the lock knob with a tool instead of your hands
The base doesn't sit at a reliable ninety degrees so one side of the router trims to a different depth than the other
The collet has an on-board lock that grabs the motor leaving you with no leverage to loosen it, i.e. you have just one wrench and holding the motor with one hand while turning the wrench with the other after a 30,000 rpm motor has tightend the collet isn't fun.
Not ready for prime time.

Poor workmanship
This router is poorly built. I send back the one I received for replacement and the new one had the same problems. On both routers the base was not square with router and they had high vibration. I also found the routers to be heavy, large and awkward to use.These routers deserve 0 out of 5 stars.

Great little guitar making tool, I own three.
J. Kumorek used this tool putting his Martin Guitar Kit together, so I thought I'd try it too on my Martin herringbone D-28 Kit from Martin.It's super, adjusts easily, vertically and horizontally with the bearing guide.I've used downspiral carbide bits and regular carbide rabbetting bits successfully to cut the stairstep binding ledges for acoustic guitars.

One of these tools is dedicated to cutting the tail wedge trim, and I never adjust it.One is set up for cutting the .060 by 1/4 inch binding. The third is set up for purfling ledges inside the outer binding.And they do a great job.

Pretty good tool
I had this trimmer now for about 5 years and I do like it.I still haven't used the angle base but I have used the other bases.It is powerful and I sometimes use it for routing jobs where a larger router would be better.That said, I wish it came with a seaming kit.Also, dewalt tools seem to be a little on the loud side.I use power tools almost everyday and I appreciate a quieter tool. (I once brought a dewalt jigsaw only to exchange it two days later for a bosch jigsaw)That's why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5.

Great on doors too!
This gem rocks for hinge and striker mortise template cuts on doors and jambs. The 5" round disk accepts standard router bushings. The size and weight are great for the job! Try it; you'll love the results!

Comparison User
I have both this trimmer and the comparable Porter Cable 7301.The Porter Cable is the better designed and somoother running unit.For the price difference I'd get the PC model.

I HAVE TWO DEWALT LAMINATE TRIMMERS....ONE WITH A STRAIGHT CUT BIT AND ONE WITH A BEVEL BIT....I USE THESE EVERYDAY TO INSTALL KITCHENS AND COUNTERTOPS....THESE HEADS ARE WORTHLESS...
