    Editorial Review

Mounted in a central location, Shop-Vac's clever 5-gallon Hang-Up wet/dry vacuum is the perfect no-clutter cleaning tool for garages, workshops, laundry rooms, and hobby areas. With the vac's 18-foot locking hose, you can cover a large area without the hassle of maneuvering the tank, and the unit's 4-1/2-horsepower motor delivers impressive suction and airflow of 165 cubic feet per minute. The filtering system features a high-quality cartridge filter, along with a foam sleeve for wet pickup. The vacuum also comes with a complete offering of 1-1/4-inch tools, including extension wands, crevice and gulper tools, and a 12-inch floor nozzle with squeegee insert. A handy tool-storage bracket keeps all tools organized and ready to use. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty decent after all
In my shop I have 2 electric miter saws, 1 full size wood lathe
2 belt grinders, 2 bench grinders with wire wheels on them
    1 drill press, 1 10" planer 1 metal chop saw, 1 14" bandsaw,
    1 6" jointer, 1 10" table saw, 2 router tables, plus a few
hand drills, pad sanders, belt sanders etc etc..
ANyway.. I had a ankle deep acumulation of sawdust/shavings/chips in my shop. This machine is not a super
powerful professional shop tool. On the other hand if you mount
it on the wall and then use the 18' hose to suck up all
the debris in your shop it works pretty well...HOWEVER
first take out the filter that comes in the thing, and replace
it with the foam filter. The finer filter clogged up pretty
quick, however cleaned out well with a blast from the compressor.
The foam filter ups your suction by about 30 percent. The problem I kept having is that I was getting a
clogged hose where the hose meets the machine. Easy to break
up the plug and go on, but annoying.. It seemed to balk the
most at the lathe, I had been turning fir table legs the
day before. This vac is aimed mostly at the fellow who is
going to suck up that bit of dust his hand drill makes
after drilling a small hole. However the photos in the ads show
a guy vacuuminga bandsaw..hmmm.. Anyway after cleaning up
a mess that was more suited to a much more powerfull vac; I suspect that this will keep up with the day to day out put
of chips/sawdust/shavings that all of my machines make. The
concept IS a good one. Mount the vac on the wall in a central
location, and use the long hose to clean up....So for small
to medium work I would rate this vac as most suitable. However
if you want something that will suck a mouse out of the wall
of your garage, no go..Get one of those 10 amp 10 gallon supervacs. But for the day to day shop upkeep... It will do...
And after the HARD work is done I will put the finer filter
back on, cause with the foam filter on, while you get more
suction, you also get a LOT of dust discharge.. The other
filter while it does reduce the suction, also reduces the dust
    output to almost nothing.....
So for convenient shop cleanup this is a good thing...Get one...

2-0 out of 5 stars weak for wood shop
OK for general dust collection but noisy. Clogs easily on wood chips. I was pretty dissapointed for my application. Might be Ok in a garagefor cars but overall not very powerful for all the noise it produces. Look elsewhere

4-0 out of 5 stars Small but powerful
I bought this vac because I only have my 2 car garage to make sawdust in so everything must move aside to get the cars in.What a great vac in a small package! It's out of the way on the wall yet the hose is long enough to reach anywhere I need it.I'm sure there are more powerful vacs available but when you consider price, size and ability this vac is quality at avalue price ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Mine works Great
For the reviewers that complained that they needed to go back to the vac to manually turn off the unit when using the "on-demand" feature, you need to return the unit to be repaired. My vac works perfectly when using the on demand feature. It has a delay of about 6 or 7 seconds before shutting off. This delay is a built in feature that allows the hose to clear itself before shutting down. I think most of the problems mentioned in the reviews have come from not reading the instructions (I must admit, I'm guilty of this myself from time to time). As far as clogging, all vacs with and 1 1/2" hose will clog from wood chips. I invested in the larger hoses that amazon offers, and they fit perfectly into the vac intake. As far as the tool end connection to the hose, this is where good old yankee ingenuity will help. There are rubber fittings available that are "stepped" in size to accomadate different diameter connections, this item doesn't work on all connections, but most. I did have to have the on-demand switch replaced after about 9 months of use (reason for the 4 stars), but other than that this vac has performed extremely well. My main use of the vac is dust collection while being attached to my Bosch orbital sander. It picks up about 95% of the dust, which is a huge improvement over using the attached cloth bags that come with some sanders. I have several of my shop power tools pre-fitted with vac hoses, and simply wheel the vac from tool to tool when needed. This vac is a great alternative to investing in a dust collection system, and all that goes with it, when you don't have the room or the budget.

1-0 out of 5 stars This vacuum sucks--and not in a good way!
I bought this vacuum for use in my garage. I do little DIY jobs here and there, and I'm trying to get into woodworking, so I needed a vac to clean up the sawdust and miscellaneous mess. I looked at reviews on vacuums in woodworking magazines, but couldn't justify paying for the super high dollar vacs. Also, my father had a Shop-Vac while I was growing up that worked fine, so I didn't think I could go too wrong.
But I was mistaken. This is an expensive unit, and one of its draws is the auto function that allows you to plug a power tool into it and have the vac turn on when you fire up the tool. That part works. But it doesn't shut itself off when you turn off the sander, saw, etc. When you have to fumble for the vac power switch after using the tool, I'm not sure you've saved yourself a whole lot by not having to fumble for it right before using it. But this is not my biggest gripe.
The biggest problem with this vac is it has little power and is easily clogged up. The other day I spilled some granulated lawn fertilizer on my garage floor. When I went to vacuum it up, this Shop-Vac sucked it up--but only as far as the hose; the fertilizer never made it to the vacuum. I had to detach the hose and empty the fertilizer out into a gargage can. Afterwards I went around my shop vacuuming up sawdust and small debris. I could go about two minutes between having to pull apart the hose extensions or pull the hose straight to dislodge small (about 3/4") wood chips that had plugged up the vac. This Shop-Vac has only worked for me when I was vacuuming up dry sawdust containing absolutely no woodchips, no matter how small. Even then the attachments seem more suited for cleaning out the crevices in the seats of a car than for vacuuming up sawdust coating a garage floor.
The vacuum's power cord is long, which could be a benefit, but I find it too long for use in my 1-1/2 car garage; the vac just trips up over its own cord. The vacuum hose also is long, but readily coils up, pinching off the vacuum and killing off the suction. The hose is also inconvenient to store on the vac itself. Also, I think a larger diameter hose might be a big improvement, but then I would think the vac would need more power to accommodate.
This has been a big disappointment, unlike some other tools I have obtained for my shop, such as my Porter-Cable circular saw and DeWalt router combo kit. It's bad enough that this tool doesn't work very well; it's made only worse that it cost so much to boot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Damn Shop Vac
I purchased one of the Model 925-63 "On Demand" Shop Vac's about 4 years ago,and the only problem I'm having is getting a replacment 12' foot hose like the one that came with the unit. I originally purchased it from Lowes Center, and the replacment hoses they stock, won't work on my planer or sanders. Would someone please tell me where I can get one. The repair center in my home town can't get one for me either. The only other problem I've had, is with an on demand switch that went bad early on, but the repair center replaced it under warranty, and all is well. I would highly recommend to any woodworker the purchase of this Shop Vac Unit,as it does a very good job, when using it with a sander/planer thru the vac hose system, and thevac unit being controlled via hand tools on/off switch. It does a very good job when in normal Shop Vac usage, sweeping the floors, walls, etc, etc.Vacuuming operations is very compariable to the High Dollar Vac units that sell for 2-3 times the amount of theModel 925-63. P.S. add a Dry Wall Filter Bag,and a secondary Hepa Filter to the unit, and you there isn't another Shop Vac Unit to compare for the Monies invested. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Loud but effective
This product does the job with any application.I've re-plastered the interior of my home and using the 925-40 it the kept dust down and picked up the old material off the floor with no problem.I highly suggest using hearing protection as this unit is rather loud. However, once the switch is on you know you'll be ready to tackle any mess!BTW..purchase the universal adapter you'll find a ton of uses for it!

A must buy from Amazon.com for the do-it-yourselfer or the professional.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heads above its competition!
I got tired of the filter keep falling down my Ridgid 10-gallon shop vacuum (not to mention the hose keeps getting pulled off the unit), so I ordered this Shop-vac on a whim.

What a pleasant surprise! Superior suction, much quieter motor and accessories that fit together like a glove (including a locking hose to unit connector). This is a well-made basic shop vacuum at a very attractive price!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Shop Vacuum
This is a very good vacuum. I love the longer cord so you don't have to drag out extension cords and it can get all the way around my Excursion using it's own cord. It is often the little things that make such a big difference.

While this vac is fairly loud when it is on, it is also extremely powerful. Shop Vacuum is the originator of this type of vacuum. All of the components are strong and this machine should last a long time. While you can buy cheaper prices units, you can't buy a better vac for the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This filter solves my problem.
This product has solved a big problem for me.Cleaning my pellet stove with my Shop Vac has been a pain for years because no matter how forcefully I pressed the keeper ring over the paper/foam filter, at random times the ring would slip off the filters and fine ash would spray into the room.I learned to drape the vac with a big wet towel, and that helped ease the damage.

I decided to buy a better Shop Vac.But I discovered that there are better filters for every Shop Vac.And this one works!I didn't expect it to fit my 15 year old vac, but as it says on the package: "Fits all Shop Vacs."It fits perfectly, and there is zero concern about it slipping off.

It's easy to clean (outside, though - flying dust!) and my vac's suction is much better than it had been with the old filters.Small joys can be best!

5-0 out of 5 stars rare find

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Value, but I want more
This is a pretty good shop vac. For its price, it's a great value. However, given the choice, I might have gotten a more powerful model (~3hp) with more accessories.

The floor attachment works well for liquid, but is mediocre for dry pickup (with or without the squeegee). The hose is of decent length, but could be about 2 feet longer. It's a bit too short to reach a ceiling or to reach the passenger side of a car from the driver side.
I generally use this with my Bosch Miter Saw 3912. It's strong enough to pick up at least 75% of the saw dust, but is small enough to run the saw and vacuum on a 20 amp circuit. Anything larger would definitely blow the circuit.

    Pros:
    * Fairly stable. Tips over occasionally, but not a big problem.
    * Decent power (for the price).
    * Compact and light weight.
    * Standard size hose so common accessories work with it (even from my Hoover).

    Cons:
    * A little on the weak side.
    * No tool, hose, or cord storage on the vacuum.
    * Few accessories.
    * Small wheels get caught on debris easily (and then can tip over).

If you have an old vacuum cleaner you're ready to toss, save the tools and use it for this shop-vac. If you can live with 1.5hp, get this vacuum. If you think you might need more, get a more expensive vac (and get some extras while you're at it).

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the size.
This small size shop vac works well, but is prone to tip over. I didn't like the fact that you had to modify the filter if you want to clean up wet or dry items. It also seemed to get clogged on some
items which I tried vaccuuming - I think I tried to use the product
    beyond what was intended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice little machine
We have had this product since Christmas 2001 and have used it to clean our fireplace, vacuum our van, soak up water in a flooded bathroom, and clean up after sawing wood in the garage. It is light and easy to maneuver but with plenty of power for around the house jobs.

Assembly is simple and clean up is a snap. The filter will get full of ash if you use it for your fireplace but a quick rinsing will alleviate that problem. ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars I love my R2D2 look-a-like
I have had mine for quite some time and love it.My Mom kept breaking her usual "household" cleaners and I suggested this one.I bought it on Amazon and gave it to her.She just adores her little cleaner. She is 85 years old and it is light enough for her to pull/carry around, but tough enough to pick up excessive dog hair, etc.She is very impressed with it.This little guy has yet another fan!

3-0 out of 5 stars Quiet but too small
I have been through several shop vac's in my carpentry business and this one is just too small for picking up anything but dust. The 1.5" hose is a bad idea. Most things on the jobsite or in the shop are bigger than 1.5" so things constantly get stuck in the hose/attachment area and the inlet/hose area.Splurge for any of the shop vac's with the 2.5" hoses and you will be much happier when you don't have to take the hose off the machine every 2 minutes to clear a jamb.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value for A Great Price - Work Horse
This is a fantastic little vacuum that really SUCKS!!! Very powerful and relativity quiet for the amount of power. This model is great for any cleaning jobs that come around, and really handles the saw dust like a pro. This is the second "All Around" I have purchased, the first is the 7.0amp model, a little smaller and a little quieter... but still powerful for it's size like this model. I have never written a review on Amazon.com because I have never came across a product that really deserved over-whelming praise. This vacuum is a sure fire winner! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars does the job, but odd flaws and room for improvement
Having one of these around saved me when my basement flooded recently - it sucked up the first gazillion gallons of water with no problems, and I was totally impressed with its capacity and power. It's got a nice squeegee attachment that really gets the last drops off the floor, and the other assorted nozzles should cover most day-to-day needs.

The dry "suck" is good too - basically a brute force vacuum that'll gobble everything in its path (beware - it'll pick up stuff you'd never see your regular vacuum get). That's what this was originally about: attach it to a router or a sander, and save yourself dust and woodchips flying everywhere. The simple filter/bag system works fine, and converting from wet to dry and back is a cinch.

Couple of problems with the shop vac design: it's top heavy, with a big heavy motor assembly sitting above a flimsy plastic bin. Since the hose you pull to get it to move is attached up top, you'll find yourself tipping the whole thing over time and again. That's a real pain since it causes all the dust inside the bin to get blown out the exhaust. Other problem is the wheels: they're too flimsy and attach poorly - screws would've gone a long way to stabilizing the vac. Also, when sucking up lots of water, you'll soon get annowyed with having to disassemble the thing entirely to empty it - hose must come off, engine clamped off the top before you can tip the contents out of the bin, which is no mean feat when it's filled with 6 gallons of water. Oh, and pulling the vac by the hose when it's full of water is not a good idea - the vac won't budge, and instead you risk tearing the hose off, or even worse, tearing the hose in half. Finally, a longer power cord would be nice - the four feet or so provided doesn't go far.

It would have been nice if you could attach the hose to the exhaust and use it as a powerful blower, but that's not possible. It would also have been nice if you could attach an additional hose at the bottom when using it as a wet vac - essentially that would've allowed it to function as a mobile emergency pump.

Still a great deal by any standard; every home really should have one.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Shop-Vac 6 Horse
For an inexpensive shop vac, this does the trick, the hose is very flexible and does not pull out of the canister as in my experience the Sears model does.Light and easliy pulled, buy it and you will not be dissappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good vac for light duty.
This vacuum works fairly well for lighter duty use, but don't expect to suck up large rusty nails or similar nasty jobs with it.The horsepower is only adequate for smaller jobs, and the smaller dhose iameter (1.25") is a limiting factor. On the plus side, it's a great compact size that doesn't take up too much room in my shop, and is easy to carry around the house.I wish it came with more attachements like a crevice tool... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good quality hose - easy to shorten
Hose is fine.I bought it to connect to my dust collection system above my work bench. The flexibility for my purpose is ideal. The hose that I purhased from Home Depot was too stiff. One unexpected bonus. The hose connectors are easily removed from the hose itself. This means that it is easy to shorten the hose to the perfect length.

4-0 out of 5 stars Same high quality Shop-Vac hose as original
This hose is a duplicate of the 2.5 hose that comes with all the Shop-Vac fullsize vacuums. My original has been durable over several years of use. Shop-Vac has a patented hose locking system that makes it head & shoulders better than some other brands where the hose is always pulling away from the vacuum. It also keeps the hose from kinking up by being free moving. I've used Shop-Vac part # 906-86-00 2.5" Hose Coupling (For Coupling 2.5" hoses) to double the length of hose for my Shop-Vac 931-16-11. You should have no trouble with the extra hose length usage with a 4 hp vac or higher.
This is a medium weight vac hose for a decent price. There are a few heavier duty hose products (Mr Hose) out there, but for general use the Shop-Vac product works great! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Adapter only goes one way
Contrary to what other reviewers may say this will not allow you to connect a 1.5" Shop vac hose to a nominal 2.5" outlet found onapower tool. This is because the 2.5" end is the same diameter as the outlet on the power tool and so will not slide into the outlet!
I wish that Dry Vac made such an adapter but I rigged up an adapter from CPVC plumbing parts and, what else, Duct Tape!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works well!
The idea is pretty simple - 2.5 inches down to 1.25 inches. You absolutely need this to useShop-Vac 801-89-33 Micro Cleaning Kit. This fits snugly on the end of the hose that came with my Shop-Vac and the micro cleaning kit parts fit snugly into the small end. No annoying falling apart. You can also use this to attach a 1.25 inch hose to the dust port on quite a few power tools. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helps Clean Itsy Bitsy Crevices and Crannies
To use this you need Shop-Vac 906-85-00 2.5" to 1.25" Conversion Unit. Imagine the suction of your Shop-Vac pulling through the tip the size of a pencil! That gives you an idea of the cleaning ability you can get with this add on kit. We had broken glass from a shattered windshield of our van - in the heater ducts, the recessed speaker enclosures, EVERYWHERE! We usedthe micro kit in conjunction with our regular size Shop Vac and were able to getall of the glass from these hard to reach places. You can regulate the suction by how close or far away you hold it from the item to be cleaned. Extraordinarily functional for all kinds of needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most useful tools I own (and I own a lot!)
My wife got me a micro cleaning set for Christmas two years ago.Since then, I've found it is one of the handiest tools in my shop.Simply put, it makes my shop vac much more useful.I can get into tight places and concentrate the suction power of my vac in a way that I couldn't possibly do otherwise. Before changing the spark plugs in my truck, I used the micro cleaning tools to suck out all the dirt and debris around the old plugs, which otherwise would have fallen into to the engine.I've used it to clean out tools and electronics equipment, and I have found it works great for doing a thorough cleaning of my car's interior.I've even used it to clean all the gunk out my chainsaws!I've been so happy with it that my wife is giving kits to her father and two brother-in-laws for Christmas this year. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Shopvac 905-85-1 Foam Filter Sleeves
These are so much easier to clean up than the combination filter (foam / paper) that are supposedly usable for wet and dry pick up. I used my ShopVac to empty a algae clogged man made pond earlier this season. The algae was simple and fast to rinse out of the foam filter sleeve. It would have been a major task with the other filter. The Shopvac 905-85-1 Foam Filter Sleeves are less expensive than the other filters. When they get too gross or filthy, just toss and replace it.

I think these foam filters are the better choice for wet pick up uses and I'm happy with this purchase.

This filter works completely awesome and filters drywall dust, fireplace ash, and just about anything else bigger than .3 microns (hospital grade filtration rating even filters viruses).
