5-0 out of 5 stars stanley tools
Stanley tools will always be held in high regard. If you look after this equipment it give good service for years.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid tool with a few rough edges
This is a solidly built block plane that will give you years of service once you spend a little time and tune it up right.Nearly every plane made requires some fine adjustment out of the box so that should not be considered a negative when purchasing this item.

The cap iron may need a little lapping at the front bottom to fit smoothly against the plane iron. The blade comes with a serviceable factory edge but I honed mine nonetheless.Check the blade for flatness and lap the back if necessary. The bottom of the plane should be checked for flat and the sides for square before you commit to using this on your finer projects.

Again, most planes need this kind of tuneup as they come out of the box.The only fault I have with this plane is that the rear adjustment screw has a bit too much free play (a sixteenth of an inch) between the adjustment screw collar and the blade adjustment.I fixed that by disassembling the mechanism and fitting a brass shim around it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Plane insane if you don't have one!
I held off buying a plane for a long time. How foolish! This little plane has saved me lots of sandpaper, and it's really fun to use. I shaved the high spots off of some old drawers that I had to install some slides on, and took some layers of paint off the edges of some old cabinet doors. The old paint was really tough to get off the bottom of the plane, since I didn't have any solvent. I finally tried spraying a little carburetor cleaner on it and it came off pretty easily.

If you haven't used a plane before, this is a good one to start with. It takes a bit of practice to adjust it properly, but it's easy to tell when you get it right. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Read the instructions
Been using it for about 6 months. When I first got it I tore off the cardboard holder without reading the directions for changing the blades and had the same problems as many have posted. Once I found out how to use it, it works great every time. Blade changes are easy and reversing the blade is extrememly quick and simple. The blade always retracts completely. If you buy it, read the instructions!

5-0 out of 5 stars READ ME Eric Pruss... it is me and you
Eric and I have the same idea. The knife is great, hands down best I've ever used. Ok so you cant change the blade in 5 seconds, but I can in well under a minute while on the cell phone. So all you guys who are construction workers who cant work a utility knife I really feel sorry for you and your companys. In order to have the blade all the way down so you do not cut yourself press the yellow button and push the new blade down until the second rivet catches. Also the knife is very comfortable, can hold up to like 8 blades for storage and fits in knife sheaths great even with its 'L' shape. One minus is the string cutter, pretty much worthless.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but if you pay attention, it is well worth it.
I have had this knife for about three years now and use it constantly... A boss I had a couple years ago saw me changing a blade one day and wanted t osee it... I showed it to him and he liked it so much, he went and bought 3 or 4 for the shop. ALL of them worked PRECISELY the same as mine. It's so perfectly simple to change blades, it's downright silly, BUT... there is a catch...

This tool has one GLARING flaw... It's simply not immediately obvious how to PROPERLY operate it to change blades. However, I have it down pat, so follow along and learn...

To remove a blade, it takes three steps...

    1) Push the slider button down and forward ALL the way to the front until it stops (three position stops)...

    2) Now, PRESS the slider button down and press forward... it will click and stay down.

    3) FIRMLY press on the yellow release button with your thumb and grasp the blade and withdraw it...

    To insert a new blade...

    1) PRESS AND HOLD the yellow button and grasping blade with thumb and forefinger of opposite hand, insert blade into tool and push all the way back until it stop moving (there should be little or no resistance.

    2) RETRACT the blade normally.

    Notes:

    1) If you try to insert a blade WITHOUT PRESSING AND HOLDING THE YELLOW BUTTON, the blade will pop the lock into place and the blade will not fit into the tool.

    2) If when the blade is inserted and the slider is all the way back, if the blade sticks out any at all, then the blade is NOT installed correctly. Follow the steps to remove the blade and try inserting it again, and BE SUER to push it all the way back before releasing the yellow button. If you do this properly, you will have NO problems.

Having used a number of these knives, I assure EVERYONE, if you do these steps PRECISELY as described, this knife works perfectly every time!!! It really is JUST THAT SIMPLE! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great set as long as it's dry!
I like the set and my only criticism is that they rust very easily, at least in a boat environment. Before I put them on my boat they were just fine. Less than 6 months onboard and they are all rusty.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Cool Set
This is a pretty cool set, and I've had pretty good luck with most of the newer generation of Stanley Fat Max hand tools -- which I must admit I originally began using because I like the name...Anyhow, the only possible criticism would be that there are several distinctly similar pieces in this screwdriver collection -- too similar. They might have stuck a few square-headed, Torx or specialty drivers in, rather than having two or three spade or phillips head drivers which are within micrometers of the same size.Overall, a good value for the money, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great set, although a little expensive for casual use
These screwdrivers are as good as screwdrivers get, period. The big, three sided handles are easy to grip, and they're made out some kind of hard, tough, rubbery stuff that won't slip in sweaty hands. You can really crank out the torque with these things.Three of the largest flat bladed ones have bolsters right below the handles where you can also use a wrench to get even more torque. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because I thought they were a little expensive for casual use around the house, but if you've got a job where you use screwdrivers alot they're worth the money. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work well as a stapler.
I bought this 2-in-1 for convenience (it's a 2-in1!) and because of a very good past history with other Stanley-Bostitch tools. I was sorely disappointed. I tried to use this to staple 1/4" underlayment, but encountered numerous jams, misfeeds and situations where one of the two legs of the stapler would not sink. All-in-all, of the 200 staples I tried to sink, I had 30+ 'mis-fires'; or ~16%. I tried varrying the pressure between 80-110 psig (even though the tool is clearly marked do not exceed 100 psig) but the problem never got better. Every 5th or 6th staple would be a problem. Clearly, this is not good. I was left with no other option but to return it (and used my neighbor's Porter Cable to finish the job). I've never had a problem with my brad-only tool Bostitch, so either I got a bad one or this is a bad design. I can't recommend this item.

4-0 out of 5 stars Light weight dual purpose
I use this mostly for stapling up cedar shingles and the only problem I have with it is you have to pull the trigger every time.I understand this is considered a finish nailer but having an option would be nice, especially in a situation like mine where accurancy is much less important than speed.

The plastic nose guard didn't last long on mine for siding work, but when I'm doing finish work I always get it out.The arrows are very accurate in helping show the nail/staple position.

Bositch now makes an even lighter model but that one is for staples only.Having the ability to do staples and brads is why I keep getting this one.Plus the weight difference doesn't really matter to me because this on is already so light I don't notice the weight.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth a dime!!
I'm a woodworker ,I bought this tool thinking a dual use tool would be more practical. Was I wrong!I've had this tool about 2 months and used it to drive 3 18 gauge nails ,it promptly jambed up and wouldn't shoot another nail. It will shoot staples very well, but due to the sloppy slot the nails slide in, they become jambed right away. What lousey workmanship .
I have a 16 Ga. Porter Cable nailer that is indestructable.I've had it 5 yrs.and use it constantly and have had no problems with it. This Bostitch tool is totally worthless . I would recomend it for the junk pile ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible plane...
this is really not even a plane; it works more like a gouge and scaper. If you plan to use it on wood, don't! Don't make the same mistake I did. All I got was gouges all over my board. The ergonomics of this unit is just horrid. Your hand will get tired after a few strokes. Buy a real planer if you want to work on wood.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does what I want it to...
I've had a couple of these for quite a few years. I mainly use them for putting contours on jewelry box lids. I start in the middle of the lid, going with the grain, and dig deeper as I get to the edge, then "lip" it up a little. This little plane allows me to adjust the flare of the cut as I go along, makes a more random looking contour. Trying to do this with a regular handplane takes twice the work because you can't make those flare turns in the middle of the cut. Hope that made sense to the reader. Guess ya gotta be there. At any rate this is a great little tool, for not a lot of money. I have quite a few hand planes, and use them all the time. This is more of a carving tool for me than a plane. You can get very nice results with just a little practice. Highly recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars It works well within its limitations!
I have owned this little "pocket plane" for a few years now, using it on both drywall and wood.I can say that is does indeed work wonders on drywall - it cuts agressively so you can quickly shape the drywall as you need it.With wood however, it is another story. Here the main benefit of this thing - its small size -is also its main drawback.Your hand gets tired pretty quickly if you try to remove much wood with this tool, because it is a one handed operation.I have no complaints about its ability to cut and remove wood, just that what you ask of it is very limited by its small size.

I recommend this tool to anyone who will use it on drywall at a jobsite, otherwise pay the few dollars more for the two handed model! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs a lot...
I was several hundred miles from home and my shop, helping a friend with a kitchen remodel. Got to a point in the cabinet portion when we really needed a rabbit plane badly. He ran down to the local hardware store and this one was all that they had. I have several older stanley planes and they are good tools. This one disappointed me quite a bit, as it is not up to the Stanley standards I have seen and used in the past. It's pretty roughly made, the adjustments are kind of a joke and the blade doesn't hold a very good edge. We finally got it to work and finished the cabinet doors, but halfway thru I was ready to drive home and get my Lee Valley/Veritas bullnose rabbit plane.
I gave it 3 stars because it will work if you mess with it enough, and it is inexpensive. I think if someone bought it as their first one, they would probably never want to use one again. Save your money and buy a good one from Lee Valley or one of the other quality makers. Can't recommend this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your time and effort
... It was so out of alinement and out of plane that any amount of tuning couldn't salvage it...

1-0 out of 5 stars junk
first of all, besides the point that it's not worth a penny, it can't be more than $5 if you ask me. quality is aweful. the blade doesn't align properly, the top and the botton don't align. the botton of the plane (which should be _plane_) isn't straight. unfortunately there's not much choice, so i have to fix what i have already or make my own. i hear stanly 92 is good, i would try that if i can find one. but definetely not this one. ... These tools are made in Taiwan, and are ok, but not great.I did not sent them back, but I was not overjoyed with their quality.I also ordered the Stanley 151 piece tool set, which is made in China. The 1/4 ratchet did not work at all, and the rest of the set looked much lower in quality than the Taiwan set.I sent it back.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bits missing.
The drill was supposed to come with four drill bits, but only came with two. It looked as if the tool had been rewrapped. The drill came from another company and took about four weeks for delivery. I will not order another tool if I know it is coming from this other company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal addition to the tool box
I have had a yankee push drill for a lot of years. I find the drill one of the handiest tools in my tool box. I can drill into most wood or composit items with the control that I need or choose without fear of damaging or spliting the item. This drill has been used for just about every thing, but this drill is ideal for curtain rods with their small screws or nails. This pushdrill is a replacement for one that I lost. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have For Floor Install
Seems rugged and works great. It takes a short while to get use the swing. You want to hit it pretty hard to force the boards together without splitting the toe.
You can build your floor with a nice finish nailer, but the cleat is much sturdier.
Senco cleats from your local hardware works great. You don't need to wait two weeks for the Bostitch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool for the Money
I had the opportunity to use both this tool and the Porta Nailer manual floor nailer during a recent job. Both tools were new, both were solidly constructed and of good quality. The Bostich proved far superior to the Porta Nailer due primarily to the ratcheting feature on the Porta Nailer. This does not fuction well and is a poor design. The Porta nailer would leave cleats half driven or fail to release the cleat from the nailer after the cleat was fully driven. On the Porta Nailer side of the job we spent alot of time on our knees with a nail set trying to set cleats. We were forced to pull up a few planks becasue the cleats could not be set or removed. Eventually it was faster to just use the Bostich than waste man hours with the Porta Nailer. POSTSCRIPT _ It's a great value for the money - over ten big jobs without a hitch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best hammer stapler yet
This stapler works great.Your fingers don't get pinched like other hammer staplers. When you use the correct staplers (Power Crown), the stapler doesn't jam. This is the best hammer stapler I've owned.

    1-0 out of 5 stars bostitch [messed]up
I've been in construction for 15 years now and have used the "old" bostitch H-2B stapler for years and loved it.Last summer I went to order a couple more and found out they were discontinued; I checked everywhere ; even @ a repair facility that has the parts to rebuild them; no one has any of them left.I called Bostitch directly and they said the "new" one takes the same staples ; WRONG so I bought the grand slammer and I hate it ; the staples are hard to keep in the rail while closing the ram and they jam as easily as the "cheap" arrow t-50's did; I didn't mind spending $100.00 for a stapler I could rely on and one that was easy to replace or clean the parts; I WISH they would begin making the H2B again PLEASE! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars drywall stripper
I bought this item with the idea of saving time it worked great until I dropped it, which was about three hours into the day, the cheaply made star wheels that score the paper bent over now as you can imagine it leaves a wavy line instead of a nice straight one, I am very disapointed with the quality of this product and would not buy another one

1-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, bad execution
I was really looking forward to getting this tool and saving some time.It sorely disappointed me.It was very hard to adjust to the right depth of cut, and instead of using a razor to cut the paper, it uses a pair ofvery cheap star wheels to perforate. Even when finally set to the rightdepth of cut, the wheels wobbled all over the place, leaving a wavy cut. It seems like a good idea, but I guess I'll have to make my own to get itto work right.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good Idea that needs refinement
The Goldblatt Drywall Stripper has the right idea, however; it is difficult to adjust and does an incomplete job in cutting. When adjusted tightly,it snags the paper of the drywall and when to loose, provides only a line forcutting with a knife. The cutting wheels are light weight and are easilybent when adjusting the width or when accidently dropped. Refinement in theadjustment features and heavier cutting wheels would greatly improve theusefulness of this product. ... Read more

My new stanley fatmax is advertised to stand out to 11 feet.
Ha HA mine may make it to 9 feet 6 inches.and Stanley won't even respond to my e-mails.
Is this the way to treat a long time custmor? I think not

3-0 out of 5 stars Now.......my secondary tape
I've gone thru three in one year. I'm a builder so that is slightly above average for my use. But I do keep buying them. My major gripe is that none of them really stay hooked very well when moving. Also they will slice through your finger in a flash if you're used to finger braking.(too fast retract) It is also tempermental in retracting if used past 15ft. I've seen 'em live & die from second floor to concrete. BUT....it does have a fantastic standout. Good, but buy it on sale.

2-0 out of 5 stars Replacement Blades for Fat Max Tapes
I really liked the Fat Max 30' tape. However, Stanley does not make replacement blades for it.My Fat Max is a little less than a year old and has developed a hole at about the 11 foot point.Because no replacement blades are available, the cost forreplacing it with a new one is too high.Too bad Stanley doesn't stand behind the fat max with replacement blades like they do with some of their other less sturdy tapes. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the price
The handles are comprised of the typical abuse hungry polymer plastic resin.I bought this set and threw one to each of the guys on my framing crew.We abuse these things. They are used to cut nails, pry walls, as screwdrivers and sometimes actually used as chisels should be.Fortunately the steel is easilly sharpened. 1 minute on the belt sander to remove the deep nicks and then about 5 minutes on the sharpening stones and we are sharp for another 2 weeks. If you want fine chisels for craftsmanship go buy a set of Marples or 2 Cherries...if you want a set to abuse, drop, clean your nails, pull slivers, play mumbley peg, pry walls, open paint cans, scredriver, pry up backing...etc etc etc. Then get these....and share !

5-0 out of 5 stars Stanley Fat Max 3PC Chisel Set
I found the quality of these chisels to be more than satisfactory for my purposes. They come in a hard case which makes them very convenient to store and take to job sites. Each chisel has a plastic cover for the tip, and these are locked in place by the hardcase so they don't get lost.

The handles are made of some kind of polymer which seems VERY rugged. The handles have a metal cap embedded in the handle for a striking surface. The handles are also made of a non-slip material, and are shaped so the are very comfortable to use.

As is to be expected, I had to sharpen them to put a finished edge on each chisel, and I have not used them enought yet to comment on how well they hold their edge.

For the price and my uses, I find these to be a very good value. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Popular among house framers, Bostitch's framing stick nailer offers solid, no-fuss, reliable performance. With its tough aluminum housing and extruded aluminum magazine, this nailer is a sturdy piece of equipment, designed to hold up to falls and the inevitable beating tools take on a framing crew. The nosepiece's teeth aggressively grip lumber for toe-nailing. The adjustable depth control makes it easy to adjust the countersink with the gun, instead of the compressor. The nailer's deflector conveniently directs exhaust away from the user. We were impressed with how solid this Bostitch unit feels--it definitely has the burliness of an industrial-strength tool. But with its burly nature comes a bit of extra weight--always something to consider. The tool weighs just over 8 pounds empty, however, so some arm fatigue is probably inevitable. But the nailer's rubber grips are comfortable to hold, and the balance is good. This model shoots 2- to 3-1/2-inch, 28-degree, wire-weld-collated, clipped-head nails, and will hold a strip of 75. The nailer is available in contact or sequential trip. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars from a 16 year old
I purchased this nailer about 2 years ago for my father, Ive used many times, until Igot used to it I did change the trigger. The bump trigger is great once you've practiced with this thing. Its very light and can drive almost anything. But, only use stanley nails. I used another brand from the local lumber yard and they did not fit and almost broke the nailer.
I would rocommend this nailer for any task dealing with construction or remodel. However Id recommend a coil framing nailer for sheeting, stick nailers dont hold enough nails for sheeting work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fail Safe
I am a framing contractor in the northeast. I have been using Bostitch N80 nail guns for the last 15 years. From 90 degree temps in the summer to zero degrees in the winter, they always work. I have a total of 22 Bostitch guns, some being as old as 15 years. The framing nailers I get at least 5 years of day after day service. The most common break down is either lack of oil or breakage from the guns being dropped. (they have to really be dropped from high up onto a hard surface such as a concrete slab) All of the production framers in this area use Bostitch, the best of the best. Thank you Stanley for making a product that enables us contractors to make our living with a minimum amount of headaches.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just a Gimmick
Stanley has introduced a number of FatMax tools in the last few years.Frankly, I think some of the FatMax tools are just marketing gimmicks, but the screwdrivers are some of the best I've ever used. What makes these screwdrivers special is the tri-lobe grip (FatMax grip) which makes them easier to grip and easier to apply torque. You can buy cheaper screwdrivers at your local hardware store and they are likely to have simple round or square handles.I have many of these ... screw drivers which I now use for opening paint cans. The FatMax screwdrivers are so much more comfortable that I will search my shop for one before I'll resort to using a cheapy screwdriver. The tri-lobe handle design has been in the Stanley product line for over 15 years and I would say that it is as important an innovation as some of the stuff Stanley did with hand planes over a hundred years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars The First set of Screwdrivers I've ever bought
Previous to buying the Stanley 6pc. FatMax Screwdriver Set I had used everything from a coin (quarters were a favorite) to a nail file or a knife for my screwdriving needs.Once in a while I'd buy a cheap supermarket screwdriver which survived only one or two uses before it self-destructed.Well those days are over. Now I can hold my head high when someone asks to borrow a screwdriver or when I have to use one in my home for I know that this new set will not disentegrate after a couple of uses.I've used most of the six in this set and not only have they NOT self-destructed but they exhibit a glossy, high-tech look what with the chubby black handles and black tips. This is a great set for anyone who has spent a lot of money over the years on cheap screwdrivers and/or is tired of breaking off the tips of their expensive Henkel knives. This set would make a great Christmas gift for the tool-impaired man or woman in your life.
