shop vac
I bought this thinking yes it is expensive but appears built to last. I also thought for the money it should suck the paint right off the wall when I start it up. To my surprise I found out it can not suck up a lousy screw on the floor. It is very quiet and filter is great. It is a VERY large unit. All I know is my craftsman would out suck this machine. I am planning on sending this unit back unless Dewalt tells me there is something wrong with it?? In the long run I think you are better off going to Lowes or Depot and getting a $ unit.

Overall a good product
I'm a big fan of DeWalt products and expected a high quality product. For the most part I was not disappointed. The vacuum's usefulness is limited without the $100 accessory package. Dewalt should adjust the price andinclude the "accessories" as part of the base product. Theaccessories are top-notch and turn this into a highly useable tool.Although the hose is two inches in diameter, all the accessories are 1.5inches. This results in frequent clogs when cleaning up larger pieces ofdebris. I've found myself having to initially pick out the larger pieces byhand before cleaning up with the vac. I also wasn't impressed with thepower. Without having done any scientific measurements, it appear my old$99 craftsman vac can out clean the dewalt. When it comes to noise levels,their claims are accurate. This isa very quite machine. I no longer haveto worry about waking the kids when cleaning up after they've gone tosleep. It's also a big machine and is clumsy to move up and down stairs,however the caster system is superior and makes moving it around on a flatsurface a breeze. It also is a very stable machine, and is all butimpossible to tip over. My old craftsman had difficulty staying upright bycomparison.

Simply put, DeWalt's 15-gallon wet/dry vacuum is a high-performance unit. Its capacity is plenty for most tasks, and the heavy-duty rear wheels make this a solid, very mobile addition to any shop or job site. The two-stage, fan-cooled motor is designed to last. The dual-stage filter with Dacron prefilter is remarkably effective against drywall dust, capturing up to 99.8 percent. For such a large unit, we found the motor to be surprisingly quiet when in use. Tool Crib Catalog: 1.The product was shipped as promised within 4-6 business days. 2.The catalog mentions an accessory kit (DW7920) forthe vacuum but neither depicts nor describs the contents of thatkit.

DeWalt Vacuum DW792: 1.Runs very quiet.My old Craftsman vacuumwas very loud, even with hearing protectors on.This vacuum is no louderthan the Hoover my wife uses to clean the rest of the house.

2.Motorruns a lot cooler than the Craftsman.I have run the DeWalt continuouslyfor about an hour and the motor housing still feels cool.The Craftsman'scooling system was woefully inadequate for the size of the motor and wouldburn out if run continuously for very long. 3.Picks up debris very well.4.The dacron pre-filter is very easy to clean. 5.Lip inside tank makesit hard to completel;y empty the contents. 6.The swivel on the tank endof the hose is very good.A swivel on the attachment end of the hose wouldmake it even better.Due to the length and stiffness of the hose a swivelon the attachment end would make it easier to use with a dusting brush whencleaning off tools and project components. 7.I found that a 2 1/2"hose connector works perfectly to connect a 2 1/2" hose directly tothe tank.This was necessary as some of my tools only had a 2 1/2"port.This alternative was better than paying Tool Crib $89.99 for a setof tools they did not describe.

Not the last word in shop vacuums
Well made and relatively quiet, this vacuum offers real advantages over your typical Sears screamer. But the volume of air (and therefore of dirt) that it sucks up, and its comparatively thinner hose, render it lesseffective. The tools (which must be purchased separately) are clunky andnot well adapted to many kinds of cleanup. On the plus side, its welldesigned wheels and generous handle make it easy to move around and itsexhaust is nicely distributed to avoid blowing up a dust storm behind you.The hose is long enough to give the machine a good reach and it attachesfirmly enough to the body that you can pull the vacuum along after you.Taking into consideration the cost of the accessory set, this is priced alittle higher than its performance justifies.

Very quiet, and it grows on you!
I bought the DW792 in March, after I was standing by it for five minutes at a woodworking show without realizing that it was running!The vac really is very quiet, and the wheel/caster combo makes it easy to roll around (though the smaller from casters still catch on extension cords).Iwas a little skeptical of power at first - it just didn't seem to pull aseffectively as my old Craftsman 16 gallon "screamer".I've sincedecided that I may have subconsciously associated the quieter motor with alack of power - it's certainly sucked up everything I've thrown at it (drypickup only), and I've never noticed a decrease in performance while I'vebeen working.The dacron prefilter is a real benefit, as wood dust justslides right off - I haven't had to clean the main filter since I boughtthe unit, and I've used it a lot attached to my random orbit sander. Another feature I like is the bypass cooling for the motor - my last vacburned up when the filter got clogged with sanding dust, and I didn'tnotice until I smelled the smoke :(.It's a bit pricey, but so far I really like the performance.Guess you get what you pay for, eh? ...
