5-0 out of 5 stars best of the best
This saw is a wood cutting machine. The chain speed is over 60mph (5500fpm)! Twice the speed of the next fastest electric chainsaws on the market! (the other makita models) Most other manufacturers won't even tell you their chain speed, because this one beats them so bad. I bought it to carve wood with, and find that it actually cuts hard wood faster then soft wood - the harder the better (it can bog down in soft wood)!
The first one I bought off of Amazon came to me with shipping damage, but when I notified them, I had another one in 2 days, no additional charge, and they even paid the shipping to return the damaged one! EXCELLENT SERVICE! This unit cuts wood far better than most of the gas powered chainsaws I have tried.
There are only 2 things that could be considered downside: the anti-kick back guard on the nose of the bar is a pain...I'm a big boy now, and know how to use a chainsaw, so I ordered a replacement bar without this guard. The other thing is, with that tremendous chain speed, the wood chips come off the bar at 60mph, too, so be prepared to have this sawdust fly everywhere! I completed my first carving with this unit in record time, and then when I looked around, found myself and the entire inside of my garage covered in sawdust and wood chips! This tool is excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never going back to gas.
So much easier to use than gas powered saw. Less noise, no exhaust fumes, no pull cord, no choke, no trip to the gas station for fuel. For all the sawing you can do within range of an extension chord this saw is teriffic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Makita UC 3500 compared to older Makita chainsaw
This is the second Makita chainsaw I have owned ( the first I have had for 12 years). The uc 3500 has better balance and is ligher making it less tiring to use for long peroids of time. I use the saw mostly to cut firewood for my shopIt has less torque than the older saw but is more than adquate for most job. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful saw
I already owned a 55 Rancher and the Husqvarna arborist chain saws, when I purchased this saw. It is a very powerful saw. The de-compression feature does make starting easier. It is a high quality saw with significant improvements over earlier models. The chain/bar tension control is much easier to adjust on my 18" 55. The 359 has a new metal chain guard (for safety when a chain jumps off of the bar). The metal guard has one drawback. I had a chain jump and it severly chaffed the chain (metal on metal) resulting in a damaged and therefore lost chain. The older design (with plastic) was less damaging to chains (but probably not as safe). Still like all Husqvarna saws, a reliable and powerful tool. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The 16-inch Remington chain saw delivers several strong safety features. A low-kickback chain and reduced kickback guide bar reduce the chances of danger. The rear hand guard safely removes your operating hand from projectile chips, as does the front hand guard for the stabilizing handle. The 3-1/4-horsepower motor provides plenty of power for pruning and trimming. It also handles better under the duress of thick lumber (including heftier firewood) and smaller deck and lawn projects than its 12-inch counterpart, though we still wouldn't recommend using it on larger felling, which will stop up the blade and possibly do damage to the engine. The black plastic design offers little relief from the numbing effects of vibration, but, then again, the motor won't dish up anything you can't handle. Aside from the assembly, which poses a challenge even to the most seasoned chain saw operators, this is a good, basic, quality saw for light-duty lawn projects. Limited warranty. ... Read more

every time I use this saw the blade loosens and or loses the bolts have to spend lots of time hunting for them

5-0 out of 5 stars tough little saw
I bought this saw last year and have cut down fairly good size trees and trimmed a lot on my 1 acre lot. After 3 hurricanes I had to get a 350 Husky because some of the trees are just too big, and there is much to do.

But this little saw is still going and I use it a lot. Here are some tips that may prolong your electric saw's life:

1. Never run it continually for long periods so it does not get it real hot. It needs to have rest breaks.
2. After sawing for 10 or 15 seconds let up for 30 seconds or so.
3. Rotate the bar frequently and keep the oiler about 3/4 filled with motor oil__(manual recommends SAE 30W).
4. When rotating the bar, take off the chain drive sprocket and grease the needle bearing. (Be careful removing the sprocket so the needle bearing does not fall out).
5. Oily sawdust builds up very fast. Take off the chain cover and clean it out after every use, and re-adjust the chain. It only takes a few minutes.
6. Check your motor frequently to make sure it is not getting too hot.
7. Don't let the chain get too dull. Have it sharpened or replace it.
8. Above all....be safe. Don't cut with the tip.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Price -- Read the instructions before use!
A friend of mine gave me a bunch of wood with several logs.Sure, it's like getting the present of a lot of work cutting and splitting, but what the heck!I bought this Remington and it has already proven its worth.I've already cut some pretty sizable logs with it and can honestly say it is more than living up to expectations.I've seen a few negative reviews about this product, but can honestly say that the instruction book preps you for these.

So, what about the complaints:
** As long as you are not constantly cutting wet hardwood, this works great.I've cut a ton of logs, many different kinds and this is working great!
** No problems with a slipping chain! The instructions point out that a new chain will stretch as it is getting broken in -- and that you will need to tighten it several times after every few cuts until it gets worked in.
** Oil and leaks -- The book ahs a whole section on the way the oil feed system works.unfortunately, this is why it "leaks" when left unused.I left it overnight and it did in fact seep oil -- not a lot, but enough to be annoying.the book very clearly states that this is expected and that you should empty the oil when you're not using the saw.

So, why not 5 stars?
It's a great value -- but there is a definite reason to buy a better chain saw.An electric like this has obvious disadvantages -- having an extension cord a main one. Also, I really don't like having to drain the oil. In any case, a good purchase and it should meet most needs. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Remington electric chain saw
I purchased my Remington Chain Saw at Home Depot a month ago.It was great for removing the lower (ground) branches off a Spruce tree.I chose electric for the on-demand electric power as opposed to gas pull-start for indoor jobs and work in confined spaces.I completed two small backyard projects as well.

After three minor projects, the chain required sharpening. My Stihl 031 easily cuts through a cord or two before sharpening is needed.

The bar does not have a brake function like my two lawn mowers which makes this saw a disaster ready to happen.Users should exercise extreme caution! This saw is not child/teenager safe!

The automatic oiler is a continuous drip or should I say LEAKER! MFG suggests you drain all unused chain/bar oil after each use. This is inconvenient.Of course, I read the operating manual after I saturated the carpet in my Suburban with the seeping oil.

Remington appears to be another subsidary of Home Depot.Home Depot does not provide product support on this saw.If you do purchase one, buy on the internet and save yourself $30.00 less the S&H charges. You will probably get more knowledgeable customer service and part/warranty support as well.

I would not buy this saw again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars balance
I don't mean to be a spoilsport, but I think that the reviewer has unfairly maligned a good series of saws based one example.

The Husky 372 has a perfectly good reputation amongst thinners and loggers.Sure, it is a tad more chintz than the corresponding Stihl item, but the Husky is generally about $100 cheaper and one gets what one pays for in chainsaws and optics.

The 372 series is perfectly capable of being used as a high production frequent use machine.I personally know several cutters who continue to use Husqvarna items.

I suspect the previous reviewer either had a lemon, or that he/she had a dull saw, which is admittedly is worthless.

I have more than 1500 hours of actual run time operating Stihl 046's in western timber, and I would not hesitate to grab a 372 if the price were right and it were available.

this chain saw was no where near worth what i payed 4 it it worked and ran well butit realy strugled on just cuting a 26 inch tree down my stihl ms 310 had to finish the job cause the husky died half way throgh so in my mind it was not worth the cost, i payed 400 for my stihl ms 310 with a spar chain and that has been better so the only thing i can sy is to buy stihl heres a link to the site thankshttp://www.stihlusa.com/chainsaws/ ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Electric MotorIs Easy On Your Ears
I wasn't aware that Makita made chain saws until my nephew told me about the UC4000 he saw on Amazon. The motor is quieter and much lighter than gas powered models with the same torque and horsepower.I bought him one for his birthday and he loves it.When he opened the box, he said he was the only kid in the first grade to have one.He earns extra money doing yard work and pruning his neighbor's trees when they aren't home. What he likes best is not having to buy gas and oil, and looking for a place to store the containers.

5-0 out of 5 stars This was a perfect Christmas gift....
...for my sister. She practically begged all of us to buy her a chain saw this year. She's been obsessed with chain saws ever since she was a child, but never owned one before. I decided to make her dream a reality and buy this Makita chain saw for her.

There were tears of joy in her eyes when she unwrapped it. Before I knew it, she was out in the backyard sawing down stuff with it. She totally loves her Makita chain saw!

My sister's often sculpted things out of wood. She says she's going to use her new chain saw to sculpt me a wooden statue of Bob Denver to put on my front lawn. Turns out my present to my sister is going to result in a present for me. Wooo Hooo!

Judging from my sister's reaction to this Makita chain saw, I'd say that if you're ever going to buy a chain saw...mak(e)-it-a Makita chain saw!

5-0 out of 5 stars Electric not Gas!
It is hard to believe that an electric chainsaw can cut as fast as a gas chainsaw, but this chainsaw does just that.I have to use a gas chainsaw to ruff cut the logs when I am away from the house but I use an electric chainsaw when I am near home to cut the logs into stove sized pieces, so I don't have to be bothered with the fumes and noise of a gas chainsaw.I had been using a McCulloch 3.5hp electric chainsaw and it stopped cutting because a plastic drive gear stripped out. When I contacted Makita, I wanted to know if their chainsaw had any plastic gears in it, they assured me that it was all metal gears and ball bearings through out.The Makita is supposed to be the same horse power as the McCulloch that I had, but it cuts much faster.I have gone through two McCulloch chainsaws over the years. One with a bad commutatorand the other with a bad gear. After using the Makita, I wish I had bought the Makita first. ...
