    Editorial Review

Vornado's small (12-inch diameter), quiet fan is designed to provide big output. The 42-inch pedestal it sits on makes it possible to hide the unit behind furniture while still directing air circulation efficiently. As the manufacturer points out, this fan isn't just for cooling: proper air circulation can save money on winter heating bills as well as summer cooling bills by beating air stratification. The black plastic material has a matte surface and feels surprisingly sturdy and substantial. The cover removes easily for cleaning. --Richard Farr ... Read more

Powered by a rugged, industrial-grade, 312-watt motor, this 18-inch fanis great for cooling an office, garage, workroom, rec room, work site, warehouse, or any large space. It has three speeds, and its heavy-gauge aluminumstand permits you to tilt it through 360 degrees of rotation, meaning you canput it near a window or door to exhaust stale, hot air and draw in fresh, coolair, or set it on the floor to circulate cool air throughout a room. The blue,deep-pitch, teardrop-shaped aluminum blades whirl at a high velocity within asturdy chrome cage. There's a handle for carrying the fan from place to placeand a cord wrap for convenient storage. The fan comes fully assembled andcarries an exceptionally long 10-year warranty against defects. --FredBrack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Size of fan
This fan is advertised as a 20" fan. When I receiced it, the fan is clearly marked on the box as an 18" fan.Not only was it NOT the size advertised, but it is poorly packed and damaged enroute to me.

1-0 out of 5 stars DANGERGOUS FAN BLADES! DO NOT BUY!
I had bought one of these fans several years ago, thinking that Patton was one of the best fans around.Well, I learned that this is not the case anymore.I had another fan almost like this which only lasted 4 years with two repars to the motor.I thought I would try again with another fan.Well, upon using the fan during the second summer season of owning it, the blade broke near the shaft while the fan was running on high!I have never in my life seen a fan blade do this, and I was thankful that the blade didn't fly off of the shaft, through the grill, and injure me or someone else in the house at the time!A fan blade is turning fast, especially on the high speed, and this could have caused serious injury to someone, but luckily, no one was near the fan at the time! After that, I thought I would try to call Patton for another blade. They told me that the blades were out of stock and they weren't getting anymore in for a while. I decided to contact the store that I purchased the fan since I still had the receipt. They told me to bring it back and they would refund the money.Luckily they refunded me the full amount, but my advice to those who still like the Patton name - They are not the same anymore! Perhaps I got a fan that was from a bad lot of defective blades, but I wouldn't take a chance if I were you!I had two other Patton fans with a 14 inch blade where the motor went bad on them before two years, so I gave up with Patton altogether. My advise to the consumer - Stay away from Patton unless you like their name and buy from a store that has good return policies. Also, save your sales receipt!

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this fan unless..
Do not buy this fan unless you have some time to kill and a good set of tools, including a rubber mallet. I tried twice to get a fan not damaged in shipment. The shipping box is just too flimsy. After the second try I gave up, got out my tools, and spent about 30 minutes fixing all the damage. Once I got it to run without the fan blades hitting the fan guard or switch assembly I discovered the blade was way out of balance! This explains the noise and blade failures from the other reviews. I'll use it in the garage every once in a while when I work on the cars, but from now on I will read the reviews before I buy. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars So So
I got this fan to use in my bathroom which gets quite steamy. It does the job well, but what I don't like is the switch location. It's in back of the top of the circular part of the fan so it's awkward to get at.Whoever designed the location of the switch must have been totally not thinking. But, it does work, and it cools the room and helps with the steaming up.I just can't understand why the switch is in such an illogical spot.I do not recommend this fan because of that. ... Editorial Review

A smart alternative to space-hogging floor fans, the WindColumn tower fan from WindChaser combines quiet operation with a trim design. Equipped with a squirrel-cage fan blade, the unit is practically noise-free on its low and medium settings and comfortably quiet on high. The structure is energy-efficient as well as space-smart and comes with optional oscillation. The 3-hour shut-off timer is easy to fine-tune, thanks to its 10-minute intervals, and lets you drift off to sleep without having to leave your fan on all night. Other helpful details include vertically adjustable air louvers, a stable base, and a built-in carrying handle. WindChaser also includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quiet and Efficient
I have purchased 3, and this is the best one.It is quiet yet cools better than any other one I have. You have the choice to oscillate or not and you can direct the air flow with 2 separate deflection levers.
This tower fan is worth the price.

I've only had a fan for a few months now but it was easy to assemble (took me 5 minutes) and it does a good job and is not too noisy.

Tall, slim, and unobtrusive, this 45-watt fan cools a room without dominating it, using a high-performance centrifugal blade which is hidden from view inside the fan's gleaming, hard plastic housing. 3-0 out of 5 stars Quiet at first, but loud after one year
I have the HT30RC verstion of this fan, which is the same thing, but with a remote control. When I first got the fan, it was very quiet and worked well in my bedroom. However, after only having the fan for one year, the motor starts making this knocking noise every time the fan is on for longer then 30 minutes or so... The noise is loud enough to disturb my sleep.
Further, I tried looking up the fan on Holmes website, but they've already pulled all support for the fan. It's like it never existed.
Your mileage may vary, but I feel I deserved to use the fan for longer than a year before started acting up, especially considering the price I paid for it.

***Update*** Two days after writing this article, I tried taking the fan apart to fix it. A little WD-40 at the motor spindle and everything is as good as new. This would probably raise my rating to a four... I think Holmes should at least still list the fan on their website!

4-0 out of 5 stars I just purchased this fan....
I just purchased this fan.My main reason was the Holmes name and the fact it took up little space. It's hard to find a standing fan that doesn't have a large round base.

Anyway, I like the fan so far...I am running it on high to get enough power out of it.But, it's pretty quiet and safe from little kid fingers which is a big plus.

3-0 out of 5 stars Searching for my 3rd "Tower Fan" - replacement...
OK - I am on the hunt to replace my 2nd tower fan which has just died, like it's predecessor. The first tower fan I purchased was the costly "Bionaire", w/remote etc... not on sale, I paid about $85.This Bionaire fan just stopped one day, it was only 6 months old.The warranty, (15 years - wow!) is way more trouble than it's worth and entails further layout of cash - so it's basically "useless".

Second Tower Fan I bought for $39 - made by "Seville", & not as many features but that's ok since I didn't use them on the previous model anyway. This fan lasted 1.5 years, and at least gave me a warning by stopping one day, but starting up again a minute later, this was about two weeks before blowing it's final breeze. In comparison to the first based on the cost to life ratio, this fan was much better, but neither lived as long as expected...

Now I will try this fan and see how long it lasts - but it appears these tower fans generally don't have a long "life expectancy".Given that, don't spend too much on one of these - since they are all made in china and PROBABLY by the same company anyway. ... Read more

With its shiny blades and hub and its black body, this portable fan is as retro-hot as it is room-cooling. The blades' striking bullet-nose hub is based on a 1934 Art Deco design, the 72-watt motor's cooling vents resemble an old-time microphone's, and the base is sculpted into a beautiful form. Contemporary features include deep-pitch, quiet blades three-speed control, oscillation control, tilt adjustment, and a built-in handle for moving from room to room. 2-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it IS beautifully flawed.
Sure it's pretty, but it's also pretty useless.Like Hobbs (another reviewer) noted, the knob to hold the fan at a particular angle DOESN'T hold.So it blows air where IT wants, not where I want.Obviously, this is a problematic product.I should have known better, given how many "factory reconditioned" ones I have seen available.Gee, wonder why the factory has so many available to recondition.Dumb me for buying it.Do yourself a favor and find a real vintage fan at a thrift store.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, not great..
Pros: moves a lot of air, cool retro look is appealing, nice low frequency sound for those that like the white noise of a fan while they sleep, modestly priced for a product with a lot of steel content.

Cons: cheap plastic switch that feels destined to break before long, a little difficult to clean but this isn't much different from every other fan I've owned. One of the two I own has something loose in the motor housing that results in a metal to metal bell tone when it's oscillating. Probably something I can fix but at only about three months old, something I shouldn't have to deal with.

Bottom line: a good fan with a great look but a little pricey relative to comparable plastic fans (so is everything with high steel content lately). Long term reliability is a question mark. If all you want is a fan to move some air, this isn't the fan for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It, Love It, Love, It!
This fan approaches air-conditioning in its cooling capacity in my eyes, and I'm known as the one who's always turning the temperature towards "Arctic" on our thermostat! It's sound lulls me to sleep with memories of sleeping under an enormous GE oscillating floor fan made of steel back in the 1960's before air-conditioning was everywhere. And on top of it all, it's beautiful. I own two and am thinking of buying a third for yet another room in my house. I wouldn't live in Georgia without it. ... Read more

Powered by a quiet 96-watt motor, this 16-inch stand fan tilts, oscillates smoothly and widely, and adjusts to three speed settings. Atelescoping pole permits you to set the fan at any height between 33 and 45inches, and a twist of a knob locks the fan in place. With the pole and baseclad in shiny chrome and a black plastic ring encircling the grill, the fan hasa contemporary look, though with a bow to the chrome-happy '50s. 5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful, not too noisy, and looks great.
I was a bit concerned reading some of the comments below, but I did NOT want an ugly plastic stand fan, so I took the chance for $38.I'm glad I did.I love this fan. It's powerful, yet quieter than some. The highest setting is a bit loud if you're watching TV, but the middle setting is not bothersome and adequately cools a 25 x 20 room. For sleeping, Low is the best bet, provides plenty of power for all but the largest bedrooms. And the fan looks great; you won't feel the urge to get it out of your sight when not in use.

Assembly was very easy, about 5 minutes.I had no problem attaching the front and back screens and locking them into place with the two attached plastic clips. It's been carried up and down stairs and run into by a dog, and its still solidly attached!I don't understand the problems noted by other reviewers; the only thing I can think of is that perhaps in shipping there was some damage or stacking on the carton,(amazon ships in mfrs. display box, not packed in a corrugated shipping box) and that the screens were no longer perfectly matching circles and thus would not lock into place.

Bottom line, there is nothing out there that works as well and looks this good for even twice the price.I'm going to buy another before they're gone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing
The fan was 2 weeks old and suddenly died. The motor burnt out. What a dissapointment!

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm happy, its a good fan
I just got the fan and was able to install it in 20 minutes without any hassle.I followed the directions letter by letter and whazaam, I had a working fan!

The fan is powerful and very cooling and I like it a lot.On high, I can feel the effects of it in my bedroom when its on in the living room (I live in an apartment). Its not loud.I slept with it on low last night without a problem.

The only not-so-good trait is that the fan cover is not built to actaully snap securely into the fan base so it sort of just balances there.I suspect when I move it from room to room it may sometimes fall off and have to be re-balanced.Except for that, the fan is very sturdy and secure.I could see banging into it without knocking it over and no injury to the fan even if it was dropped or something (except the fan cover would fall off). ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Fan is garbage
We bought two of these fans about a year ago.Neither fan was used very much except on the occasional days in the summer when we didn't have our air conditioning on.One fan is now totally inoperative and the other doesn't oscillate and doesn't work at high speed.Don't even think about buying this fan!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fan
My friend has this fan.It is absolutely the best fan I've seen. The remote control is awesome. The low setting can freeze you out.It is also very quiet and powerful. I suggest this fan to anyone that likes to stay cool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Major Cooling Action
We bought this fan for our bedroom and even on low, it's too cold to sleep without a comforter completely covering us.I love the remote control and timer features. The fan is quiet and will easily cool down a large room.We don't have A/C and it's the only fan we own.I agree that it isn't ideal to only be able to control certain features (including oscillation) with the remote control, and the fan isn't overly sleek or modern in appearance, which keeps it from being a 5 star product, but overall an excellent fan! ... This double window fan draws in fresh, cool air from the outside or exhausts stale, hot air from inside. It can also do both simultaneously, because each of the two fans can be set independently to draw in or exhaust out, allowing the unit to exchange inside and outside air. Operable either manually or automatically--with its thermostat turning the fans off and on to maintain a selected temperature--the unit has a one-touch electronic control and two speeds so it can be adjusted to conditions. It's designed to fit double-hung, vertical-slider, and casement windows. A built-in 7-inch extender and two 3-inch extenders permit custom fitting for windows from 24 to 37 inches wide. Because the unit is lightweight plastic it can be moved easily from room to room. The fans have six blades and measure 8-1/2 inches in diameter. Overall, the unit is 12-1/4 inches high, arrives fully assembled, and carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

My central A.C. is broken and now I rely an a lot of fans-I am in the Tampa Bay area of Florida with an average heat index of 110!This is a great fan. looked at it at K-mart for $40.00.I have purchased just one but plan to buy at least 5 more.I read previous reviews about this fan being noisy-I dissaggree, I have fans that sound like jet engines, this one is NICE!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Window Fan for the Price
I am a big fan of this one.
