1-0 out of 5 stars Poor performer underwater/ NOT shock resistant
I bought one of these lights to work underwater and the seals failed filling the battery compartment with water. Streamlight replaced it, but when dropped from 4 feet to a carpeted floor it failed..replacement LED is 37.95 with shipping and replacement Streamlight 3C LED can be had for $39.00 so...I am tossing the Streamlight 3C LED in trash can and taking the loss...Sorry, but this item is not reliable, durable, or dependable..such a surprise for a company with such a good rep

5-0 out of 5 stars Once you've had LED you'll never go back.
This thing puts out an amazing amount of light and the batteries last forever.I keep one in the trunk of every car I own (3).

3-0 out of 5 stars Streamlight 33202 LED 3C NOT Waterproof
Everything said about this flashlight is spot on except for the fact that after using underwater in less than 10 feet, the battery compartment leaked and the batteries turned to rusted mush. So much for the claims of being waterproof!!! Otherwise a really nice flashlight but not the rugged competitor it claims to be...
So far have not heard from the manufacturer about servicing the warranty...will let you know ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great flashlight, just as described, but not a SureFire
If you've ever used a SureFire, you'd know they're superior. Don't be fooled by the Lumen and Candlepower measurements; it's different for every manufacturer. The military uses SureFire, not Streamlight, so SureFire's measurements need to be more accurate. Side by side there is no comparison.

Nonetheless, this Streamlight is very bright in Xenon mode, and surprisingly bright in LED mode. It's no spotlight, but it's suitable for most normal tasks. Also, the lower price, selection between LED and Xenon, longer runtime, and adjustable beam definitely make it worth having at least one of these. Keep one in your glove compartment! Ladies, keep one in your purse! Possibly bright enough to stun an attacker, but I'd rather have a SureFire for that.

Seems very rugged and well made. A little bigger than I expected, but not that much. Also, one thing that's not specified is how the flashlight switches between LED and Xenon--using the same button, it switches On(LED)->Off->On(Xenon)->Off and repeat. Also, the "momentary signal" feature (pressing the switch slightly, but not all the way) is opposite of Mag Lite; it only lets you turn it OFF momentarily while the light is ON. However, this flashlight is simply way better and brighter than any Mag Lite (unless you want a giant club for safety).

Finally, even though the "Titanium" colored one (51015) looks black in the pictues, it's completely silver colored. Very light silver color at that.

    Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Value For Dual Xenon & LED
It's not the Best in each class but the Best of the Twin-Mode task lights in the below $30 Class ! I second the opinions of other reviewers and add these observations: 1- Exceptionally high quality build & finish in it's price class 2- It stands on it's end for 'Ceiling-bounce' lighting as well as symetrical 'hang-ability' thanks to a nice lanyard. Just for fun, I sometimes brush my teeth at night with just the Streamlight 51005 TT-2L on &in LED mode- making it an ideal emergency and camping light. 3- For inspection of darker spaces or for longer distances at night(20 Meters / 60 feet) , the Xenon Mode is Very Very good 4- An excellent value for Soldier or Civilian 5-It fits nicely in a headband strap for middle-weight hands free lighting. Small Negative Complaints include: Annoying Mode switch requires that you step through from 'Off' to (Next Mode). A nice improvement would be to seperate On/Off from Mode -for a set once, use often-prefered mode setting.A narrower focusing head and stochastic reflector would make this an unbeatable all -around task light. Titanium construction would cut weight by 30%

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, One Of The Best Flashlights Out There
This Streamlight Flashlight has 72 lumens(little over 43,000 candle power)of brightness, Last 2.5 hours with full brightness and 28 hours with the 3 LEDs when Surefire flashlights come with 65 lumens(39,000 candle power) of brightness, 1 hour of use and no optional LEDs(and never will, streamlight has a patent on there dual LED/xenon flashlights). The price is also great for this flashlight and much cheaper than Surefire. I use this flashlight for everything, I just gave one to my nephew for his birthday, he is an Explorer for San Fernando P.D. and he loved it, especially the two choices of brightness for different situations. The only thing that is true about this great flashlight is the adjustable beam does not work that good but the light does not even need adjusting it is perfect the way it is. Surefire does not even offer this feature but both lights have the same style light beam. I also own a Streamlight rechargeable Ultra Stinger and I could not be more happier with this flashlight, it has 75,000 candle power(the power of this light is incredible) and a adjustable floodlight that does work very well. I think Surefire flashlights are a little over rated for the price they charge. If you want a good quality flashlight that is just as good as Surefire if not better than get a Streamlight for half or more off the price than a Surefire.
I have looked all over the internet for the best price on 3 volt lithium batteries and Surefire does offer the best deal(surprised) 12 3-volt lithium batteries for $15.00 at www.surefire.com . The 2nd best deal is on www.Ebay.com . ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Energy efficient, the Turbo Torch delivers 100 hours of LED white light without a battery change. Dubbed the next generation in handheld lighting devices, Coast's Turbo Torch uses a three-spot power beam with reflector tubes to create an extra-bright light that can be seen from more than a mile away. The anodized-steel case protects the unit from knocks and bumps, and the push-button on/off switch makes the Turbo Torch easy to operate. LED light is cold burning, so the Turbo Torch is much more energy efficient than standard flashlights. As a result, batteries last up to 10 times longer than with traditional lights. Better yet, there are no bulbs to break or burn out. The attractive metal case is shockproof and water-resistant, too, making the Turbo Torch a lifetime answer to your handheld lighting needs. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars good for short-spurt uses, else dims too quickly
I got this at a local Fry's Electronics for $12.99.Very bright initially.I thought since it's rated for 100 per set of batteries, it'd be a great little light for 1 or 2 hour continous usages.Unfortunately it dims rather quickly, say after 20 minutes or so and its no brighter than a Maglite solitaire.I did a search on the internet, and here's a very thorough review, including graphs of voltage vs time:

    http://ledmuseum.thefire.us/v2.htm.

I wish I had read this review before I purchsed the light. If you want long continuous run times, it's best to stick with LED flashlights that use larger batteries. The little N cells used by the V2 is not meant for that.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not satisfied
I would expect high quality from a pricier flashlight. Mine is difficult to use (if you can imagine a flashlight being difficult) The switch works at times and at other times you have to fumble around with it or hold the button down to keep it on!

3-0 out of 5 stars A durable little flashlight
I was so tired of the batteries dying and replacing the bulbs in my mag light, when I found this little light in the sporting goods department of target. Even though it was a bit expensive for a flashlight this size, I thought it would be worth it if I didn't have to replace the batteries and buy bulbs every month. What I don't like about this light is the open face exposing the three LED bulbs. I modified the lens of my old maglight to fit the face. Now the lights are a little more protected from mineral oil and other medicines I work with. Another feature that I dislike is the on/off button. I have only had the light for four months and the rubber button has already worn off. I have to turn the light on and off with a pen. This light is still as bright as when I bought it, and the bright light highlights the small nicks and dings in the machinery that I work on. I still recomend this light to friends and co-workers when they even mention getting a small flashlight. Of course I do have to mention this little flashlight is $24.99. Not exactly inexpensive. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Super little caving light
Having had numerous flashlights for my caving adventures, I can say this is a great little light. Not powerful little fellow. I have had 3 of these and they can clip to pretty much anything, keychains, purses, backpacks and helmets. I have had mine clipped to my helmet so I had one in easy reach whenmy other 'bigger' lights were hooked to my camos and are submerged in water or mud. These do not like water, but do not say water, something I should have known, my bad! My only complaint and reason for 4 stars is that the clips are made of plastic, heavy duty, but still plastic.I have given 3 as gifts, great card stuffers, and each person still has theirs in working condition. So maybe I am harsh on mine, they do get bumped in the caves.I do plan to buy more, so the plastic issue is not that bad. These are great for any purpose, enjoy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite the classic everybody makes it out to be.
Yeah, yeah.Everybody buys these Mini Maglites.Everybody says they're the benchmark, but I disagree, having owned one a number of years and having had time to document it's failings. For one thing, mine simply quit working recently, and when I visited the Maglite website, I learned that returning it under the warranty would cost more in shipping than it would cost to buy a new flashlight. How irritating. My solution was to toss the thing in the trash, and what a pity, as the quality of construction is quite good, notwithstanding the broken switch. But that brings me to my second point: the switch. This is the twist-on/off kind.Do you tend to carry a flashlight in your pack?In your pocket? Then avoid this model. The jostling that occurs during routine movement tend to turn the light on, a bit of a hassle when you're in the middle of nowhere only to find your light has turned itself on and exhausted the batteries. Now if only the manufacturer would adopt the same kind of push-button switch as on the larger models, and perhaps change the bulb to LEDs, then this model would be perfect rather than merely dated.A better bet is to pick up one or two cheap plastic Rayovacs at the hardware or discount store--better switch, comparable durability.

5-0 out of 5 stars When buying a flashlight, check out the Mini Mag first!
I have had a 2AA cell Mini Maglite for several years now. Through this time, I have dropped it a lot, but each time, the only damage is scratches. It is so durable that you can just throw it on the ground purposely and it will not be obliterated! The holster is a nice addition so that you can have easy acces when you are in a tight situation.
The candle feature is very useful, especially for camping (or night reading). Also, it is water proof! I never have to worry while using it in the rain.
Overall, this product is very useful. With its size and capabilities, it prooves worthy to be owned by anyone, no matter what there job is. Note: Another good Mag product is the 4D cell light.

5-0 out of 5 stars Universal Light
The first one I had was black, just like Model-T. Being dark and inside my dark overalls pocket, I forgot about it until it fell. It fell couple more times since. It is still working. It is a good size to go inside the tool box permanently. The size is also small enough to go inside where only your hand can reach. Sometimes in my line of work in seismic oil exploration I need to do come cabling, the Mini helps to get the connection right.

Bought a few more Mag lights since the first one, seeing as it is tough and rain proof. But when I travel it is the Mini that comes along instead of the Mag Solitaire because the AA size batteries is the most universally available battery you can find in most countries.

Torch (flashlight to you guys in US) is like penknives, tend to need it in an emergency. So one lives with the Leatherman, one in the car glove box, the old one still in the tool box.

Yeah, I have held the torch in my lips too in the past but now recommend a headband by Nite Ize to turn it into a headlamp. Another item worth considering if you go hiking a lot is the Nite Ize "Pock-its". This is a holster for Mini Mag Light and Leatherman, spare batteries. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Rechargable Home Flashlight
I have had one of these for several years and it is my light of choice for all home uses. On top of that, its a power on safety light and it is rechargable. Never seems to have a recharging problem, comes on when needed, and provides very clear light.
    I really love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Long term happy customer
We purchased this flashlight over 5 years ago and are amazed how happy we are with it.It has outlasted every other flashlight we have bought since and is very handy in emergencies. We have it in our kitchen and when the power goes out, it lights up our entire kitchen plus the family room and gives the children comfort when those inevitable Florida thunderstorms knock out the power. We could not find this model when we were last minute Christmas shopping this year and bought two others. They are vastly inferior, the biggest complaint is they do NOT turn on when the power goes out - they only leave on a very hard to see nightlight.I will now know better and buy my next one through Amazon and save the hassle.Keep with a proven product you are happy with! (Consumer class 101).

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work when needed

4-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Flashlight
As a professional auto mechanic I use a flashlight everyday, particularly when I'm performing vehicle inspections. My job has been made easier since I purchased a Streamlight Ultra Stinger (75,000).This light is so bright it simply makes other flashlights look like toys.I've used MagLite etc before, once you use an Ultra Stinger you won't want to go back. One caveat, bulbs for this flashlight are $8-$9 each, and I have to replace mine every few months. Although I do use this one for 2-3 hrs total per day, (more than most) lesser flashlights I've used required less frequent (and less expensive) replacement.Despite this I give the Ultra 4 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Household Flashlight
I possess some characteristics of a "flashlight geek".I can't help look at the "flashlight aisle" whenever I'm in a department and electronic store.I always want to see the latest-and-greatest.Well, I was in the market for a rechargeable, durable, reliable, and easy-to-use general household flashlight. Now, not just any flashlight would due.I wanted the "best" for under $100.After looking at Mag's assortment, many other great brand flashlights, and flirting with some of the newer LED flashlights, I chose the Streamlight Ultra Stringer.

I wanted a strong beam and this provided it.It is rechargeable and feels well made and durable.I haven't put it through any stress tests, but it has been perfect for providing instant bright light around the home.Yes, it may be slightly overkill for my use...

Enough praise, here are my ideas for improving this flashlight ("lantern"):

    - the bulb cover lens is plastic and seems like it could be made of something a little more scratch resistant.I haven't scratched mine yet, but it feels flimsy when I push in.This could be a positive... I'm not sure.I guess its better than glass shattering on impact.

    - variable focus on light beam could provide a greater range.Current range almost seems worthless.Maybe I haven't been in the right situations.I know Mag has a much better variable focus on their upper-end flashlights (even their lower-end!).

I'll end with a few positives...Its weight feels nice in the hand, the included chargers work as expected, construction is solid, light is extremely bright (to me), and I'd buy it again if I had it to do all over again.(I still keep a nice assortment of LED, cheapies, and one of those "eternal" flashlights around.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Amazon reshipped defective product to me! OUTRAGEOUS!
I got my Ultrastinger from Amazon today. It has a cracked/torn rubber nipple over the on/off switch, and from all the fingemarks and other tell-tale little marks on it, it's clearly a USED, PRE-OWNED item. Other evidence: the product box was not shrink-wrapped or sealed as it should be, and the battery was fully charged (new flashlights do not come with fully charged NiCad batteries).

I am outraged that Amazon would re-ship a returned, defective item, but that's exactly what has happened. This makes me very wary of ordering from them again. I immediately ordered that UPS come to pick this up and take it back at no charge to me. Now I have to "wait 7-12 days" AFTER they get this POS back before I get a refund. Nice.

Also, now that I've seen the way the rubber switch cover fails, I've decided not to get this product anyway. I'll have to look into another manufacturer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best compromise between light, weight, and comfort
I admit it, I'm an LED light junky. I have LED lights by Black Diamond, PrinctonTec, etc., as well as the original Petzl Tikka. The Tikka Plus is not the best value out there, and not even the lightest for its brightness (that goes to its sibling, the ZipkaPlus). But it's the one that, now that I've upgraded from my original Tikka, almost always ends up in my backpack.

    Why is that? Well:

    1. Light weight. Mere ounces.
    2. No bulky box or overstrap that makes it hard to wear a hood or hat with the lamp. Makes it more useful in rain.
    3. A quite impressive flood of light for such a small lamp. I do suggest carrying a flashlight with a brighter more focused beam for when you're trying to do pathfinding at night, but if you're keeping to well-defined trails, you'll have no problem with the Tikka's amount of light.
    4. Very comfortable to wear on your head. In fact, maybe too comfortable. I remember one time I set out from camp while it was still dark. About 30 minutes later, I no longer needed my lamp, so turned it off, but left it on my head in case the next dip into shadow was too dark. About an hour later, I was puffing up a long incline, reached up to wipe the sweat off my forehead, and ended up sending my Tikka flying -- I had forgotten it was up there.

I had the original Tikka and it was one of my favorites too, but had a few things I didn't like -- the inability to swivel the beam up and down, only barely enough light to hike in the dark, and a rather flimsy and klunky switch. The Tikka Plus fixes all of those issues by adding one more LED, adding a swivel, and adding a better switch. Oh sure, my Princeton Tech Yukon XL makes more light, its batteries last longer, and it is a technological marvel with its combination of traditional LED's and the new 1-watt LED. It also weighs twice as much, its big AA battery box that sits on the back of the head is very clumsy to wear with a hood or hat (as I might want to wear if it's raining), and I can't hike twice as well at night with it.

Weaknesses? Well, the battery compartment is difficult to get open, and it's hard to get the batteries in and the compartment closed again. And of course it has no focused beam of light for looking at stuff further than 20 feet or so, and the battery life isn't as long as on headlamps with fewer LED's or more batteries. Other than that...

So yes, the Petzl isn't the brightest, and isn't the longest lasting, and isn't even the lightest. But it hits a real sweet spot point that makes it my favorite headlamp despite all that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful when you need hands-free light.
I'm not much of a camper, but I know that a good hands-free light source is important when doing the outdoor thing. So when I was planning that aspect of my '04 Sturgis motorcycle trip, I did some research along those lines.I read a number of positive reviews for the Petzls on Amazon.com, and decided that one of those would do.However, I wanted to make sure by doing some hands-on research, so I went off to my local outdoors shop for that purpose.

I was going to buy the Petzl with the retractable string headband, since it was the most compact. But after trying it on, I was afraid the thin string would break at the worst possible moment, and I'd be sucking wind.I looked at other Petzls, and finally settled on the Tikka Plus.I liked that the lamp had adjustable pointing positions, and it seemed bright even in a well-lit store.Plus the sturdy headband fit well; it didn't feel like it would fly off if I sneezed too hard, or break under heavy use. Also, the Tikka Plus was light, compact even with the wide elastic headband, and ran on easily replaceable AAA batteries. Finally, the price was right, especially compared to some of the high-end, rechargeable models I saw.

I knew I'd made the right choice after the first night outside. It still fit my head snug and comfortably, even while walking or moving around in close quarters. As for the light's brightness, it was more than sufficient.I was able to read just fine after dark in my small tent, and it made finding that elusive item at the bottom of my pack much easier. Also, the Petzl came in handy when I had to cross a grassy, wooded campground for that late-night bathroom break.Others have complained about the push button light switch, but I had no real issues with it. The different light intensities were a nice feature - I used the highest one the most, followed by the second brightest for night reading at sack time (this is where the light's tilt function was useful; it helped me achieve a comfortable reading position).

The Petzl Tikka Plus was one of the single most useful camping items I brought along on my Sturgis trip.If you camp a lot, then perhaps a higher-end lamp would suit you better. But for an infrequent camper like me, this one was just fine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Expensive for what you get
I've used Petzl headlamps for many years. In fact, my old Zoom is still working great - now demoted from mountianeering duty because there are so many lighter options with comparable performance. The original Tikka was great when it was first available, but the competition has far surpassed it in terms of value. At $35, the new Tikka plus just can't compete with comparably priced models from Black Diamond or Princeton. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive light, inexpensive batteries, good light... but
there are better lights out there.Of course they cost more money.I have 5 or 6 of these floating around between cars, night stand, wifes night stand etc. They work great, last a long time, and if something happens to them (battery leaks, run over with tank etc) you just chuck it and buy a new one.

That said, when you are looking for a flashlight that you have to rely on and you don't want to carry 3 or 4 with you, I'd look to an LED flashlight.LEDs don't burn out very fast, runtime on batteries is WAY longer. My personal favorite is the Inova x5.5 LEDs, 20 hour runtime on one set of batteries, waterproof, and brighter than a mini mag by far.It just costs 3-4 times as much, which is why I have one of them instead of 4.

3-0 out of 5 stars "Mini Mag a power 'shack', not a powerhouse"
In the last decade, people have been rooting for this small flashlight that was always considered to be cool, with it's aircraft aluminum 'armour', and bright beam. This thing was once considered to be more popular than a lightsaber.

These qualities stand to this day and should be considered should you buy this as a gift or lighting tool for someone. It's strong reaching beam fires a fair distance in spot mode, and a moderately effective flood mode lights up a room quite nicely.

Now, with these kudos, there are some things to keep in mind when buying this light:

Unless you get silver/puter or light blue, this black knight can be easily lost in the dark if you don't have it on. Also, the fact that it's a heavy duty metal doesn't help it's chances from a fairly tall fall. This thing is not shock absorbent. Maybe it's casing is, but it's innards aren't. And to top it all off, this flashlight is more thirsty for batteries than a 5 litre gas guzzling Mustang. After a good half hour, it dims a litte, but a little too soon.

So, what do I recommend above the Mini Mag? Two great recommendations: the Energizer Double Barrel 'xenon' flashlight, with it's great looks, and better battery life. The xenon bulb is also brighter than the Mag's 'T-Bulb'. Another great light is the Rayovac AA Industrial flashlight. Now, this flashlight does not have the same distance reach as the Mini Mag (in spot mode) since this light is built with a 'wide spot', that acts like a super (and I mean super for an AA light) mini spot light, and maybe not at long distances, but at least for lighting up.....the WOODS! I find this to be the best light for when you're lost in the woods. If you are one of those people who walk a lot at night, especially near any forests and wooded areas, then the Rayovac AA Industrial light is the one-if you aren't interested in an L.E.D lights, which should be your first choice. You'd probably think that a Rayovac AA flashlight wouldn't be powerful enough for to light up the thick of the woods in the night and twenty feet in front of you...well, guess again!! You'd better get one and try it out. It's output is nearly as bright as a 2D Maglite in flood mode. Really! I carry it everywhere with me (knapsack). And mega shock resistant!!

So, hats off to Mag for a great run, and for making a cool and powerful light with a few self defeating faults.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, tough, American- made and versatile
These are perfect for the car or toolbox; small, reliable, and rugged. The two-pin bulb can also be replaced with a very small LED (off-the-shelf, not a MAG product obviously) for easily reading azimuth scales on your backyard telescope while stargazing. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good idea though an odd design
Each time the lights go out due to a momentary surge in the
line, I smile to see this Panasonic spring into action.

The included wall-mount bracket proved to be an extremely
awkward configuration, so I chose to place the unit on a bookshelf opposite my bed. This location serves to camouflage
the side-mount power source/switch/pilot light, and also assures me that my bedroom won't be in darkness during an outage. And the front-facing fluorescent bulb isn't an eyesore on the shelf.

The unit can then be used as a portable, stand-alone source in
    any area of need.

I have set it to come on automatically whenever there's an
interruption of power. And it has not ever failed in these

1-0 out of 5 stars My Experience with Zipka
I was very excited to have my Zipka at first, for all the reasons others mention here. Then I noted, as another reviewer did, that it seemed to eat batteries faster than advertised - but I still loved it. Then it began to misbehave. It began flashing and not turning on at various times - really cut my enjoyment. But still tolerable. Then one day I had it mounted on my bike helmet and it flipped off, falling to the ground and breaking in an unfixable way. I won't buy another - if they make one that's more robust and functions consistently, I'd be delighted. I'm going to try the Princeton Tec Aurora now. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic For Camping And Many Other Uses!
I purchased my first Zipka as a stocking stuffer for my husband, HOPING he would use it.It gets used all the time!Taking out the trash, in the workshop, as a book light, around the house and of course Camping! My whole family has since purchased them. The battery lasts forever and its a great way to tend the fire or cook without having to set up a lantern or other light source. Its light weight and durable too.Even my small cousins have them and they work great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow- lasts forever, great product!
This light never dies due to its LED technology. It is not extremely bright but definitely bright enough for illuminating your path at night. It is great for power outages or camping.I feel much safer walking or jogging at night in my neighborhood.Light-weight, very good attachment mechanism. This product is a major improvement compared to the standard head lamp, to the point that everybody should have one.It is a perfect gift in that it is (1) reasonable price, (2) usable by anybody, (3) sufficiently different that people are unlikely to already have it, (4) truly useful/safety feature as opposed to worthless junk that is most gifts. ... Here's a nice little light in a tough little package. It's perfect for quick, occasional use, say, to shed some light on a dark keyhole. The built-in key lanyard is long enough to let you use your key and the beam at the same time, and the beam width adjust with an easy turn from spotlight to flood. It's compact enough for a pocket and tough enough to tumble around in a briefcase, backpack or handbag—-it's corrosion-resistant, too. We especially like the extra bulb packed right in the end compartment, so you won't get caught without a light. Granted, the beam could be beefier, but for its purpose, it's a great little flashlight.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst product from Maglite
This is easily the worst product Maglite has ever produced. It's bright allright -- right out of the package. Carry it a few days on your keychain, and the output is dim and flickery. Reseating the tail cap gets rid of the flicker, but you have to do it every time you want to use it. And it stays dim. My advice: Go to the nearest Wal-Mart and get a Dorcy 1-AAA LED. It's slightly larger than the Mag Solitaire, but for $4.99 you'll get a light that's more reliable, brighter and has longer battery life. And you'll never have to change a bulb, too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good light, but limited uses
This light is decent for the cost and what it does. I keep mine in the car in case I need to fumble around in the seat looking for something.

Beyond that, the light is really limited though.

1-0 out of 5 stars Archaic technology-Go LED or CF.
Conventional flashlights like these are archaic; I have one of these Black AAA Mag-Lites I got as vendorware, but I wouldn't pay for it.Any battery-operated light you buy these days should be LED or flourescent.
Otherwise, the light is far bulkier than it need be.
LED-based flashlights have bulbs (LEDs) that virtually never burn out, and can use smaller batteries, as batteries last about 3x as long, so they can be smaller and lighter.
(The only exception I can think of for flashlights with conventional (incandescent or halogen bulbs) is for those that are used as batons, like the ones police officers carry, where the weight is an advantage.)
Portable fluorescent lights can use much smaller batteries, as batteries last about 5x as long, so they can be much lighter, and about the same size, as the bulb takes up the space the batteries used to take up.

LED and flourescent battery-operated lights are are available at low prices now - far less than conventionals when you factor in the convenience, costs of batteries, etc, but about 2x the price initially, if you shop around.I have a couple of each.Often they're not stocked with the conventional flashlights; I often see portable fluorescents in the closet sections - made to be put in a closet and run off a battery. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
This items is as advertised and works very well. I love LED flashlights and this is my third. I use all three. The battery savings are phenominal. The three settings for light intensity are very nice. It is great as an extra photo light in low light conditions. It is great for computer repairs, trimming mustache, fixing car engine, looking for something in a drawer. I love it, but I agree that one needs a hat on or it will pull hair out. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is the hardhat model, not barehead model.
Pros: Switch functions solidly and easily. Construction is solid and durable. Brighter than expected. Beam is fairly even/smooth.

Notice: Streamlight makes two models of the Septor. The 61008 is for hardhats and has a rubber strap and head plate with two connection points (this model is NOT good for wearing directly on your head/hair). The 61007 has an elastic cloth headband, including a top strap, and a head plate with three strap connection points; designed for wearing directly on your head/hair. ...(Streamlight Customer Service said that the head plate with three strap connection points is not currently available as a part that can be ordered from service.)...

3-0 out of 5 stars Two problems
This light has two problems. 1st, it has the rubber hardhat strap rather than the three point elastic head strap.Putting it on your head without a hat is like putting on a SCUBA mask with a dry head - it pulls your hair out.The solution is to wear it with a baseball cap, but it would be better if it had the elastic straps.

2nd, the light is not as bright as I had thought it would be.Don't expect it to equal a full size Maglite.

That being said, it is a wonderfully light headlamp that runs a long time and is fairly bright for close up hands free work. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars plastic broke after two months
After two months, the plastic clip broke, making this clip light useless.I would not recommend buying this product. All of lights have plastic clips, and will undoubtedly break the same way.Since the product is trashed, there is no way to evaluate whether the light/battery/switch will actually last.A metal clip or more durable mechanism is advisable...but the manufacturer has continued to make it this way for a long time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend this light
I bought some of these lights after seeing one a friend had.The bulbs come in several colors, but I like the blue one the best.Amber, red, and green are not as bright, and the color is distracting. Those colors would be okay for something like concerts or signaling or something. The white light seems to have a hot spot like most flashlights. The blue lights up the dark the same way a bright moon does on a clear night. It's bright enough to see very well in the dark, but without the hot spot that white flashlights give.

As far as lasting a lifetime, I don't think they mean that it will actually last a lifetime, but they do offer to replace battery and/or led free for your lifetime--with the standard handling fee, which ends up being about what it costs to buy a new one.I've had mine for several years now, and use them constantly.Mine are just now beginning to be hard to light; either the switch is getting worn or battery is getting low.I plan to send them back in, or just replace them with new ones, because I like them so much. They're well worth the price.A couple of mine have even been through the washer and dryer and still work (although the dryer deformed the plastic case a little). That's good to know if you plan to use yours in the outdoors--if you drop it in the water, it'll still work. The one thing that would make this light perfect, and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is that it needs some way to turn it on permanently. As it is you have to keep the button pressed down to make it light.A great tool.Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great light

This flashlight was made to specs that do not consider the size of D cell batteries. So, the batteries shake around. The poor contact mades it flicker and dim frequently

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for kids and camping.
Mydaughter needed a flashlight for summer camp 4 years ago. This works well, and for a really good price. The other girls liked that this one also does double duty as a lantern, for schlepping to the bathroom and late night walks over a suspension bridge.Seems they all preferd the lantern to regular a flashlight. My niece wants one for camp now.

Seems quite durable, have had it for 4 years and it has lasted through 3 sessions at camp, several outdoor activities and no idea what else she may have put it through. It has been knocked on walls, dropped 2 stories, still can not believe it made it survived that.

They had no complaints, and seemed quite pleased with this. I recommend for going to summer camp or just overnight in the backyard on the trampoline. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great light for the price
There are lots of better lights out there. But for less then $20, you can't beat the price for this flashlight. Especially if you just need something to have around the house.

The only real problem I have with this light is that the switch tends to come off fairly easy. It's not too hard to put it back on, and if you lose it, it's fairly cheap to replace (less then $2). But still annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best.
Though this 2D model is slightly smaller than the 4D model that many people are familar with, this model is just as useful. In fact, I prefer the 2D model because it's easier to handle and not as awkward to carry as the longer 4D model. The light in this baby shines bright enough to almost completely illuminate a small room. If you so desire, you can focus the beam or let it spill out. The bulb hardly ever has to be replaced and even if you use the inexpensive batteries, they don't need to be replaced as often either (the light sucks ALL the juice out). Besides just being a great flashlight, the Mag-Lite 2D also works well as a club--you can actually knock someone out cold. A great tool; one that every home should at least have one of.

1-0 out of 5 stars Long-time customer'sfirst time warranty claim ignored!
3 weeks ago, I contacted Maglite for a replacement switch for my 4-D flashlight, in which the switch failed. The customer service rep asked me for my serial number, which I gave her and she assured me that I could get a replacement switch.I gave her my name and address and she said that a shipment had just gone out, and it would be in the next shipment. That was fine with me.Days turned into weeks.Still no part.More days went by.STILL no part in the mail.

Hmmmm. Is this how long time customers are treated?I previous owned a variety of their flashlights, from an AAA Solitaire to a 5-D flashlight, at least 5 in total. My dad has purchased in the neighborhood of 15 or more himself, starting in about '86 when someone else turned him onto Maglites.

Customer support is as important to me as the product itself.Has customer support become a casualty of a tough economy?

5-0 out of 5 stars Good light and bulbs
Very good and bright bulbs. Seem to handle alot of abuse from dropping the light. Recommend the 19.2 volt porter cable light andf these bulbs to anyone. It's dark when I get home from work everyday in the winter so I use this every day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong Beam
These bulbs provide a strong beam which is much better than conventional flashlights. They are what makes the 19.2 volt PorterCable worklight such a great tool. ( See my review ) One point I must make though; the filament in these bulbs is subject to breaking by a good rap from dropping the light or whacking it fairly hard on something, especially when working in cold temperatures, hence the 4 star rating. I have broken two since I bought my light in November. Thank goodness the folks at PorterCable had the foresight to include a spare bulb holder in the head of the light, behind the screw off lens. I always keep a pack or two of these bulbs on hand in my PorterCable carrying case. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Awesome.OR SO I THOUGHT!!!THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN EDITED!
I will leave my original review posted below, to see how I felt BEFORE the "event".The event unfolded as thus:

I have had the headlamp for about 3 weeks.I have used it about once a week, when, on Thursday nights, I walk the dog when I get home from work late.Tonight was walk #4 since getting the headlamp. Each walk lasts no longer than 45 minutes, usually 30.About ten minutes into tonight's walk...the batteries died.

    Yep.We're talking 2-3 hour battery life, MAX.From 5 stars to 2, just like that.What a huge disappointment.

    ___________________________________________________________

This headlamp is great. Not only a comfortable and snug fit, but THREE different light settings.

The green light setting is for the kid in my 30 year old body-I love running around with that on while I walk the dog. And, hey, it works extremely well.

The super bright white light is great for close-up, its almost like daytime within a few feet of your head.

Finally, the "regular flashlight" setting is powerful, and you can see very well far away.

If you are getting a headlamp, there is no doubt this should be your choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Headlamp
I highly recommend this. The green single LED mode works well for most things, so the battery life should be good. I haven't had it long enough to replace the battery. It is comfortable to wear, very small, and not heavy at all.

My only (small) critisism is that it doesn't hold it's vertical angle as well as I would like.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Headlamp is Great!
I realy like this headlamp. It works great.Very comfortable and it is adjustable. It has a bright green night vision setting, a bright white setting, and a super bright xenon bulb for long distance. It looks cool and is water resistant.I highly recomend it! ... Read more
