Great having all functions, but reliability is just ok
This unit takes a lot of water out of the air in my basement, and shuts off when the tank is full. You can also hook it up to drain out a hole which accomodates a hose of some sort.

I am having a problem with it after only running it for a few months. The dehumidifier keeps shutting off, thinking the tank is full and it surely isn't. I played with the switch and gave the unit a bang and it started working again. Not confidence inspiring. For an item in this price range, it shouldn't have switch problems in the first 3 months. Holmes window fan
My central A.C. is broken and now I rely an a lot of fans-I am in the Tampa Bay area of Florida with an average heat index of 110!This is a great fan. looked at it at K-mart for $40.00.I have purchased just one but plan to buy at least 5 more.I read previous reviews about this fan being noisy-I dissaggree, I have fans that sound like jet engines, this one is NICE!

Best Window Fan for the Price
I am a big fan of this one. (yuck, yuck)Actually, the fan works very well.It's speeds are noticably different depending on your need and the thermostat settings really work.I bought one for a room where and AC was not practical and it worked like a charm.I now have three of them and even in the largest room, it does a great job.Not silent, but not distracting.A great buy - especially with the three-year warantee.

This is a good dual fan, but it's loud, even on low. I do not recommend it for a bedroom window -- you won't get to sleep. But for other rooms where a certain level of quiet isn't necessary, it's worth it. ... Read more

Quiet at first, but loud after one year
I have the HT30RC verstion of this fan, which is the same thing, but with a remote control. When I first got the fan, it was very quiet and worked well in my bedroom. However, after only having the fan for one year, the motor starts making this knocking noise every time the fan is on for longer then 30 minutes or so... The noise is loud enough to disturb my sleep.
Further, I tried looking up the fan on Holmes website, but they've already pulled all support for the fan. It's like it never existed.
Your mileage may vary, but I feel I deserved to use the fan for longer than a year before started acting up, especially considering the price I paid for it.

***Update*** Two days after writing this article, I tried taking the fan apart to fix it. A little WD-40 at the motor spindle and everything is as good as new. This would probably raise my rating to a four... I think Holmes should at least still list the fan on their website!

I just purchased this fan....
I just purchased this fan.My main reason was the Holmes name and the fact it took up little space.It's hard to find a standing fan that doesn't have a large round base.

Anyway, I like the fan so far...I am running it on high to get enough power out of it.But, it's pretty quiet and safe from little kid fingers which is a big plus.

Searching for my 3rd "Tower Fan" - replacement...
OK - I am on the hunt to replace my 2nd tower fan which has just died, like it's predecessor.The first tower fan I purchased was the costly "Bionaire", w/remote etc... not on sale, I paid about $85.This Bionaire fan just stopped one day, it was only 6 months old.The warranty, (15 years - wow!) is way more trouble than it's worth and entails further layout of cash - so it's basically "useless".

Second Tower Fan I bought for $39 - made by "Seville", & not as many features but that's ok since I didn't use them on the previous model anyway.This fan lasted 1.5 years, and at least gave me a warning by stopping one day, but starting up again a minute later, this was about two weeks before blowing it's final breeze.In comparison to the first based on the cost to life ratio, this fan was much better, but neither lived as long as expected...

Now I will try this fan and see how long it lasts - but it appears these tower fans generally don't have a long "life expectancy".Given that, don't spend too much on one of these - since they are all made in china and PROBABLY by the same company anyway. ... Read more

This is a simple circular-design domestic air cleaner that meets HEPA standards (removing 99.97 percent of all particulates as small as 3 microns). It has a single knob on the front that controls off, low, and high settings. A fold-down handle on the top makes for easy portability. Both filters can be replaced, which needs to be done every one to three years, depending on use. portable, relatively quiet, well-designed
This unit is a bit large, but not very heavy at all and has
a convenient handle on top, making it easy to move it to
another room, if necessary.The purifier both takes in and
expels air horizontally in all directions, taking in air
through the grille and expelling it very close to the floor
through the gap that runs around the unit just above the fan
switch.The lower of the two fan settings is very quiet and
is barely audible.The higher setting is audible but unless
you're a light sleeper (e.g., unable to sleep w/ an air
conditioner on), you could put this unit in a bedroom.The
handle has a threaded bolt built into it and screws on to
the top of the unit, securing the plastic grille/cover.
This makes opening up the unit to replace filters is as easy
as spinning the handle to unscrew it and lifting off the
cover.It's worth noting that we don't have really bad
allergies, so I can't provide a confident testimonial of
this product's effectiveness for a severe allergy sufferer,
but we definitely noticed an improvement in air quality in
our (small) apartment.(Of course, you have HEPA
certification and the promise of handling 192 cubic feet to
