DIsappointing machine
The hospital provided me with this monitor after my kidney transplant. Right away, readings were 20-30 points too high. Luckily, I didn't pay for it.

It gets two stars only because I always assume it's 20 points too high and subtract.

Found it useless
Bought one for my Mom who has moderately high BP.When we tested her BP with this instrument, it showed her BP as 165/80!! We took her to her Doctor to get a checkup done.Measurement using their Sphygmomanometer showed 132/75.We were relieved that she was OK but were upset that this instrument would give a reading that was so off.

We returned it.

If you are a serious user, consider buying a Sphygmomanometer.

I have great blood pressure, for those who were worried.....
Okay, I think I must have joked too many times with potential dates and amours about their heart and blood pressure...So what popped up at Christmas a blood pressure monitor.

I must say it works great!!! It comes with a nifty little booklet on Managing High Blood Pressure. It explains the basics: What it is, What it does to your body, and What you can do about it.

It is very easy to use: pretty much just put the cuff on like the directions, relax, press the on button, wait for the heart symbol, and then press start. Easy as can be, until the cuff starts feeling like your arm is being squeezed off.

This monitor gives the systolic and diastolic pressure along with the pulse rate. This monitor even keeps memory of your readings. Kewl, huh!!!

So if you want something simple and easy buy this one I have found it fun to take my blood pressure during the day after all kinds of activities:)

I can absolutely say I am in great health, blood pressure health that is,110 over 70. So take care of your heart and blood pressure.

A smoke detector that's easy to use
Up until now I've only lived in houses with the usual smattering of random low-end smoke detectors.This smoke detector puts all of them to shame.

Installation is incredibly easy.The smoke detector separates from the base with a light twist (not the usual yanking or bending that always has me convinced I'm about to break the thing).The mounting base is really light, which is nice when your standing on a chair and pressing it to the ceiling above your head.There are two long channels for placing the two screws that hold it up, which gives you a decent amount of error margin.If you're replacing an existing smoke detector, sometimes you can even use both original holes.

First Alert also put some thought into battery replacement.The battery compartment is a dedicated slot that swings out from the side.It's easy to open and close and keyed so it won't close properly if you put the battery in backwards.Although the battery is a standard 9V, the smoke detector uses pressure clips (like you'd find with AAs) rather than the standard snap-in design which requires more forcing.

The remote silencer/test feature is great.Basically you hold down the volume or channel controls from your TV remote to silence or test the detector.This makes this smoke detector ideal for kitchens and rooms with high ceilings since you can silence it without having to get out a stool.

One drawback of the remote feature is that if you have a bedroom or kitchen with a TV in it, you probably shouldn't buy this smoke detector for that room.Before we installed them, I had the detectors on a side table in the living room and managed to accidentally set off their test modes while using the remote to operate the TV.

If you're buying the smoke detector for use in a house you plan to rent out, you might be concerned that all these convenience features will make it too easy for your tenants to disable the detectors.First Alert solved this problem by providing two locking pins: one for the battery compartment and one for the twist-off base.These pins are installed and removed with a pair of pliers.Of course installing the locking pins makes the smoke detector harder to use.

As one of the other reviewers commented, this smoke detector doesn't look like the picture on this page.Go to First Alert's web site if you want to see an accurate picture.

The best dual sensor smoke alarm
This is supposed to be one of the best rated dual sensor smoke detectors on the market. I have 5 of them.

The image shown here is either an old version or just the wrong version. In actuality, these detectors are much better looking. they are actually very round or domed. They also are rather tall, hanging lower from the ceiling than some. I don't mind since they don't look bad and they're rated well. You should check First Alerts website if you want to see what these really look like and haven't seen them.

The other detector that is rated similar to this is a Kidde Nighthawk brand. But it's reported to have more false alarms so I went with this one. I like the looks of this First Alert better, but that's just my opinion.

The photoelectric sensor uses a beam of light that sets off the alarm when broken by smoke. hence the term "smoldering". The ionization sensor is for the detection of flaming fires.

I think you'd have less time to react if the flames are already shooting that's why I like the idea of having a photoelectric cell. If a small fire starts, some smoke would be given off and set off the alarm before it got really big giving you hopefully more of a warning and more time. At least that's what I believe.

If this is in the kitchen as is mine and if you cook without a range hood drawing the smoke this detector would go off. If you toast on the dark side without a range hood pulling some smoke the detector would go off. I don't think of those as false alarms I think it's a testement to the sensitivity of the photoelectric detector which I like.

The alarm is quite loud. In the event I toast or cook and inadvertently don't have my range hood on and the alarm goes off I just twist the detector out of its base and put it on the counter until I'm done venting the smoke. And that smoke by the way, is barely perceptible with the eye, which is a testament to the sensitivity of this smoke detector.

Installation is a piece of cake. Battery replacemnent is equally simple. Actually more simple. There's a little door you open and pop the battery into while the detector is installed. You don't have to pull it down. although, it's just a simple twist to remove.

Also, you can test the detector with any TV remote. You can shut it off with a remote as well but I just use the external button for both.

I'm very pleased with these, as I stated I have 5. I bought them all through Amazon at different times and had no trouble with shipping. They came fast, were packed well and I feel a bit more comfortable having them up.

Garage Safety
I love this item.Have had it for two years.My garage door was left open all night lots of times because I forgot it was open.Now the sentry tells me when the door is open.It works really good.I consider it a "must have" for folks with attached garages where they can't see their garage doors to know if they are open or not.Have also given this as a gift and everyone we give it to loves it.

Now I geta good nights sleep
With 2 teenage boys who use the garage door as the main entry in the house, I now know when they get home and that the door was closed behind them. Great product, easy to install.

Great performance and value
We were pleased to get this as quickly as we did, having ordered it July 5, and receiving it July 23 - much faster than the estimated delivery date of Aug 11-26!

We previously tried the Baby Quiet Sounds system purchased from Babies R Us for the same price - about a BenFranklin. This we returned in a few days because 1. There was a lot of interference/poor signal and 2. The wall transformer (the plug) for both the monitor and camera became extremely hot - almost too hot to touch. NOT SAFE! Other reviewers have commented on these flaws.

Well this device was a snap to "install" All you do is plug both camera and monitor in and turn them on. There are 4 channels that can be used. So up to 4 cameras can be hooked up. You can set the monitor to scan through all 4 channels for a variable number of seconds. You can output the video signal to a VCR - Sylvania apparently sells a timelapse VCR to record long periods of time on 1 tape.

We use it as a baby monitor. It has infrared capability so you get an image even in the dark. We set the camera a few feet from our kid, and can see her head in the dark although without fine detail. We place the monitor downstairs or upstairs in our bedroom. The signal is clear. It uses 2.4 GHz. We have a wireless computer network, 2 wireless phones, and our cell phone which all use 2.4GHz but so far the signal remains strong. Only the occasional line or 2 through the image.

The plugs still get hot on this one too, but not as hot as the Quiet Sounds. It's probably best to leave the monitor off most of the time, and just flip it on when you want to see what's going on. Unfortunately there is no setting for you to just get audio, so we are using the audio baby monitor we already had to do this.

Considering this was priced at One hundred fifty originally, it seems like a good deal, and so far we are pleased with the purchase.

Nice Little camera for daylight, low-light conditions
This little camera works nice in daylight and low light conditions, but does not work very efficiently on dark areas. Also if you install it close to a glossy surface, like semi-gloss or gloss painted concrete, you will recieve IR bounce that looks like a halo at night. The monitor works nice and the sound is clear. Wonderful - I Love it!!
I bought this unit to monitor my barn.I have 17 mares to foal and want to keep a very close eye on them.My barn is over 300 feet away from my house and this unit works beautifully.The monitor works with up to four cameras.I now have 3 cameras hooked up to my unit and am considering buying the 4th camera.Its easy to install, easy to run.I have a crystal clear picture in one stall, and a not quite as good of pictures in the other two stalls which are a little further away.I love this product. ... Great instead of those dumb leashes!
All though there are many different views on this, I love it!I couldnt stand the thought of using a leash or harness on my son.Its just not humane to me. ANd toddlers are wanderers!We go tothe parks,we travel, malls, etc and he wants to go and go! So i use this and it really lets him have the independace he craves, while allowing me to monitor where he is.The sound is ok.its not to loud so its not embarrasing.A great item if you have a wandering tot! and need peace of mind.

Great idea...impractical use
Angel Alert is a great idea for monitoring your children.However, the 30 foot range is impractical for congested areas, such as airports, theme parks, or malls.As a parent of small children, I would never let my kids go beyond a 10-15 foot range in airports or theme parks.On a beach or at a public park, however, the angel alert would be of a more practical use because your children may travel 30+ feet from you and still be in full view.I would have liked the ability to adjust the range of alert for varying places of travel. ... Worked as expected
Having read another review of this product, I had some trepidation before ordering. I called the manufacturer's Technical Department. and was encouraged by what I heard. I decided to order, largely because of Amazon's liberal return policy. Now that I have it, I find the product to work admirably. Each time the postal deliverer opens my mailbox, the system alerts me. There have been no false alarms. I would recommend this product to anyone who is tired of repeated trips to the mailbox.

Mail Alert didn't alert!
I installed the Mail Alert receiever inside my house behind a window with clear view of the mail box. The glass and window screen were the only thing between the transmitter and receiver. Distance about 175 ft. Installed transmitter as specified on mail box. The receiver would light up and beep once about 1 out of 5 times I opened the mail box door. Otherwise nothing happened. I checked the battery with a digital VOM and voltage was 3" VDC which indicated a new battery. I returned the Mail Alert device as it would not work consistantly. Seems to work, but there's a typo somewhere!
Ok, I just got one of these things, and I have to admit that last evening I stood by our seasonal stream watching the mosquitoes laying eggs on the water, and the mosquitoes weren't noticing me a bit.I do have a big Lentek mosquito trap which has been helping quite a bit with the populations, but really, they should have been driving me nuts.

Now, I haven't yet used up a cartridge, so I don't know which one is inaccurate, but the online advertising, copied here and a zillion other places, says each cartridge lasts "at least 120 hours".However, the product package says they last "up to 12 hours".Big difference!I've emailed the company and will be quite interested to learn which is the actual specification.

This item is GREAT!
My 7 yr. old son is allergic to mosquito bites, plus I'm concerned about West Nile virus.Unfortunately, mosquitoes love him, and he always get some really nasty bites when he is sleeping.I bought this little unit, and now have peace of mind!I turn this on in his room for about half an hour at bedtime, leaving his door open, then turn it off and close his door.Any mosquitoes lurking in his room have been driven out by the geranium scent.I do the same in my own bedroom, and I am very pleased with the results.

The geranium scent is rather strong, but not unpleasant.I don't find it necessary to leave this on all night, so it's not a problem.I also like that you can clip this on your belt and turn it on for when you are outside.It's just a tiny little fan blowing through the geranium scented cartridge, so it is small and light-weight. ...
