    Editorial Review

There are lots of options for mounting a benchtop planer, but this is one of the best. While it's predrilled precisely for DeWalt planers, a few seconds with a drill fixes that problem. It's made of rugged, durable, heavy-gauge steel and assembles fairly easily in under an hour. When locked, the unit's rock-stable, but just trip the pedal that engages the wheels and you're moving. It's the perfect stand for the home woodworker because when you're done planing, you can move the unit out of the center of the room and store it against a wall effortlessly.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... • Constructed from heavy gauge steel brackets for durability
    • Pedal engages and disengages the wheels under the stand to allow easy movement of the planer

5-0 out of 5 stars Mobile Planer stand
This is a very handy stand for many power tools besides the planer. I have a jig saw on one, a small drill press on another. Also find it convenient for the Tormek wet grinder, just the right height. I have several of these carts. Buy two and qualify for the $25 discount offer!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great stand for any planer!
The only criticism I have is the roller wheels (the stationary ones) - They should have been put inboard instead of outboard, not sure why dewalt did this as there is plenty of room inboard for them. That's why they lost 1 star - I couldn't for the life of me figure out why they chose this positioning. Fortunately I can do metal work and will fix this minor design flaw myself. The problem is the wheels snag on everything if you are in a tight space as I am.

This only takes about 20 minutes to put together and all holes fit perfectly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Plane and Simple
In all likelihood the first reaction of someone considering the purchase of the DW735 Planer is going to be that the stand is simply too expensive. And it is dear.I didn't buy this table at first, but used a standing table I had in the shop. The only problem was that moving the planer about in a small shop rapidly becomes a weightlifting exercise. The DW7350 is the heaviest of the portable planers. To solve this DeWalt as brought out this heavy-duty, rigid table that moves easily on its casters.Once you break down and decide to purchase it you are going to wonder why you didn't have it right from the start.Mine came with a midway shelf, which doesn't appear in the picture.Working height is excellent.Assembly is pretty straightforward as well. ... You'll be blown away by the light that comes from this little unit-—it's amazing. It provides a bright swath of light so much bigger than what we expected. Seven super-bright, 100,000-hour light-emitting diodes LEDs mean you'll never have to replace a bulb. We love its ergonomic shape and how it feels in hand. Even with its included batteries loaded, it weighs just six ounces. A helmet clamp is available to affix it to your headgear. We think this is the perfect light for camping, for police and fire professionals, electricians, plumbers (because it's waterproof!), and homeowners for when the power fails.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Thought it was great, until it died
I was a huge fan of this flashlight, both because it was so bright, and because it used AA batteries, instead of the AAA that seem to be more common for LED flashlights these days, but can be harder to find when traveling in odd areas.

After having it around the house for several months, and recommending the brand to several people, I fully trusted the thing and took at as my only light on 5 week trip to rural Africa - and after just two weeks, it was dead.

The friend I was traveling with laughed, having warned me this would happen, as I stuttered in disbelief, and started a dissection using our kerosene lamp for light. Meanwhile, she sat reading a book on the other side of the hut with her nearly 2 year old LED Petzl headlamp.

Replacing the batteries, fiddling with the switch, nothing. Just dead.

Maybe it was just a fluke - or maybe they're meant for casual and not regular use. But, I've learned my lession - as of now, my loyalty is to Petzl when it comes to LED flashlights.

5-0 out of 5 stars Throw away your old flashlights!
I can't imagine why anyone would purchase an incadecent bulb flashlight after trying one of these. Compared to any other flashlight I've owned, the light is brighter and clearer than anything else. I'm thinking of buying the larger version of this flashlight in the future.

It sounds like a few people got defective units and wrote poor reviews, but I doubt very many of these are defective.

1-0 out of 5 stars What with all the hype about led flash lights.
Unless something is wrong with the one I bought from Costco, I am keeping my old one.I turned it on the fist time in my garage and thought to myself this couldn't be right, not from what I read about and expected.I checked to see if all the 7 leds are working and they seemed to be ok.I turned off the garage lights to to see how it work in the dark but was still surprised how dim it was. I compared my old traditional Ryovac with this light and the $8 Rayovac beat it by far in brighness, close up or from a distance, eventhough the leds produced whiter light.May be people bought these lights for the long hours of use and may be it needs a break-in period?Luckily I bought it from Costco and was able to return. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Ride the Pony
You can buy [less expensive] versions of this clamp...

The plastic wears off and then the metal edges show through. Then the plastic comes off and gets lost. The springs are barely passable when new.Not the Pony.

The plastic does wear off, but not until after a long time of hard use.It use them at the miter saw table all the time.Makes it easier to cope molding when it is clamped to something solid.

5-0 out of 5 stars Necessary Part of Woodworking
I use these clamps all the time. They are the best solution for the following:

    1. Holding down boards when plunging a plate joiner (biscuit joiner).

    2. Clamping two flat boards together to drill through both ofthem.

    3. Holding down a straightedge while marking a long line.

Thegreat thing about these clamps is that they go on and come off in a second,so you can hold wood down, do what you have to do, then turn the wood,re-clamp, turn again, etc. Also, unlike the "vise-style" clamps, they do not damage wood.

4-0 out of 5 stars WHY ME?
I have always used PONY spring clamps because their quality is superior to cheaper models. They have a high quality spring, fine finish and better tip pads that stay on unlike quick-grips yellow tips which come off too easily.HOWEVER loyal PONY users should check out the PONY 3-way spring clamp whichworks as a spring clamp or as an incredibly simple edge-clamp.The 3-wayedging spring also made by PONY, is a superior tool and more tool for yourmoney. ... Constructed of durable, rip-proof fabric, the new 56-pocket organizer from Bucket Boss improves on what was already a great idea. Unlike the toolboxes of old, the Bucket Boss organizer stores tools where they're visible and easy to access. And, with 38 exterior pockets and 18 more on the inside, the Bucket Boss really does have a place for just about everything. We've loaded ours down with wrenches, handsaws, screwdrivers, hammers, pry bars, pencils, utility knives, pliers, and drill bit sets. There's even a padded pocket for your cordless drill. We quickly discovered, however, that depending on how you load it, the Bucket Boss can get a little top-heavy. After ours tipped over in the back of our truck, we reloaded it with our hammerheads down, and it hasn't tipped since. We recommend the Bucket Boss 56 for remodelers, carpenters, electricians, repair people, or any other professional who brings a lot of hand tools to the job; it also makes the perfect tool kit for do-it-yourselfers moving through the house from room to room and project to project. --Jon Groebner ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Cheap and handy until you truck it around
and it dumps your kit all over the truck bed. The Bucket Boss is a handy organizer for householders and weekenders, but a stout metal toolbox (e.g: Kennedy) or canvas bag (e.g: Gatemouth) or instrument case (e.g: Platt) will be more useful for most everyday workmen.

    4-0 out of 5 stars Get a handle...it holds a lot
Great layout, plenty of pockets for everything you need for the do it yourselfer or tradesmen. I have probably 50lbs of tools in the bucket and still have room for more. One suggestion is a handle for the bucket. Take some foam (like the stuff in bicycle pads) and cut it to length then zip tie both ends and cover with duct tape. I would give it 5 stars if it had a second tape ring and a second hammer loop and a cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holds Everything I Need
No, the bucket is not included, but I had a stack of them to get rid of anyway. This thing holds just about anything I can think of, to the point that I can hardly carry it.The only suggestion I have is that some of the outside pockets could be deeper, but for under $20, what do you want? It's made of tough material as well and I expect it will last a very long time. ... Editorial Review

Move your orange clamps over and make room for Irwin. There are so many improvements on this fixture that we're just plain impressed. At the top of the list is the longer handle design that actually prevents the skinned knuckles woodworkers have come to expect. A close second is that these clamps don't need threaded pipes, an idea we applaud. The feet are bigger, and there are no downsides to that-—you get more clearance and more stability. The "double-thread design" means it takes less pressure to close on your workpiece, which means less fatigue for the user. We found the mechanism smooth and easy to operate, and if orange just isn't your color, this may be the perfect fixture for you.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

    • Innovative clutch system eliminates the need for threaded pipe

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product - ignore the bad reviews
The few negative reviews here about the clutches being installed backwards almost kept me from buying these, but I decided to give them a try anyway since intuitively it seemed that the clutches and spring must be user serviceable. They arrived a day ago and I just got some black iron pipe for them to check fit and operation, and I must say I am very impressed with these clamps. The fit is tight and precise, the screw turns easily without binding, and the sliding jaw moves easily along the pipe.Cosmetically they are much nicer than any other I have seen in stores. The clutches on mine were all installed properly -- however, had they been installed in any other manner I could have simply compressed the spring by hand, removed the clutch plates and reinstalled them in the correct orientation! No problems there (I tried it and verified that if installed upside-down they will cause the problem mentioned in previous reviews, but as I said this is easily fixed).I bought these because of the extended height of the feet, which do allow knuckle clearance when operating the hand screw. The feet seem to be wider also, making these more stable. One thing I did notice is that the entire screw length can not be used due to the handle butting up against the end of the clamp when tightened all the way (maybe an inch of unused threads) but this is trivial -- there is plenty of thread length to do the job.I bought four sets of these for some furniture building projects I am working on, and will buy more in the future! The only things this clamp does not have vs. the Rockler ones is the lip on the threaded foot for hanging on a rack, and pre-drilled holes for mounting extention blocks.I plan to take a 2x4 and cut some notches in it so I can simply slide the pipe into the notch with the threaded jaw resting on the top for easy hanging, and if I ever need to mount anything to the jaws I can drill the holes easily enough.I do like the fact that the pipe does not have to be threaded, although the pipe I bought has threads cut and it works great. If you're looking for a high-quality pipe clamp buy these!Feel free to email questions to me (just remove the "nospam" from the address).

I was really happy to see the new improved clamp design available from Irwin at a reasonable price. When I put the first one I had ordered together I could not figure where I had gone wrong, as the clamp did not sit flat on the bench top. I checked the product reviews online to find that the improper installation of the clutch plates is a pervasive issue. Very disappointing. Until I see that Irwin has addressed the issue I will look for alternative versions at Rockler.com as another user suggested, and continue using the Pony Clamps that are proven performers. ... As the evening descends on your 10-mile hike, which took just a bit longer than you anticipated because of the detour around the black bear, aren't you glad you brought the Tikka headlamp to light your trail the rest of the way? Among the most compact and lightweight headlamps in Petzl's catalog, the Tikka is not only terrific for hiking but also for close-in detail work, such as whittling carefully crafted marshmallow sticks at the campfire. The Tikka features a 150-hour burn time, gives off a very white light, and comes with an adjustable elastic strap that fits any size head or helmet. Backpackers, mountaineers, and spelunkers should all buy one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but better than most
Petzl's Tikka series lamps are hard to beat for function, price, and practicality.Sure, there are lighter weight LED-type lights out there that use watch batteries, but standard AAA batteries are much easier to come by when you're camping/trekking in out of the way places than a specific type of watch battery. The burn time is phenomenal, compared to conventional incandescent lamps, and the Zipka lamp is a very ingenious little headlamp, with its retracting strap and tiny size. They both put out a good field of usable light, and it stays bright for most of the battery life (usually 100-150 hours). As for the criticism that the Tikka line does not have a multiple intensity or flashing setting, or an adjustable angle, Petzl has introduced "Tikka Plus" and "Zipka Plus" lines which offer all of those features, though at a slightly higher price, with slightly more weight and a little bit shorter burn times. They've improved the switch too, for the plus models to allow for the multiple function settings, eliminating the original less-than-perfect slide switch, and the possibility of the lamp turning itself on by mistake.I own several lights in this series, the Tikka, the Zipka, and recently, a Zipka Plus, and I use them constantly whether bicycling, reading in my tent, hiking down a trail at night, or running tv cable in my crawlspace and have nothing but praise for each light.

    5-0 out of 5 stars great/useful light
I recently bought this light and it has been a very pleasant experience. I use it for reading late at nite and for working/fixing things around the house (it is 20 times easier to get light in the place you want it with this rather than with your wife trying to point the light at what you need it pointed at).Overall a good product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Junky switch + Great light = One Heck of a Problem
It's true (as many before me have said) that the switch is pure hell.Flickering everytime I turn it on.Sometimes the light seems very dim until I mess with the switch and realize it's just not 'contacting' well.

The problem is I LOVE the light.I'm too stupid and cheap to throw it away.So I continue on and suffer every night (since I usually use it as a reading light).

Go ahead and buy it.It's nice. It's blue and the light it great. But you've been warned about that darn switch... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great For Sound Studio Flutter Control
I have a converted garage recording studio, and a huge problem has always been echo (flutter).
These thick/textured/heavy blankets are a very inexpensive way of controlling flutter.
I currently have attached them to the walls with velcro making themportable as recording sessions warrant.
I have one in use as a "curtain" for a vocal booth as well.
Highly recommended if you are looking for this sort of thing.
    Happy recording.

2-0 out of 5 stars sandhill moving blanket quality
I purchased 2 sandhill moving blankets. My following comments would cause me not to buy them again:

    1) Because of backorder it took me almost a month to receive them.

    2) Multiple colors cause edges to not be sewed.

    3) After 2 weeks usage one blanket has stitching coming out in 2 places

5-0 out of 5 stars Sandhill 501S Quilted Moving Blankets
This is a good size ,for example,to protect dining room table tops, from stuff stored on top while in storage. The blankets are thick enough to do the job. I was happy that the blankets were stitched well, and reinforced around the edges. I'm not saying these are any fancier than what they were made for but were made well enough to hold up to that job.
I got mine because I have to lay and kneel on the garage or shop floor alot to work on lawn tractors and our cars. As I got older and after a recent serious illness, that became quite painful. The Sandhill 501S Quilted Moving Blanket makes it alot more comfortable. It also keeps clothes cleaner and tools from rolling around so much.
I'm happy with this purchase. The item is quite versatile and I can rely on it to hold up no matter what.

I bought a set of 4 ((2) 48" and (2) 24") Jorgensen K-body clamps to do cabinet doors.I compared side by side with the Bessey k-bodies and these came out ahead far enough to make my choice for me.(1) larger face area to spread the load, (2) beefier I-beam between the clamp faces to withstand more torque and pressure, (3) a removable "foot" at the end that keeps the clamp level and allows the adjustable face to slide without lifting the clamped object AND lets you take the adjustable face off and reverse it for a spreader function, (4)The price was comparable, and (5) they matched the rest of my Jorgensen F-body clamps (of which I have a bunch) so my collection stays color coordinated :-)The two draw backs I would mention are (1) they are heavy and bulky so will not always be the first you reach for on simple clamping tasks (just the ones you want really square and solid) and (2) if you back the hand screw all the way out, then slam the jaw home, it will jam shut and you may have to get a screw driver and pry the locking pawl back a bit to get the jaw to release. Not much more than an annoyance but usually happens when you are trying to clamp one handed and are holding your work with the other. This usually results in some severe mumbling while you lay everything down, unstick the clamp, then try to set it all up again (still one handed).Over all they are more than worth it and I intend to purchase more as my budget allows!

4-0 out of 5 stars Metal parts are cast metal, not very strong.
I bought two of the 48" model clamps and had one snap in a way to make the clamp useless. The part that snapped was inside the clamp side, it was made of a cast metal of some sort.It actually broke into two, plus two small fragments of metal that I found sitting on the ground under it. The clamp was holding Ok, but then I heard a pop, and found that the clamp had given up. I will be curious about the warranty on this clamp. I noticed that the adds here in Tool Crib don't mention a warranty, so I will have to get in touch with the manufacture to see if there is one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent clamping- "feet" are the best feature
I have a few Bessey K-body clamps, which until I got 8 of these Jorgensens, were the first thing I would grab. The Cabinet Masters have the advantage of that nifty "foot" at the bar end, which match the opposite fixed clamp end in depth. This makes the Cabinet Masters superior, in my opinion.I just lay the Clamp Masters on the floor, place my (usually large and cumbersome) pieces on top of the bars, slip in some scraps/cork/cauls between the pieces and the clamping surfaces, then slide the clamp towards the edge. The feet allow this to slide smoothly. With the Besseys, I have to physically lift the bar ends (and the entire weight of the assembly) in order to move the clamp mechanism. Not fun.Yes, Bessey sells a $25 "foot," which is probalby very useful. But, this is not as useful as a built-in clamp that you won't "misplace" and "do without."

The only annoyance was one clamp that became "jammed" when the slider slid all the way down, touching the fixed clamp surface.Because the knob was turned "fully loose," I could not loosen it to retract the clamp. The locking cam was basically stuck shut.I had to flip the clamp over and drop the bar end onto a 2x4 several times before it unclenched.I guess the warning is don't turn the clamping screws fully CCW or else this might happen the clamp slides shut unexpectedly. The clamp works fine still, so no harm done.

I'm buying more of these, as my last project required the use of every single 48" clamp I had!You can never have too many clamps! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ladder!!!!!
This ladder is excellant, it is very sturdy and I have never had any problems with it locking at all. I have been on it with 2 people at the same time, over 500 lbs and it is rock solid. Yes it is a little heavy, but if you want quality construction that is the price you have to pay, but it is well worth it. It is the best and most versatile ladder I have ever owned, it works well indoors, outdoors, soft ground, soild ground and on level or unlevel ground, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I had to. Definitely a good ladder!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ladder - Don't listen to complaints
All I can say is ... "What a great functional ladder that is more sturdy than any ladder I've ever used!" To get a ladder of this quality for it's current price was a steal. Someone made about the latch giving way, I think that's just made up ... or ... it was not safely locked, cause once it's locked, nothing will make it come loose unless you mean for it to come loose. If your searching for a good dependable solidly built ladder, then look no further because this is it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Flashlight Ever
I have owned this flashlight for over 20 years. It is the most dependable light ever.It was given to my dad from the police chief of our city.I now live in his house and it hangs on the wall next to the door always charged and ready. If there is ever a blackout, you know right where it is and you know it is ready. We all reach for it several times a day.I just bought a new one to put at my other door.It is dependable and sturdy and can be used as a weapon if needed.Best light I have ever owned. You will wonder how you ever got along without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE light!!!
I have been a home inspector for 19 years.About 14 years ago, I bought a mag rechargeable. In all of those years of crawling under hundreds of houses, banging that light against rocks, floor joists, and in one case, an agitated field RAT, this thing has NEVER failed me.
I am looking at buying a second one, and only my FOURTH battery after ALL of those years!!! One of the reasons for buying another one is that the switch finally failed, and I REFUSE to use a 'lesser' light while I am having this one repaired. The times that I have had to use my backup regular flashlight (a pretty decent rayovac roughneck), it has been like being 'blind' under a house! The pure BRIGHTNESS is amazing! The spot focus on this light is very precise, though I have found that some bulbs focus better than others.
These things are also TOUGH...I have dropped mine a couple of DOZEN times onto concrete and asphalt (yep!!! I am clumsy!)And that WILL sometimes kill a bulb..But the flashlight is almost indestructible! If you could just SEE how battered and scarred this thing IS, you wouldn't believe it still works!
You will NOT be disappointed in this flashlight! It is the BEST investment that I have made in equipment EVER!!!
    ENJOY!

5-0 out of 5 stars Safety for Women
This will be the second one I've owned. The first one I had for 10 years and left on a bus, by accident. It is the best deterrent one could hope for. When your carrying it like a cop with your hand at the lamp ready to flash it in someones face to stun them with the light, pop them on the forehead to get their attention, or knock them to the ground using it like a baseball bat.Men look at you very differently, a bit scared and not cat calling and blowing you kisses. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Generator (update)
During the hurricane Charley power outage my neighbor was kind enough to run an extension cord from his generator over to my house and saved all my food. The day we got power back I ordered the 9777 from Amazon with super saver shipping and $25 off promotion.Four days after I received it Hurricane Frances slammed the Florida East coast HARD.This little generator saved our bacon for three days while we were without power. The best thing I can say about it, and the reason I bought this item, is the fantastic fuel economy.I was getting between 3 and 5 hours per gallon while powering a freezer, refrigerator, fans, lights, television, coffee pot and using the built in 12 volt charging function. This compares to my neighbor with his gallon per hour usage. It started up every time with one or two pulls, has pressurized lubrication, an idle function switch and a built in 12 volt charger.I do agree with others that the little foot on the front of the unit could be beefier but still give it 5 stars because of the miserly fuel consumption.Do not underestimate this fact when looking for generators since gas was not available down here in Florida for several days after the hurricane passed.

After this was written Hurricane Jeanne hit us several weeks later.Again, this little generator ran flawlessly for several days powering all of the above plus the window air conditioner (Panasonic, see separate review) that I had purchased for just such an occasion.Fuel consumption was the same and all my neighbors with thier 5500 Watt overkill units were sure jealous of that.I still heartily recommend this generator.

3-0 out of 5 stars faulty oil pressure switch
WE bought this generator as a emergency power unit about 3 yrs ago.we have run it for a total of maybe 40 hours.the last time we used it,itran for 1hr. then shut down. would start right back then do it again. unit is full of oil.unpluged oil pressure switch now it will run. this unit is not very quiet but still quieter than some coleman generators.factory should include extra switch and symptoms of this problem in manual.

5-0 out of 5 stars Commercial Grade
I recently purchased my Generac 4000 EXL for my RV. ( Also for my home, in the event of rolling power black-outs.The product is very sound in design with big generator features at a economical price.I especially like the pressurized oil system for the engine as it will extend the life of the engine. The electric start is a "must have" for a portable generator. (even more so for a RV)The automatic idle control is great and helps with noise control. (The unit tends to be a little noisy when under a heavy load.) The generator is compact and can easily be stored in the RV.
I have found the generator to be able to handle all my power needs. Even when the AC unit is turned on the Generac 4000 handles the power needs without problems.
    One note:
I did purshase a three year service contract on the unit just to take care of any problems. So far I have had no problems with the unit.
I highly recommend this generator... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Mortgage Qualifying
For merely calculating the monthly payment for a given loan amount, interest rate, and term, there are cheaper calculators that will do as well, although with one or two added keystrokes. But if you are a loan originator who needs to qualify borrowers and know what the front and back end ratios are, this calculator is simpler to use than the HP models I've seen. You can also store tax and insurance rates for quick p.i.t.i. calculations. This is a great little calculator at a reasonable price. It's the best kept secret in the mortgage industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars nice clamps
I read the reviews on these clamps &there were several comments about the clamps breaking so I emailed Jorgensen & asked them is this true & what have you done to correct the situation. Their response was the early versions had cast aluminum heads to save weight & that they had switched to steel because the aluminum wasn't holding up. I've owned several of these for about a year now, none of which are made with aluminum, and haven't had a single problem. The issue with the clamps sticking together when closed can be resolved by backing the handle all the way out, pulling the handle straight up away from the bar & then pulling back. As is true with all clamps they aren't perfect for every situation. But these are the first clamps I reach for because they're so versatile & so easy to use. I own a lot of clamps & I'm a Jorgensen man. I have a few Besseys & they get used last. I don't think they're bad clamps I just prefer Jorgies. I do however think Jorgensen should have done a much better R & D job on the Cabinet Masters & quite frankly they flat out failed in this area. I expect better then that from an American institution. There was a time when Made in America was a good thing & Made in Japan, China or Taiwan wasn't. I hope Jorgensen will continue to be Made in America & more importantly I hope they've learned from their mistakes. I find these reviews very helpful & would like to thank the people who write them & I encourage anyone with an opinion on a product to put it in writing. Also Lee Valley has the best prices on Cabinet Masters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Clamps
I bought these two years ago for making some doors. I had always used pipe clamps for glue my doors before this, and had some problems with them not laying flat.

These clamps solved that problem. They are now the clamps I use first. I like that they are reversable, and have used them to support and adjust upper cabinets while they are being installed.

On some of the other sizes of this clamp there are some negative reviews about the quality, and also about receiving clamps stuck together with no way to open the jaws. I haven't had any problems with the quality, but 2 of the clamps did come stuck together. I was able to unlock them by taking a screw driver and levering the locking mechanism, no problem since.

I have never tried a bessey clamp, so I can't compare them, but these are great clamps. Hope to get some more in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Meet the new boss....
I own two of the Bessey K-body clamps at this same size (well, close - the 31" clamps) and would have rated them five stars. But I decided to give these clamps a try, and now the Besseys, though still excellent clamps, drop to four stars and the Jorgensens get a solid five. They have all the benefits of the K-body clamps, with some clever improvements. There is a very nicely designed clip at the end of the bar which can be removed to allow the movable jaw to be reversed to turn the clamp into a spreader. The clip also does double duty - it is the same height as the two jaws, so it stabilizes the end of the bar when the two jaws are close together (i. e., when you are clamping something small). With the Besseys, if you set the clamp on the floor and move the jaws close together, the unsupported end causes the clamp to tilt - the clip on the Jorgensens eliminates this minor annoyance. The jaw faces are considerably larger - this is a small advantage in length, but the extra width is really useful. You can lay the clamps on their side and still have useful clamping depth - not a lot, granted, but useful if you only need to clamp 3/4" or so, in which case you can put pressure on a much longer area. This would help in edge joining boards, for example. And the larger handle is more comfortable.
Jorgensen has the K-bodies beat in pretty much every feature. The Besseys are still most excellent clamps - I'm certainly not getting rid of mine, but my future purchases will be the Jorgensens.By the way, these comments are specifically about the 24" and 30" clamps that I actually own and have used, but I don't see why they wouldn't also be true of the other lengths. ... Since it tips the scales at just 66 pounds, it’s incredible that this little unit can output 2,800 watts. Not only that, but it’s a good deal quieter than other generators in its class. The inverter system with Pulse Width Modulation delivers such a stable voltage that you can run products with built-in microcomputers or microcomputer-controlled electric tools off this generator. A nice innovation is the "Economy Control" electrical governor: It matches engine speed to the electrical demand, so if you’re camping and just running a CD player, the engine downshifts to supply that much power, again reducing noise to about 60 decibels. Plug in something else, and power increases accordingly. Another nice feature is the Oil Watch warning system that shuts the unit down before the oil is low, and won't let you restart until oil is added. Because it’s light, compact, and quieter, this is the ideal generator to keep on hand at home for power outages and a smart buy for the job site, too.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just don't get it.
You know what, I just don't get it.Why on earth would anyone spend over a thousand dollars on something without really knowing what they were getting.

You have the first reviewer that complained about not being informed about the need for a transfer switch.Well, I hate to say it, but you don't NEED a transfer switch. You only need a transfer switch if you want to connect it to your home's breaker panel. You must do that regardless of generator in order to meet the latest code standards. You could just as easily run extension cords. They also mentioned about not knowing the NEMA code for the locking plug.Off the top of my head, I believe I was told it was a NEMA L5-30.Funny, I was able to get the information.A quick call to Yamaha would have answered the question.

Then you have the person that complained about the generator not being 240V.First, no where do the specs read that it outputs 240V; it only specifies 120V.Second, the NEMA L5-30 is only for 120V up to a maximum of 30 amps.Third, you could always hardwire a cable from the transfer switch to a male plug for the generator. That's just one solution . . . there are others.Fourth, I clearly read on the website that Amazon would not accept returns.

I would agree that providing a manual online would be nice, but dinging Amazon or Yamaha for an individual's failure to adequately research a purchase is not the fault of Amazon or Yamaha.I called Yamaha with questions and they gladly answered.

All I'm saying is be fair with your review.

1-0 out of 5 stars UPSET WITH AMAZON
I was not familiar with generators and read all the specifications and technical information on Amazon. I also went to the Yamaha web site. I knew that I needed a transfer box (which was built into my house). After receiving the generator in record time, I had my electrician try to install it. It WAS THE WRONG Voltage 115 vs 220. I called Amazon and was told that I could not return it. No where on the description web site does it tell you that you can't return or exchange it for the proper unit. Amazon needs to place in big print CANNOT BE RETURNED. The product never left the box. I am very unhappy about this and now have a $1400 boat anchor.

3-0 out of 5 stars The generator specs and looks are fine, but....
No where in Amazon's presentation of this item is the fact that you will need an "isolation switch," also called a "transfer switch" at some stores. This is a [$$] item that allows you to switch off the electric power line from your utility company while you are using the generator to feed power to your home. This protects utility workers from electrocution that could occur if you backfeed electricity into the power grid.It protects your home circuits and appliances from overload when the utility power comes back on.Neither Amazon nor Yamaha mentions the fact that the Yamaha generator requires a particular locking plug for the AC output, and does not provide the NEMA number that you have to match when buying the power cord taking power out of the Yamaha to your home's electrical supply input.Yamaha's manual is ridiculously inadequate about how to set up this device, though the details for maintenance and safety seem pretty thorough. But you have to be able to use it, and using it requires a frustrating process just to know what parts to buy.And then there's the cost of an electrician to install the isolation switch. No plug-'n-play here. ...
