Watch-out for similar products (non-Maglite)
MAGLITE model#LM2A001 2-Cell AA is an excellent match for your mini Maglite Flashlight. Watch out for products claiming to work such as Rayovac 2-T1AAA they are suppose to be compatible with both the double A and triple A configuration. Guesse what... they burn out quickly!

Well worth the price
Like a lot of people who will be looking at this light, I am a long time user of Mag lights. They are bull tough and well made.Well, this light is made even better, and the handle section offers a much more positive grip than a Mag (it even has a lanyard on the end). The Xenon light is brighter than my Mag of equivalent batteries - it does not, however, have near the range of focus that a Mag does.That isn't a huge problem as any 2 D cell is better used for fairly close work anyway.Leave the long distance spot for the 6 cell. There is plenty of light for lighting up a trail or barn. The Xenon will light up reflective trail markers for at least 200 feet, much further than you're likely to be able to see through brush or trees.

As far as the LED portion of the light goes, I am very pleased.The switch has three lighting positions - 5 LED, 10 LED, and the Xenon, in that order.Under fifteen feet or so, there isn't much brightness difference noticeable between the 5 and the 10, but you can really see a change past that.On ten LEDs, the light is useful up to about 40 feet, more if you happen to be in a cave.Most of the time, I just use the 5 LEDs as I generally only need something for under 15 feet.This light will be great for catfishing - switch it to 5 LEDs and just leave it on so it's handy and doesn't get lost on the ground.And 5 LEDs are all you'll need to walk the most darkened trail.Battery life is long enough not to worry about running them down when using the LEDs.

One little problem I have is with the lanyard.It's attached with a split ring to a permanently attached point on the base.It is not very stable to stand on end with the lanyard in place - it will do it, just tip easy.However, you can remove the lanyard from the ring and reinstall differently to make it easier to remove.During a power failure, it's nice to have a flashlight that can be stood up on its end.This one doesn't have the Mag's candle feature, but with ten LEDs bouncing off a white ceiling, it will give good emergency lighting for a room or used in a tent.Of course, the lanyard also gives you the ability to hang it overhead, which is difficult with a Mag.

All in all, this is a worthwhile step up from a 2 D Mag, even at twice the price.

Great flashlight, some minor problems
I bought this flashlight in November of 2003. My intention was to purchase a high quality flashlight that would last a long time and I believe the Streamlight fits my requirements nicely. The construction is patterned after Mag-Lite's series of flashlights and is very solid. I have not been able to scratch the anodized casing.

The LEDs are very bright and can be turned on 5 at a time or all 10 at a time. Usually, 5 is enough for anything I need to do. The xenon-bulb is unfortunately not particularly bright. It's comparable to a Mag-Lite but not to some of the other high-power lithium-battery flashlights that you can buy. There is a rotating lens that can focus the beam but it only really works for the xenon bulb. For the LEDs, the lens only changes the beam from reasonably concentrated to very diffuse.

I love this one. The Xenon bulb is not particularly effective, the flashlight is heavy,
and you need up to 3 clicks to turn it on/off. I still love it. It is so much
fun walking home from work [3 miles] in dark winter nights. I used
it all winter with the same batteries, the Xenon bulb is barely visible, but
the LEDs keep going. It's not only fun-fun-fun, but if I were ever attacked,
I am sure it would be as effective to defend myself as an uzi if not better.

I have the "titanium" version and it looks like a piece of [industrial] art.
It is superbly made. I had one minor problem with it and customer support

Great flashlight, just as described, but not a SureFire
If you've ever used a SureFire, you'd know they're superior. Don't be fooled by the Lumen and Candlepower measurements; it's different for every manufacturer. The military uses SureFire, not Streamlight, so SureFire's measurements need to be more accurate. Side by side there is no comparison.

Nonetheless, this Streamlight is very bright in Xenon mode, and surprisingly bright in LED mode. It's no spotlight, but it's suitable for most normal tasks. Also, the lower price, selection between LED and Xenon, longer runtime, and adjustable beam definitely make it worth having at least one of these. Keep one in your glove compartment! Ladies, keep one in your purse! Possibly bright enough to stun an attacker, but I'd rather have a SureFire for that.

Seems very rugged and well made. A little bigger than I expected, but not that much. Also, one thing that's not specified is how the flashlight switches between LED and Xenon--using the same button, it switches On(LED)->Off->On(Xenon)->Off and repeat. Also, the "momentary signal" feature (pressing the switch slightly, but not all the way) is opposite of Mag Lite; it only lets you turn it OFF momentarily while the light is ON. However, this flashlight is simply way better and brighter than any Mag Lite (unless you want a giant club for safety).

Finally, even though the "Titanium" colored one (51015) looks black in the pictues, it's completely silver colored. Very light silver color at that.

Best Value For Dual Xenon & LED
It's not the Best in each class but the Best of the Twin-Mode task lights in the below $30 Class ! I second the opinions of other reviewers and add these observations: 1- Exceptionally high quality build & finish in it's price class 2- It stands on it's end for 'Ceiling-bounce' lighting as well as symetrical 'hang-ability' thanks to a nice lanyard. Just for fun, I sometimes brush my teeth at night with just the Streamlight 51005 TT-2L on &in LED mode- making it an ideal emergency and camping light. 3- For inspection of darker spaces or for longer distances at night(20 Meters / 60 feet) , the Xenon Mode is Very Very good 4- An excellent value for Soldier or Civilian 5-It fits nicely in a headband strap for middle-weight hands free lighting. Small Negative Complaints include: Annoying Mode switch requires that you step through from 'Off' to (Next Mode). A nice improvement would be to seperate On/Off from Mode -for a set once, use often-prefered mode setting.A narrower focusing head and stochastic reflector would make this an unbeatable all -around task light. Titanium construction would cut weight by 30%

Awesome, One Of The Best Flashlights Out There
This Streamlight Flashlight has 72 lumens(little over 43,000 candle power)of brightness, Last 2.5 hours with full brightness and 28 hours with the 3 LEDs when Surefire flashlights come with 65 lumens(39,000 candle power) of brightness, 1 hour of use and no optional LEDs(and never will, streamlight has a patent on there dual LED/xenon flashlights). The price is also great for this flashlight and much cheaper than Surefire. I use this flashlight for everything, I just gave one to my nephew for his birthday, he is an Explorer for San Fernando P.D. and he loved it, especially the two choices of brightness for different situations. The only thing that is true about this great flashlight is the adjustable beam does not work that good but the light does not even need adjusting it is perfect the way it is. Surefire does not even offer this feature but both lights have the same style light beam. I also own a Streamlight rechargeable Ultra Stinger and I could not be more happier with this flashlight, it has 75,000 candle power(the power of this light is incredible) and a adjustable floodlight that does work very well. I think Surefire flashlights are a little over rated for the price they charge. If you want a good quality flashlight that is just as good as Surefire if not better than get a Streamlight for half or more off the price than a Surefire.

Bad, bad little big lamp.
I didn't expect much of this lamp when I bought it, but it surprised me by failing more miserably than I thought it would. Like any tall, free-standing object that's been shoddily built, the poles don't fit together correctly and the lamp leans crooked, almost to the point of falling over. I had to stick a wooden dowel through the center and duct tape the joints just to make it stand up properly.

I have seen the fire that a halogen light can create (literally exploding upon touching the floor) if it were to fall over, and let me just say that it's not worth the risk. This thing almost falls over WITHOUT assistance from a human, pet or gust of air. If you were to buy this lamp, I'd suggest putting earthquake-proofing on it.

This lamp's only saving grace is the amount of light it produces. It sheds just enough light to be productive, but not blind you, and leaves a touch of ambiance instead of that harsh, in-the-spotlight feeling that halogen lamps often have.

Perhaps it was just the one that I purchased, or maybe I assembled it wrong (is that possible?) but I would say don't waste your money on this fire hazard. I've since gotten rid of it in favor of a $25 GE lamp, which to this day (it's been three years) has stood just as sturdy and rigid as the day I put it up.

Very bright- but please beware of fire possible fire danger
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the halogen lamp industry are cooperatively recalling for in-home consumer repair some 40 million halogen torchiere floor lamps.

According to CPSC, the halogen bulbs in these lamps can cause fires. CPSC is aware of at least 189 fires and 11 deaths since 1992 involving halogen torchiere floor lamps. The industry is making free wire guards available to consumers through a cooperative effort with many retail stores.

Installing the wire guard over the glass bulb shield will reduce the potential fire hazard by making it harder for flammable materials to touch the lamp's halogen bulb. For the guard to be effective, consumers must use only halogen bulbs of 300 watts or less in the lamp.

Halogen torchiere floor lamps are free-standing lamps with a shallow bowl-shaped light fixture mounted on top of a 6-foot pole and illuminated by a tubular halogen bulb. These lamps first became available in the United States in 1983 and sales have grown significantly in the 1990s. The tubular halogen bulbs operate at temperatures much hotter than regular bulbs, and can pose a fire risk if curtains, clothing, or other flammable materials contact the bulb.

A revised Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standard for halogen torchiere floor lamps manufactured after February 5, 1997, offers an improved level of safety. Most halogen torchiere floor lamps meeting the revised UL standard already are equipped with a glass or wire guard over the glass bulb shield to help prevent flammable materials from touching the bulb.

Consumers who own halogen torchiere floor lamps without a glass or wire guard over the glass bulb shield can receive a free wire guard with installation instructions by calling (800) 523-5702 extension 592 or sending postcard to Attention Consumer Services, 18191 NW 68th Avenue, Miami, FL 33015. This program only applies to torchiere floor lamps using halogen bulbs. Remember, for the guard to be effective, consumers must use only halogen bulbs of 300 watts or less in the lamp.

"Although the use of the wire guard with a 300-watt bulb will reduce the potential fire hazard, it is important for consumers to understand that these lamps still must be treated with care," said CPSC Chairman Ann Brown. Brown offered the following safety tips for halogen torchiere floor lamps:

Never place the lamp near curtains or other cloth window treatments.
Never drape clothes over the lamp.
Keep the lamp away from bedding.
Never leave the lamp on when you leave a room or are not at home.
To reduce the likelihood of tipover, keep children and pets away from the lamp.
Only use a halogen bulb of 300 watts or less in the lamp.
In 1996, CPSC initiated an assessment of the current UL safety standard for portable lamps, including lamps equipped with tubular halogen bulbs. Tests carried out as part of this assessment showed that tubular halogen bulbs of 250 watts, 300 watts, and 500 watts installed in torchiere lamps could start a fire if they come in contact with flammable materials. In July 1996, CPSC announced its findings and issued a warning to consumers about the potential fire hazard associated with using torchiere floor lamps illuminated by tubular halogen bulbs. In the same month, CPSC urged UL to toughen its performance standard for portable lamps. In February 1997, UL adopted a revised performance standard for halogen torchiere floor lamps.

This product works great!
I've had one of these from this company for years. It's great! You can touch any sort of lighting with any part made of metal or just the power cord and it turns it into a touch lamp!

On top of that it acts as a three-way light! Even if it's just a regular incandecent bulb.

I'd recommend this to anyone. It would also make a great gift for any of your friends and family who are elderly and have trouble getting their hands under the lamp shade to turn the switch or those who have nervous disorders that make their hands shake. Super little caving light
Having had numerous flashlights for my caving adventures, I can say this is a great little light. Not powerful little fellow. I have had 3 of these and they can clip to pretty much anything, keychains, purses, backpacks and helmets. I have had mine clipped to my helmet so I had one in easy reach whenmy other 'bigger' lights were hooked to my camos and are submerged in water or mud. These do not like water, but do not say water, something I should have known, my bad! My only complaint and reason for 4 stars is that the clips are made of plastic, heavy duty, but still plastic.I have given 3 as gifts, great card stuffers, and each person still has theirs in working condition.So maybe I am harsh on mine, they do get bumped in the caves.I do plan to buy more, so the plastic issue is not that bad.These are great for any purpose, enjoy.

Poor performer underwater/ NOT shock resistant
I bought one of these lights to work underwater and the seals failed filling the battery compartment with water. Streamlight replaced it, but when dropped from 4 feet to a carpeted floor it failed..replacement LED is 37.95 with shipping and replacement Streamlight 3C LED can be had for $39.00 so...I am tossing the Streamlight 3C LED in trash can and taking the loss...Sorry, but this item is not reliable, durable, or dependable..such a surprise for a company with such a good rep

This thing puts out an amazing amount of light and the batteries last forever.I keep one in the trunk of every car I own (3).

Everything said about this flashlight is spot on except for the fact that after using underwater in less than 10 feet, the battery compartment leaked and the batteries turned to rusted mush. So much for the claims of being waterproof!!! Otherwise a really nice flashlight but not the rugged competitor it claims to be...

Not quite the classic everybody makes it out to be.
Yeah, yeah.Everybody buys these Mini Maglites.Everybody says they're the benchmark, but I disagree, having owned one a number of years and having had time to document it's failings.For one thing, mine simply quit working recently, and when I visited the Maglite website, I learned that returning it under the warranty would cost more in shipping than it would cost to buy a new flashlight.How irritating.My solution was to toss the thing in the trash, and what a pity, as the quality of construction is quite good, notwithstanding the broken switch.But that brings me to my second point: the switch.This is the twist-on/off kind.Do you tend to carry a flashlight in your pack?In your pocket?Then avoid this model.The jostling that occurs during routine movement tend to turn the light on, a bit of a hassle when you're in the middle of nowhere only to find your light has turned itself on and exhausted the batteries.Now if only the manufacturer would adopt the same kind of push-button switch as on the larger models, and perhaps change the bulb to LEDs, then this model would be perfect rather than merely dated.A better bet is to pick up one or two cheap plastic Rayovacs at the hardware or discount store--better switch, comparable durability.

When buying a flashlight, check out the Mini Mag first!
I have had a 2AA cell Mini Maglite for several years now. Through this time, I have dropped it a lot, but each time, the only damage is scratches. It is so durable that you can just throw it on the ground purposely and it will not be obliterated! The holster is a nice addition so that you can have easy acces when you are in a tight situation.
The candle feature is very useful, especially for camping (or night reading). Also, it is water proof! I never have to worry while using it in the rain.
Overall, this product is very useful. With its size and capabilities, it prooves worthy to be owned by anyone, no matter what there job is. Note: Another good Mag product is the 4D cell light.

Universal Light
The first one I had was black, just like Model-T. Being dark and inside my dark overalls pocket, I forgot about it until it fell. It fell couple more times since. It is still working. It is a good size to go inside the tool box permanently. The size is also small enough to go inside where only your hand can reach. Sometimes in my line of work in seismic oil exploration I need to do come cabling, the Mini helps to get the connection right.

Bought a few more Mag lights since the first one, seeing as it is tough and rain proof. But when I travel it is the Mini that comes along instead of the Mag Solitaire because the AA size batteries is the most universally available battery you can find in most countries.

Torch (flashlight to you guys in US) is like penknives, tend to need it in an emergency. So one lives with the Leatherman, one in the car glove box, the old one still in the tool box.

Yeah, I have held the torch in my lips too in the past but now recommend a headband by Nite Ize to turn it into a headlamp. Another item worth considering if you go hiking a lot is the Nite Ize "Pock-its". This is a holster for Mini Mag Light and Leatherman, spare batteries. ... Read more
