Granted, if you're into home repair, you've got a 25-foot steel tape in your toolbox. But how many times have you grumbled at it when it didn't stay rigid from across the room? Tapes have their purpose, but for estimated measurements of up to 50 feet, the Laser Tape is the way to go. Just point, press "read", and the distance is displayed in feet and inches or metric. It's simple to use and would be perfect for the homeowner trying to calculate how many gallons of paint to buy, how much vinyl flooring to get or even how much fertilizer to buy, provided you've got walls round your yard to bounce the laser off. It is, we must say, a little finicky, and it works best on monochromatic sold surfaces, but once you get the hang of it, it's a handy little tool.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars handy as laser POINTER, absolutely useless as laser TAPE
...this is a good example of "you get what you pay for," I suppose.

This alleged "laser tape" actually uses a sound wave to take its measurement, the laser beam is there mainly for underhanded marketing purposes to mislead you into thinking that you're buying far more advanced technology than you're really getting.

Of course, sonar is notoriously unreliable for this sort of application, and therefore it is hardly surprising that it delivers kinda-sorta accurate rough measurements in all of maybe 3 out of 10 tries. All sorts of environmental factors can easily throw it off: the color, texture, and shape of the object you are pointing it at (flat 90 degree white walls seem to enjoy about 60% efficacy, the highest I ever got with it), exterior noise conditions, how much open space there is around you, etc.

Really the only thing this sonar tape really does well is serve as a bulky, clunky and noisy (it makes a clicking sound during operation, which I wish I could disable) laser pointer---the 9V battery does last a bit longer than the tiny little watch battery that most pen-size laser pointers use.

Thank God the home improvement warehouse I bought it at has a great return policy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not accurate
I am giving it two stars because it may be useful for rough estimates. However, it is a disappointment.I got it on sale (close-out, I think) and for interior walls it consistently reads about 5 inches longer than the actual dimension (properly measuring from base.I am sure I will occasionally bring it out of the toolbox for a quick rough measure, but that is about it.I'd return it if I could.

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I received this as a gift and for my line of work, it works OK.
Don't expect exact accuracy, that's not what it is for. It is very good for me on estimates. Sure I get some obvious errors, but if you read the maunal, you will see that most are addressed there. Why would anyone use this to get measurements for cutting trim..??? That is what a tape is for. ... Read more

If only this had been in our toolbox a year ago when westruggled to install a suspended ceiling in the basement. This littleguy puts out an actual laser line vertically, horizontally, or at anyangle. It's wonderfully simple and dead-on accurate. Just position thealignment notch with the guidance of the dual bubble levels, push thetabs to anchor the self-retracting pushpins, and raise the lens coverfor hands-free accuracy. The recessed rubber grip offers sure handling, but this tool also sports an impact-resistant body, just in case.Hardly bigger than a 25-foot measuring tape, this tool will tuck nicelyinto any toolbox and serve decorators, builders, remodelers, anddo-it-yourselfers equally well. It doesn't come with batteries, so havetwo AAs on hand. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Necessity for the Female toolbox.
Hanging pictures and shelves use to cause friction between my husband and me. Now I do not have to ask for help. The Laser Level is a must have for the ladies toolbox........

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk
I bought this thing from a local home improvement store thinking it would be handy to use for hanging items on the wall and providing layout lines for flooring, etc.Wrong! The retractable pins that are supposed to hold it to a wall or ceiling or whatever, retract continuously and it won't stay in place. The laser line is practically invisible so it was of no use even if I had a project where I could just set it on the floor. It does seem to be fairly impact resistant proven by the number of times the pins retracted and it fell off the wall plus throwing it across the room out of frustration didn't seem to hurt it.However, it was a piece of junk before I threw it and it's still a piece of junk.I don't even know where it is anymore and I don't care.

Hang new kitchen cabinets, tile the bathroom wall, install a border in the baby's room, add shelving to your home office--the Black & Decker BullsEye laser line generator and stud finder is the tool for the job. In fact, the BullsEye is two tools in one. The built-in stud finder works at depths up to 3/4 inches and provides both an LED and alarm indicator to signal when you've reached the edge of a stud. Once you locate the studs in the wall you're working with, you can then hang the BullsEye at the appropriate height using either the included drywall pushpin (for drywall surfaces) or the keyhole insert with a standard screw or nail (for all other surfaces). Activate the self-leveling laser lines, and the built-in pendulum levels the unit automatically. Depending on the light conditions in your work area, the laser lights should be visible up to 10 feet in either direction. No more chalk lines or straight edges. Just a clean, accurate guide for where to place your fasteners. The included target cones are effective up to 50 feet in either direction of the unit, providing an overall work surface of up to 100 feet in length. The BullsEye works best indoors and is intended for the home enthusiast. Professionals will likely want something a bit more versatile (the BullsEye works only on a true horizontal axis, so it can't determine plumb or set a straight line at any other angle).--Carl Thress ... 5-0 out of 5 stars How did we live without this?
This tool is WONDERFUL.It's the best stud-finder we've ever used.It actually is accurate!I just used the laser level to hang borders in three rooms, and the job went a whole lot faster and smoother than I anticipated.Worth the investment!

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy, but not super accurate
This is a really good product idea, but unfortunately mine didn't live up to expectations. My laser level is about an inch out of level over 10 feet. That's probably within building specs, but I figured a product packing a laserbeam would be a lot more accurate.

I have some walls that are 20 feet long. I'd hoped to put this level on the wall and hang a bunch of pictures along a level line, but I can see the few inches of error when I look for it, and that'd drive me nuts.

I only use it for jobs that my spirit level can't span, but that are still under about 10 feet. Anything bigger and I get the chalk line out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool
I love this tool. We built a new house and I used it for hanging curtain rods, verticla blinds, pictures and shelves. Our wall decorations look organized and very stylish. I like the fact that you can mark on the adjacent wall.

We have these shelves for my kids room that are beautiful but are a total nightmare to hang. It took me 3 tries at our previous house to hang them because there is no room for variance. I hung them in 1 try using this tool.

I have read other reviews where people complain about the holes left when hanging the device and it's nonsense. It really is a pin sized hole.

This is the best tool I have purchsed in 10 years because it saves me so much time when doing projects. ... Read more

Stabila's earned the right to boast, "Always Trust, Never Adjust." They're known for accuracy and dependability. Stabila guarantees that every one of their levels has been electronically calibrated and inspected and has received a certification of accuracy. The vial system, permanently epoxy-locked in the frame by a patented process, is the clearest and easiest to read of any level we've seen. Everything about these levels is quality, from the removable rubber end caps for flush measuring to the big, comfortable hand holds. But what matters most is accuracy, and these are dead-on every time. The vial fluid stays true even in wild temperatures, from -5°F to 165°F. It's German technology that's been in the works for more than a century, and it's paid off with the best for Stabila and its customers.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Bomb
If you can still get this deal. Go for it. I use these levels for everything. I've dropped them and they're fine. If lent them to people I shouldn't have, and they are fine. Just make sure you get an extra set of endcaps. They fall out and get lost every fre years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I expected and more!
Rock solid construction certified accurate to within .029 degrees. I just got my package delivered to the worksite where I am installing a raised deck for a new bathroom. Within 20 minutes the deck was leveled. Let me tell you, not having to flip a cheap level over and then over again end to end three times to verify accuracy was a huge time saver. Add to that the confidence of knowing without a doubt that what you see is really what you got. I shaved at least 45 minutes to an hour off my morning. Every vial is clearly readable. The box beam construction is machined to an exacting true parallel. I am so happy I forked over the few extra dollars it took to get this set. I plan to replace my torpedo and 24" levels with Stabila's next.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best just got Better
If you have Stabila Levels you know they are the best. This new set from Stabila is even better. This is the new frame design and it has a frame about 1/4" wider than the regular frame. The hand holes are really nice, comfortable in your hand. The end caps are nicer, removable and are rubber. It also has a metal hang hole so you can hang this nice level on a nail rather than lean it against the wall for the painter to kick over.I have this set, and I didn't think Stabila could make a better level than the ones I already have, but this new series is better than the best! ... Strait-Line's awesome Laser Level had, in our book, just one flaw: Its gripping pins left indentations on some surfaces, such as wallpaper, wallboard and pine. Enter the Swivel Base, and Strait-Line has quite possibly the perfect leveling tool. The base attaches simply and quickly, and the two-axis adjustment allows for tuning the laser once the base is mounted. Because of 3M's ingenious Command Adhesive technology, it will stick to any surface and—the best part—come off cleanly. Hang pictures or shelves, wallpaper, wood trim, cabinetry, and leave no damage behind. Strait-Line's patent-pending base swivels a complete 360 degrees to accommodate any conceivable application, The Command Adhesive strips come in replacement packages of 24. If you own Strait-Line's Laser Level, this Swivel Base is truly a must-have.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

    3-0 out of 5 stars It's Alright....
I use this accessory on a daily basis. The adhesive tends to loose its holding power after a couple minutes and the level starts falling towards the floor. At least I can hear it beginning to separate and have time to run over and push it back onto the wall or take it down.I was hoping the adhesive strips would hold better, but at least they don't leave any marks on the walls.

    Was it worth it?YES.
Buy it again?Yes, because I have no choice.
Satisfied? Not really, but I can't leave holes in my customers walls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Add-On for the Laser Level!!
This is a great addition to the Laser Level by Strait-line!It just snaps easily on to the laser level, then uses sticky strips to adhere to the wall so you don't have to worry about poking holes in the wall anymore! The stickies are easily replaceable too, you can buy them in packs of 24 (and it takes me a little while to go through 24 of the buggers!).

5-0 out of 5 stars Your wallpaper's new best friend.
If you've enjoyed the new Strait-Line laser as much as I have, you're having too much fun. But of course every time you use the laser, it embeds its tiny little pins into the wall, leaving a couple of tiny holes. If you remember what you paid for that wallpaper, you might just grimace a bit at thinking you've perforated it.
Along comes this little swivel attachment and all of a sudden you can mount your laser level any which way you like with some easily replaceable stick-on strips that won't mar any finish and won't punch tiny holes in your walls. You could say it's a nice touch. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Bosch has really broken ahead of the pack with their new miter finder/digital protractor/angle finder. The handiest thing, in our opinion, you can do with this tool is calculate miter and bevel angles for crown molding cuts easily and efficiently--using the molding spring angle and the corner angle as your input. It's also great for remodelers who often need to cut trim at odd angles to achieve a good fit. The tool's digital display is large and easy to read, and there's also a hold function that freezes the measurement. The finder also has an old-school leveler, so you know you're operating in pure horizontal reality. Plus, it fits lightly in your hand. Really, this is a very cool and unique tool, one we think finish carpenters and remodelers will find invaluable in their quest for quick, perfect fits. --Michael Shilling ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My angle finder is precise!
I hadn't been able to perfectly square-up my 12" radial arm saw until I bought the Bosch DWM40L Miter Finder Digital Protractor/Angle Finder.Using a large square, or my other protractor tools, the blade appeared to be at a perfect right angle to the fence, but cuts were ever so slighly off-square.Placing one edge of this tool on the 12" blade and the other on the left side of saw fence, it read 89.7 degrees.Placing it on the blade and the right side of the fence, it read 90.3 degrees -- the perfect complement of the first reading. After a good bit of adjusting on the saw, I was finally able to get a 90.0 reading on both sides. Now, the radial arm saw cuts accurate right angles.I used this tool to "perfectly" set right angles on several tools, and have used it sucessfully in construction projects to precisely match angles.

I agree with another reviewer that said the tool should have a locking mechinism to hold the desired angle. However, since the angle is clearly displayed on the LED readout, it's not difficult to adjust the tool to whatever angle you want if it changes.

This tool a huge technological leap forward when compared to mechanical protractors/angle finders; because the electronic LED display shows the angle to a tenth of a degree. If you don't need that level of precision, consider a less expansive angle finder, such as the excellent Starrett 505A-12 ProSite Protractor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Efficient and NEARLY (not exactly) precise, but...
This product does NOT, I repeat, does not give you an accurate reading--at least not for 90-degrees, anyway. I own the most squared stainless steel square ever built. It is the same square I use to establish set angles on my table saws and other tools. When lining the DWM against it, the DWN falls short. Nothing monumental--we're talking fractions of a degree, nonetheless... take it for what it's worth.
The product appears to be durable and the programmable angle calculations are anon and accurate. But... is this product actually worth the price? Absolutely not. And here's why.

The manufacturer lists accessories for this angle finder. One of the most important ones is the extension. That extension should NOT be an accessory; it should be included in the price because 3 out of 5 angles I measure do not have long enough bases to rest the tool on. Hence, the extension. Are you reading this, Bosch? Stop being so cheap!
Further, the case is extra as well. I mean, come on! Nearly every tool that is sold on the market comes with its own case. What makes this product any different? Oh, I know... capitalism. Yes, it's certainly well constructed and definitely not meant to be banged around. So why not include the carrying case with it? Make the extension and the carrying case part of the package, then, YES... the price would be worth it.
One more con. I cannot believe the engineers of the DWM opted not to place an angle lock on this device. I really can't. If you're using this product to measure, let's say, several measurements containing the same angle, God forbid you accidentally bang it, or bang the tool into the wood, etc. You'll instantly lose the angle. It's not as feeble as you may assume upon reading this; nonetheless, it will indeed move with the slightest nudge.
    Hope this helps....

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth learning how to use it
I bought this over a year ago to help with a house I'm building. I started doing the kitchen and couldn't remember the directions so I did part of the kitchen, a inside and outside corner without it. I was all trial and error and I wasted alot of wood.

I decided to sit down and learn how to use this tool and it was worth it.I finished the rest of a large kitchen with a few crazy angles in one day and it came out great.

I just wished I learned how to use it properly sooner. ... Read more

This calculator is the best for the price. It does it all with regard to finance and mortgage calculations. The directions are straight forward and simple. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Mortgage Qualifying
For merely calculating the monthly payment for a given loan amount, interest rate, and term, there are cheaper calculators that will do as well, although with one or two added keystrokes. But if you are a loan originator who needs to qualify borrowers and know what the front and back end ratios are, this calculator is simpler to use than the HP models I've seen. You can also store tax and insurance rates for quick p.i.t.i. calculations. This is a great little calculator at a reasonable price. It's the best kept secret in the mortgage industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars So good I bought two!
I bought my first RT-7610-5 about 2 years ago.It turned out to be a great unit.Unfortunately, it was stolen from me off of a jobsite.I decided to buy a new one and I am even happier with my new unit.It seems to level a little faster than my previous one and I think the dot is a bit sharper.Great tool - I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Laser
Like some of the other reviewers, I bought this unit and it worked great out of the box. However, after a few months on non-use, it did not want to level.I tried batteries from another device that was working ( so I assumed the batteries were good), but still no luck. The factory said to make sure the batteries were fresh, so I bought new alkaline batteries and now the unit is working fine. This is a great tool, and I seem to find more uses for it all the time.My advice to anyone having trouble is - MAKE SURE your batteries are fresh.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great - Calibrate it yourself
I tried a couple co-workers lasers and found both to be about equal. One of the unique features of the RoboToolz is that the user can calibrate the tool on the jobsite, saving both the time and expense of sending the tool back to the factory, and, therefore, keeping it working. It levels quickly and projects a tight beam.Overall, a great tool at a great price. ... 10. DEWALT DW077KDK 18-Volt Self-Leveling Rotary Laser Kit (Int/Ext)

    Tools & Hardware

    Asin: B00006S7D5
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

    Editorial Review

When leveling has to be laser precise, the DeWalt 18-volt self-leveling rotary laser kit gets the job done. Accurate to within 1/8 of an inch per 100 feet, the laser gives off a high-power beam visible up to 100 feet. An included digital laser detector increases the working range to a distance of 600 feet and helps when trying to locate the laser beam in bright-light conditions. The laser's rotary head offers four speeds. Slower speeds produce a brighter beam, while the higher-speed settings produce a more solid light. The kit is listed as a Class IIIA laser product and complies with all the corresponding requirements and regulations. A wall mount and built-in tripod and floor mounts make setting up the laser kit a breeze, while a protected rotary head and weatherproof design ensure indoor and outdoor durability for any job site. In addition to the digital laser detector, the kit includes a laser target card, which aids in locating and marking the laser beam as it crosses over the card. Magnets hold the card securely to ceiling track or steel studs for quickly determining both level and plumb positions. Red-tinted laser-enhancement glasses also improve laser beam visibility under bright-light conditions or over long distances. A wireless remote control makes one-person setup and operation pain-free and fast. --Carl Thress ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt Finally got it Right!
I've tried a handful of other rotary lasers and they all had various problems, including the manually leveling DeWalt rotary laser.

But this unit has been working really nice. It is extremely accurate. The fit and finish is real nice, the unit sees to be very tough. You can use it horizontal and vertical, it also has a remote that works real nice. You can adjust the speed with the remote and make 360 degree circles or have it just scan back and forth over a specific area to make the line brighter.

I really like to fact that I can share the batteries with my other tools and I don't have to have spare D cells on hand. I also have the laser detector and that works nice as well, you would mostly use this outdoors when in bright sunlight.I would definitely recommend this tool.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not so great
My guess is that these reviews were all written by DeWalt's marketing department. The day after I bought this rotating laser, it stopped working, and I had to argue with the dealer to get it warrantied. In addition, I found it time consuming and not so simple to set up. I won't buy another laser from DeWalt.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a laser!

Received my 3rd hands today and one was damaged. The plastic

the plastic ends going onto the red metal shaft from plastic to

5-0 out of 5 stars great tool for a variety of jobs
This tool is everything it claims to be and MORE!!! I've used mine for crown molding, dust barrier, load stabilizer in my truck and holding upper cabinets in place for installations.I also have one that I use for mounting my laser on and it works great. Another creative way I've used it is for holding down hardwood floor boards like a clamp. It's an easy tool to use and the comstruction is of top quality.

This is a great tool.I am a maintenance guy and I use them for all sorts of things.I looked at the Rockler version, but it doesn't go as high...it only goes to 10' and 3rd hand goes to 12'.Also, the feet pivot all the way around on the 3rd hand and the Rockler one only pivots one way.I prefer the 3rd hand and it seems heavier duty too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Working alone? There is NO question: You need these!
I recently finished siding my 2-story colonial with 5.25" (4" exposure) Hardie Boards. It took me about 3 springs/summers of weekends since I did 99% of it completely alone.

I did not start using these until last year (year 3).At that point I only had 25% of the house done.Between these gauges, pump jacks, and a pneumatic siding nailer, I got nearly the other 75% done in one season. But if I could have only kept one tool that was an absolute necessity for working alone, it would have been these.

They are easy to set up and insert, and do a great job holding a course on the wall, especially when working alone. When butt-joining, I would hang a piece on these, then remove the one nearer to the joint and use the other as just a support or "shelf."

Here is my advice as a homeowner who installed Hardieboards by himself:
    1.Get these gauges!
2.Expect that over many squares, the bottom edges might get a little worn, perhaps requiring a gentle tap with a hand or hammer to get them to sit on the top course quickly.
3.If you are using the 5.25 (4" exposure) boards, you should STILL use some type of measurement gauge. The 5.25" does in fact dip slightly if you put the gauges near each end of a 12' board.I don't know if this happens with the bigger exposure boards but I would guess that it is not as much. Also, you may have to make your own measurement gauge for the 4" exposure. The Malco one starts at 5"

5-0 out of 5 stars Mandatory Tool for Siding Work
Anyone installing fiber cement siding needs these gauges. Quantum leap in siding installation process, dramatically cuts time required for job, no measuring of overlap, no time needed to check siding with level. Gauges will assure identical overlap and level siding. Makes siding job look almost perfect. Very simple to use. Essential if you work alone!

Sure, there are other stud finders out there. But not like this one. Here's why: It locates a stud through wallboard up to 1-1/2 inches deep. It turns itself on and off automatically with surface contact. It auto-calibrates after each scan. The LCD signal is clear, bright and easy to read. And best of all, you'll never have to mark the center with a pen or pencil again, because with a press of the marking button, this baby does it for you. It's like nothing we've ever seen, and something we think someone should have come up with a long time ago. The Stud Finder can be used by itself, but it's a slick duo with Strait-Line's Laser Level, which can map out the entire length of the stud for you. The Stud Finder is light but rugged and fits nicely in the palm of the hand. One of the best we've seen.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

This is arguably the worst tool I have owned in 40+ years of home repair. Not only does it not work, it makes an obnoxious high-pitched beep that will drive the average person crazy.

Total garbage. You have some nerve selling this on Amazon.

1-0 out of 5 stars We ain't figured this contraption out
Lulu, my niece, got this stud finder and went to the local saloon to find herself a feller.Heck, I've been tellin' Lulu for years that if she wants her a stud she'd best pick up a stick of deodorant and get a good shave, but do kids listen these days?

Anyways, Lulu took this finder to the saloon over by the skunk farm--all the farm hands hang out there after work. She thought she knew how to use this tool, but the first old boy she touched with it got so addled he ran out the bar and ain't none of us seen him since. She touched another feller with it, waiting for this digital readout to tell her if she'd found her a stud, and the contraption just flashed a number at her.

"It says you're six inches," Lulu told the feller.Ain't none of us seen him since, neither.

Needless to say, Lulu went home empty-handed, but she's determined to figure out how to make her stud finder work.I'm gonna help her look over the directions again, but I suspect with a tool that's got a long number like 64020 on it it's going to take one of them astronauts to show us the ropes. And them astronauts don't need no fellers, neither.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unsatisfactory
I bought this tool and used it for a couple of months. It seemed to work really well and I was very pleased with it.After about three months of light use I noticed that it was off by more than an inch on a 22' wall. There was no warning to tell me that this was happening.I was always gentle with the tool when transporting and using it.I tried to recalibrate it but it would not recalibrate. When I called the Robo Toolz Company, they said that I had probably abused it.Not true.To their credit, they recalibrated it free of charge.I used it again for a few months and then found that it was off again by around 2 inches in forty feet. This tool only warns you if you try to set it up at too much of a slant when it is self leveling.Once you set it up and the warning light is not blinking, you have to trust that it is reading level or you have to check it every time you use it against two established benchmarks. When I again could not recalibrate it, I was told that there would be a charge to recalibrate it because it was out of warranty.Bottom line, I don't trust this tool.If it worked the way it is supposed to, I would highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars You take your chances
I bought the robe laser a couple of years ago and it worked fine, but recently it went out of calibration.Too bad it doesn't have an auto self-calibration.When the tool was working, it was a fantastic time saver (I'm a carpenter and general contractor) and one man set-up/use is invaluable. However, I recently was checking my newly poured foundation walls for level and was quite alarmed at 1-1/2" out of level with a shoot-spread angle less than 60 degrees so I borrowed a buddys' old but acurate scope transit to verify what's what and discovered only a 3/8" out of level foundation. So until I can spend the time to recalibrate it, it's useless. Now, I'm considering purchasing another one or stepping up to a cst/Berger or pls5x for the extra $250 and name brand reliability.I also have the robo-vector which, when it was working, was also a fantastic tool for squaring up corners and plumbing anything, however, it too is on the fritz, therefore useless until repaired/recalibrated.You get what you paid for, when this tool works its amazing, but if/when it goes out, its useless and a waste of time.Maybe I just got the lemons?

4-0 out of 5 stars it works
There was a long delay between order and delivery, and Amazon.com finally shipped me a newer model, the 7210-1, which includes a line generator---and perhaps other improvements. This is about that model, not the RB01001. Though I obviously don't really know, I imagine that anyone ordering the 01001 from now on will actually receive the 7210.

It worked exactly as advertised, and is easy to use. The remote control makes it easy todo a one-man leveling job. It waswell calibrated out of the box, but I tweaked it, and recalibration is easy. (Just like any level, reverse it and split the difference.) I have no meaningful complaints, and the price is certainly right for a self-leveling laser. Obviously I have no idea how it will stand up under rough usage.

My only minor complaint is that the calibration plug is awkwardly located, and my own clumsy paws had a lot of trouble removing and replacing it. Though the instructions don't say so, it isn't even possible to remove it without a prying tool of some sort. I was tempted to not bother replacing it, but that would have left a hole for dust to get into the mechanism, which seemed to be a bad idea.

The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was that I imagine that one can get fancier tools for three times the price, and it's good to leave room at the top. This one is plenty good enough for me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice for the money
I bought one of these because I had a slab leak and need to figure out what direction it was coming from. The meter, seems pretty accurate, though, I have nothing else to compare it to. The tool is rather easy to use and even has a battery tester on it to test the power of a 9V. I would recommend this product for someone who is looking for an inexpensive moisture meter. It works well on dry wall and wood. The prongs can be a bit difficult to get into wood, but that is usually a sign that the wood is dry. It served its purpose and helped me find where the leak was coming from. I also lent it to a friend at work who used it to test whether or not he had a leak...It may not have a fancy lcd display, but you really no not need one in this case.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sonin 50211S Rapitest Moisture Test Meter
great price. works well. BUT... the probe is problematic. The probe breaks very easily at the prongs. The solder joint inside the probe breaks under pressure and ruins the continuity ot the prong to the unit, thus rendering it useless. Sonin does offer a replacement probe for it however for about $5.00. Sonin ships very quickly and responds to your email quickly also. This unit is a real bargin for its price, much cheaper than its counterparts. Just be prepared to replace the probe. If the probe problem was fixed this unit would be an excellent value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sonin-Rapidtest moisture meter
This is a pin-type meter designed for measuring moisture content in drywalls and concrete. It's really not designed for measuring lumber moisture content.I own a Wagner MMC-220 that costs $270 and the readings given by the two meters are drastically different if used on wood. The problem is it's almost impossible to push those thick pins into lumber to get a good reading. If the pins are not pushed in deep enough into lumber or drywall, the reading will be off. It's not too difficult to push enough of the pins into drywall to get a meaningful reading, but it's almost impossible to push them into most woods.Surprisingly it's not hard at all to get meaningful readings on concrete because you just have to push the pins hard against concrete without having to penetrate the concrete.

Overall, as long as you use it for its intended purposes, i.e. measuring moisture content in drywall and concrete, it's a good meter, but it's useless as a moisture meter for woods. ... Read more

I have been laying brick, and doing work in the general construction field for over 40 years... most of the "torpedo" levels have a very limited field of view of the level vial, and as such, are very hard to read ... especially when they get dirty... The Stabilla goes beyond all of that with easy to read vials, and easy to clean vials... (I have found that a spraying with some good cooking oil will release most of the mortar.... )and make your tool useable for a longer time... All in all I rate this level at the top end for a Torpedo type level...... Mentor

When you consider the longevity and the accuracy of these levels, they are a bigger bargain than any other. The higher price is more than offset bythe advantages. Guaranteed accuracy for the life of the tool.Extremedurability. A vial that will measure any angle . And a powerful magneticstrip. No other torpedo level offers so much for so little. Sure , you canbuy a cheaper level but when it breaks the advantage is lost. I have hadmany torpedo levels. They were adequate but this surpasses them all by ahuge margin. If mine ever gets stolen or lost, I will order a new one on thespot.

We thought it was a great thing when levels started coming out with pins in them to affix the unit to the wall, hands-free. But then you're left with little pin marks, a small price to pay, we figured, for hands-free convenience. But then came 3M technology and Command Adhesive strips, and suddenly, those little pinholes didn't have to happen. Strait-Line got on board with their laser level's adhesive base, teaming it with this innovative stuff that sticks like heck when you want it to and comes off cleanly, leaving no residue or mark behind. 3-0 out of 5 stars Close But Not Perfect
I have had a FrameMaster 16 Framer for over four years now. I have found it to be a great aid in speeding up the framing process. It has helped me to frame walls as well as setting rafters, especially involving hip and valley situations. Also, it has been strong enough to tweek those slightly twisted studs into alignment as they are being nailed. Upon its first use, I did find it to be in slight error for a continuing layout along a run of any length. Fortunately, the error was long instead of short. So, as I'm one of those people that are sticklers for accurate equipment, I simply made an adjustment by using a table saw to carefully shave a small amount off the side of the open end to acheive the correct exact length. I also found the closed end to be a bit tight to fit over the 1-1/2" lumber. Again, I used the table saw to shave a little off both sides to get the right fit. I think the error is created in the casting process when the tool is made. There is a slight taper (draft) in the plastic to allow for the item to be removed from the mold. Overall, I think the tool is well worth the small investment, in spite of the need to tweek the dimensions slightly. The time savings alone gives your investment back in less than a day of use. I have since, purchased a FrameMaster 24 to assist in those 24" OC walls and rafter jobs. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Tool
This plumb bob is fast and easy. Being a framer did not think I would use the magnet but it works great for plumbing trusses just connects to metal gang plate and go.

4-0 out of 5 stars Half great - half cheap plastic!!
I am finishing my basement and bought this plumb bob to set the walls, door jams and window boxes. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the plumb bob itself, the cord and the auto-retracting mechanism. The bob doesn't spin, settles quickly and the retraction gizmo is almost perfectly balanced - a HUGE time saver.

However, I found the "box" that you hang the plumb bob from to be very cheap. It's made of two pieces of plastic snapped together and broke the first time I dropped it. The hanging pin is a neat idea, but more often than not the unit popped of the wall and fell on my head. The black plunger that sets the pin is, again, plastic and you are supposed to hit it with your hand - you could never hit it with a hammer, even softly. Additionally, the hanging hook is thin gauge and I have bent it several times. More frustrating, its only maybe 2 inches long - it doesn't reach the width of a 2x4. The magnet is strong and the most useful and reliable hanging method.

I rate this 4 out of 5 because the quality of the cord they used and the retraction mechanism alone. The cord has never tangled and the recoil has performed perfectly. But, I almost always set a small nail and hang the plumb bob from there - I was tired of it falling off. Even though this is rigged - it's still a very useful and convenient tool.

One last note - they do a bad job of explaining the "zero depth" function. In the picture, you see the cord hanging 2 inches from the wall. Without moving it or anything, you can easily adjust the cord behind a set pin in the yellow box and the cord is now flush against the wall. I find myself doing this a lot when I need to be more careful about exact plumb.

All said and done - money well spent - but if (or when) I buy another one, I'll duct tape the plastic box together before I ever start using it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bob among bobs!
Cool Tool, I was just looking for a simple plumb bob and saw this retractable Tajima bob on Amazon.com.It was a little more expensive than a high quality bob by it's self, so I went for it.This bob is great.Very high quality, and has a "u-joint" type of connection that makes the bob settle down quickly. The retractable feature is fantastic. This is a very nice tool and a must for every finish carpenter and home builder. ...
