Quiet, Easy to Operate, But Not Dependable
Positives:

1) Quiet.I could keep a conversation with my son while mowing.
2) Easy to Operate.Just pull the handle and push.Anybody can operate this mower.
3) Easy to Transport.It is real easy to pull the handle off and put it in the trunk of a car if you need to take it anywhere.
4) No gas/oil.Just plug in the electric cord and go.Great for smaller yards, but when you start getting a distance from the outlet, cord management can become infuriating.

Negatives:

1)Here is the BIG ONE!!!As a kid, my father only owned two mowers.The first lasted over ten years and the second is still going.Not only did these mow his good sized yard on a regular basis, but it also supported several summers where I made a good chunk of change mowing the neighbor's yards.This one by Black & Decker lasted two years and never turned on again.I would expect lawn mowers to last longer and this one barely made it past the warranty.The saddest thing is that this mower never got used much... I can only imagine what it would do if I was mowing more than my little lawn.This is what causes me to rank the mower very low.
2)Corners.If you have grass in a corner, this lawn mower isn't going to get it at all.Use a weed wacker.I suspect there is a lot of wasted space under the hood of this mower.
3)The Cord.What a pain, especially when you are mowing near the outlet.Be careful not to run over it.I'm not going to fault Black & Decker, but electric mowers in general, for the difficulties a cord can cause.

Will I buy an electric mower again?Not for a large yard, but maybe for something less than 500 square feet.It is pretty nice to not have to put gas in it.

Would I buy this brand again?Well, Black & Decker is normally a name I can trust but they really struck out on this one for me.I was equally disappointed by the lack of help from their customer support.So, unfortunately, the answer is no.

Great Mower - Short Life!
I'm not going to talk about the cord dance because that's an issue for gas vs electric mower. This reviewisabout the MM575 mower and it is great! This mower has plowed through really tall thick grass and even some weeds that have gotten woody. Ipurchased it a mere 2 years ago (just out of the warranty period)and I went to plug it in last night and it would not start - completely dead. I would like to purchase another but I'm cautious about the life expectancy. It is easy to assemble -just add the handle, no tools required! And one touch of a lever is all it takes to raise or lower all 4 wheels.

Worth every penny!
My older brother used to tease me about how I could never pull start a gas powered lawn mower to save my life. I sure yanked my arm out trying, though.
This mower is eaaaasssy to start. Flip up the start bar and hold it in place. So now even I can mow the lawn on my small yard.
One thing the mower does do if you set it to mulch and you haven't mowed in a while or the grass is wet, it will slow down or *burp* grass clippings out.
I have yet to have a big problem otherwise with this mower. If gas powered ones are too heavy for you to push, this light mower is great! Especially for us ladies! ^_^
Yes, you do have to do the 'cord dance'. But for the price of the mower, and no oil or gas fumes to worry about, it pays for itself in the long run. It is definately quieter than other mowers, and I have yet to replace the blade.
I would also reccomend the electric trimmer by Black and Decker. I have this, as well, and it has a self feeding spool with no bumping! It took a year for the plastic string to run out. Cool, huh?

Good cutter if you can deal with the cable dance
Actually the mower itself gets 5 points but i was not used to electric mowers, so i gave 4 because of the little inconvenience with the cable. Dealing with cable seemed more of a work than actual mowing in my small end unit townhome lawn. This is very light weight, so you dont feel like putting effort into it while mowing, even when it does not self drive which is case of some gas powered mowers. I cut almost 8 inch grass to 3 inch without any problem. I never tried when wet, but dry grass even taller grass seemed no problem at all for this mower. I would really suggest this mower ifyou are aware of how to deal with the cable when mowing. May be small length cables are good if you have multiple outlets with in reach.

This mower has a few significant design flaws. The on-switch is a pinch hazzard. When my old electric mower died after 20 years, I ordered this one. In the MM275's first use, my right palm was pinched at least 4 or 5 times by the dead-man's switch lever (and I was never pinched by my old one). The lever is just too small and cheap, but is the perfect size to provide pretty healthy pinches. The handle doesn't fold, so moving it in and out of the basement is cumbersome. And, the front edge of the mower is at least 6 inches away from the blade, making it impossible to cut close to anything in front of the mower.

Will never go back to a gas mower
I bought this in the Spring of 2004 and have used it all summer.I am very pleased and will never go back to a gas mower.It is so easy to use, even easy to mow the steep slope in front of my house.It mulches terrific without a trace.I have mowed wet grass with it and high grass and it keeps going strong.With the two year warranty, I can rest assured that even if something goes wrong next summer, I will still have a great mower another year.Next time I might try a cordless model as I have very small trees and some shrubs in the yard and the cord can occasionally run into those if I am not paying close enough attention.I highly recommend this delightful little mower. ... Areliable power source for supermoms
I'm a single mother of a seven year old with ADHD. My friendly robotics lawnmower that I bought last year was a godsend. Generally the battery lasts long enough on one charge to mow either my front or back yard. A Fantastic Mower!
I grew up using a power mower to maintain lawns, but after a few weeks with this mower, I'm not sure I'd go back to using a gas-powered mower. This may be the only purchase I've ever made that went against my wife's wishes, but she seems to have come to terms with my purchase, and even admits that the mower yields good results.

This mower will not give you that perfect, even cut that a typical gas-powered mower will produce, but a friend and I agreed that we both like that the result is not 100% perfect. There's a certain beauty in the minor imperfections.

Other reviewers have stated that twigs and rocks will bring the mower to a grinding halt. They certainly will, but considering that a power mower can turn those objects into potentially dangerous projectiles, I'm quite comfortable with backing up, and removing the obstacle.

Weeds and thicker blades of grass will require an extra pass or two, but my experience has been that they will fall victim to the blades. One effective trick that I recently discovered, is to give the mower a forceful push, and then stop it directly over the stubborn grass or weed, letting the mower blades rotate for a few seconds. The weed/grass will get caught in the rotating blades, and will be cut. For particularly recalcitrant weeds, you'll have to break down and pull them, which is the only way I know (aside from sprays) that will eliminate the weed for good.

I can't speak for all grass types, and do not know that much about grass myself. I know when I first used this mower on our new property, the grass was about four or five inches high, and went down without a fight.

I would recommend this mower to anyone. Your neighbors may look at you a little strangely at first, and generously offer their gas-powered mowers, but you'll be happy you made the purchase. Lawn mowing has become a much less arduous task, and I am quite happy with my purchase.

AHHHH the joy of mowing the lawn
I am so happy with this lawn mower. I just stroll around the lawn with ease. As a household of three women, my two daughters & myself we always argue as to who's turn it is to mow the lawn. Now I don't mind doing it. It's quiet, relaxing and most of all easy to push, and I don't have to start it or add gas! It was also easy to put together & coming from someone who can just about hang a picture that is saying something. This mower is great. It's funny my neighbor laughed & said wow I haven't seen one of those in years. Well he'll see it every weekend & it won't wake up the neighbors. It's great.

A REEL WINNER
I live in a TOWNHOUSE community in HOUSTON, TEXAS where ST. AUGUSTINE turf is one of the few types of GRASS that will survive our summers. This spring I had new SOD laid in front of my TOWNHOUSE. In about [2] weeks it was really starting to look good. The groundskeepers judged that it was ready to MOW and their 600 LB rotary mower KILLED it. New sod was laid on July 13, 2004 and that's when I checked on the various types of mowers available. The American Lawn Mower Company 1815-18 18" Reel Mower had the best rating so that's what I bought. Assembly was a BREEZE. The instructions were clear and complete. The downside was installing the foam rubber handle cover [using HOT SOAPY WATER as a lubricant made the installation possible]. On AUGUST 3, 2004 I had to MOW the grass because it's height was approaching 4". THIS MOWER WORKS FLAWLESSLY. The blades are sharp and the cut [I CROSS-CUT IT] is EVEN! Really Bad Customer Service
I purchased my Yard-Man in Jan 2004.Mower worked fine until I hit a rock while mowing in November 2004.I took the mower to a Yard-Man authorized service center where I was told I needed a new blade hub (holds blade on to shaft) but that it was a simple repair.Long story short, it took 7 weeks to get this part!The owner of the repair shop told me MTD is notorious for their poor parts distribution.I made a complaint to customer service via their MTD website.My reply was a link to a FAQ section that explains not every part can be kept in stock and that some orders may take 14 days.Basically they blew me off.As this is my only recourse, I would advise not to buy any MTD product because of their poor customer service.

Bad Go Switch Work Around
The previous reviewer mentioned that the GO switch would fail.I also am on my second perimeter switch, but I learned the true reason why the first one failed...moisture.Although the perimeter switches are ok to leave outside in the weather according to the book (when mounted upright), I have found that moisture still will find its way in.I have had MUCH better luck bringing my switch in and out each time I mow.I am in the process of finding a weatherproof box to permanently mount it outside.So, the switch does, imo, have a design flaw, but it is easy to work around.

Perimeter Switch GO button fails after use
The GO button failes to work after use. I have to open the unit up take the batteries out, put the batteries back in to get it to work. I have used my 1st Perimeter Switch for 8 months. I called the company and got another one, but the second unit has failed, after only 5 months, to start using the go button. So in 13 months I have gone throu 2 Perimeter Switches. I am in process of contacting the company to get my 3rd Switch. The unit is good at letting you know when the battries are low and when your wire is cut. American (China) Lawn mower
I bought one of these and two of the reels would not engauge the cutting bar as they should. Left patches of grass all over.

Took it back and bought a Scott's Classic 20" reel mower. Twice the price, but its made in America and the quality is there.

Best Mower Ever!
I borrowed this mower from a neighbor and fell in love! I was afraid to use it at first remembering the old ones from when I was a kid. I have a small european yard and it was perfect. It was so fast, I ran over the grass in different directions to get a different mulching pattern. Safe, easy to use, great for the environment!*****

It was supposed to MOW the lawn
While this mower trimmed small patches of clover and leafy plants, it simply squashed down my grass without cutting it.It wouldn't cut anything taller than just a few inches, which I suppose is fine if you want to mow your lawn every other day.Any little piece of debris will stop this mower in its tracks - even a patch of grass a bit thicker than usual.My yard looks terrible and I am returning this mower immediately.I do not recommend this mower. ... Swisher Zero turn 36" mower ZT1436
...The ZT1436 is ...It is a bit noisier than other brands I have tried, but for the money I saved it's bearable.It does the same job around trees and plantings as the more expensive units and for me should last a lifetime as I do not intend to use it daily to mow for a living.(Professional brands)I would recommend this to anyone with "stuff" to mow around as it cuts your lawn care time in half(even less) so you can move on to other interests.Just as easy to use as the Big names zero turn units, only half the price.So far I am quite pleased.Parts are available internet and phone, but no local dealers for service.I figure I can fix anything that may go wrong and they will supply the parts if need be.This Zero turn mower actually makes lawn work fun! ... You'll need a lot of these!
As another reviewer stated, you need a LOT of these.I have a rather modest yard with a few trees, have so far used 200 of these, and hope the 50 more on their way will be enough.I've also found that they break pretty easily, so be careful with them.

not that good
You actually need a bunch of these things to make the wire stay down properly.I would instead suggest sticking with what you get with the iMow and using those in conjunction with burying the wire about 3 inces into the earth.

Not only is burying the wire cleaner and cheaper (I used a ... garden hoe and it worked perfectly) but you don't need to be purchasing these things like it's going out of style.

I found you need to place these a lot closer than the directions suggested at first.Especially if iMow is set to the lowest setting.

However, if you do want to go the peg route you will not find plastic stakes for cheaper.The only other place I found them was in camping stores ... ... Read more
