5-0 out of 5 stars Three and one half inch panel bits are the most popular
The 5 piece set is what I initially bought. It includes the glue up joint bit, which is nice for gettting a lot of panels to line up properly while gluing. It also includes the door lock bit, which will turn your raised panel, into a drawer front by removing the material around the edge of the back of the door face.
I bought this set as well. Why? Because when making kitchen cabinets, the raised panel bit that they provide with the 5 piece set is too small for a large cabinet. (Unless you prefer that look) So I bought this set, to pick up the 3 1/2" panel raising bit. That requires a large opening of at least 3 5/8" on the bottom of your router, and the opening on your router table as well. The Bosch 1619EVS is even larger than that. The Fein RT-1800 allows for the the use of a 3 1/2" bit, but the casting prevents you from plunging a bit that size. Not really recommended, because you might accidently adjust it into the base. Their are others also, but most fixed base 2 HP routers won't accept such a large bit. So measure first.
Overall this is a great set of bits. They do a great job, and last a long time. Highly recommended.

    5-0 out of 5 stars 99-218 Problem?
For those reading the review of the 99-218 panel raiser, try using a 1/8" backcut on your panel and your alignment problems dissapear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice performance but.....
I found the Freud 97-102 an excellent product. However,I found to get the maximum profile(1-1/4")and keep the panel & rails flush in the front,I had to use 3/4" stock for the panel, and at least 13/16" stock for the rails/stiles.(The panel cutter has a 5/8" depth of cut) A better choise is the Freud 97-100 set. It has the same rail/stile bits, but the panel bit included can take as little as 3/8" depth of cut and still get the full profile! This means you can use thinner stock if needed, and end up with a much better proportioned door. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great router
This router works great.I am impressed with its power, accuracy and noise level. The delay startup is great. The only thing I wish it had would be an internal light.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest value ever!
The tool is very powerful, and despite this is easy and comfortable
to hand maneuver. For its power, it is surprisingly
lightweight and smooth. It also appears to be unbreakable.
Bit changing is easy with the built in shaft lock, high speed
cutting tools must use uncomfortable high carbon steel collets,
otherwise the vibration would be unbearable. The turret height
adjustment (And lock lever) could use some refinement. The noise
level is lower than my 7/8hp bosch router, even being "boosted"
by the vacuum cleaner I use to collect the chips and dust the router
pours out. Great piece of machinery. For hands-on DIY
enthusiasts who also service their tools, I recommend the model
3612BR, which lacks speed control and soft start and yelds a
    simply and sturdier assembly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does all its supposed to do
I must admit after having posessed the 3612(see review) for as long as routers have been around, the 3612C was an unopposed choice. It has the same ergonomics and weight which is quite comfortable. On the other hand the variable speed and the same powerful motor makes it just what is needed for those large bits when fitted in a table. If you are looking for a router without frills and no pretentions of being anything but a work horse that will give you years of efficient, trouble free service this is what you need. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars good stuff
I agree with the other reviewers:Milwaukee makes quality tools and this is another example.Good box, quality templates.I'm glad I bought them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great quality and Great Case
These are made really well, but the 2 things I liked best was the spare locking nut included, and the case. They give you 2 lock nuts. The quality and fit was great and the case was compact and rugged. The other sets I looked at had a cheap, hard plastic case that I would have broken in no time. One Note...most Milwaukee routers come with a sub base that has a 2 1/2" hole. You'll need the other plastic sub base with the 1 3/16" hole to use these guides.MIlwaukee Part # 49-54-1040.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am very pleased with this product.
I use this ProPlate in my Bench Dog cast iron router table wing.So far the only router I have mounted to it is the DeWalt DW618 fixed base model.

Though it took some head scratching and studying of the paper template provided, I eventually figured out which holes to use to mount the plate to my router. My belief is that if Bench Dog says this plate will fit your router (with the predrilled holes), then it will fit.My main confusion was that my router's clear base mounts with four screws but the ProPlate only uses three screws to mount to my router.Once I realized this, putting this plate into use was a snap!

I highly recommend this product for its quality, performance, and decent price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Caution to prospective buyers.
I purchased the Bosch 1617EVSPK router kit and the Bench Dog P-PC200 phenolic plate at the same time.I need the plate for a special jig.Bench Dog claims the P-PC200 plate is predrilled to fit all Bosch 1617/18 routers.I spent at least 1 hour trying to fit the plate onto the plunge base and was unsuccessful. The hole pattern on the plunge base matched a set of holes on the paper template included with the plate, but the plate was not predrilled with those holes.I called Bench Dog twice, and they kept telling me it should fit.Fortunately, Tool Crib was kind enough to let me ship the plate back at their expense.

The quality of the plate appears fine, but I am rating the plate only 3 stars because of Bench Dog's package claims and the technical support I received from them. ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars Porter-Cable 893PK
The router has enough power for use in a table. With the variable speed feature, you don't have to worry too much about burning. The one and only thing I don't like is the squarish depth stop knob on the plunge base because it is so uncomfortable to use. Replace it with another one of your choosing. The height adjuster is superbly designed. Lastly, this kit costs only 50$ more than the 1 3/4 hp variable speed plunge kit. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality for Freud
I bought my set a few years ago contempalting doing Dovetail joints.I just pulled it out to use with my PorterCable 1501 router. It would not fit my base plate.Fortunately I found my old porter-cable router that has a base fixed in one place excepted the guides. I tried the 3/8" guide and found it to beoff-center or out of round. It would not fit in the router base.Probably had it to long to get it exchanged. I've bought a lot of other Freud products and have been pleased, but this one surprized me.

5-0 out of 5 stars There's Gold in them hills!
This set is great. Costs the same as Porter Cable, is as good as Porter Cable, if not better and you get the GOLD for free!

    How can you go wrong?

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Set
Recieved my guide kit in good order. All the pieces and parts were included in the case. I have only used it once on a hope chest I constructed. Everything seems to fit and work ok. Havent had a lot of experience with this type of routing so I don't have a lot to compare to. The machining of the parts seems fine and what little I have done went very well. So far I am very satisfied with Freud products.
UPDATE..Jan. 05...Ruined the 1/4 inch guide, when the stop collar vibrated loose, allowing the guide to move. Also messed up the bit. I have used this guide set a couple of times and haven't had this problem before. I found a new guide and stop collar at my local woodworker store, not very expensive. I have always hand tightend my stop collar but will use a pair of pliers from now on. Shouldn't have to but can't risk this happening again. Very scary and could have been very hazardous.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works very well
I hooked it up to my vacuum and it eliminated virtually all mess! That's so pleasant given the tremendous whirlwind of debris generated by routing.

You have to think ahead and determine just how the cuts are going to be made and where you need to look. This hood can get in the way of your cut, either hitting some other piece of material, the blade, blocking your vision etc. It takes a little time to get used to but as long as you think ahead it can make a difference.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for use with a dove tail jig
I purchased a "D" handle PC 691 to use with the PC 24" Omnijig.Because I have a small shop dust collection is a major objective. This dust collection system works, at best, marginally when using the Omnijig. The lower collection enclosure cannot be used. The side port collects minimal shavings.I still use the system and from time to time turn off the vacumm to gauge if it is worth the setup.Yes, it does collect some of the chips, but probably not worth the price if the dust collection system is exclusively used with an Omnijig application. The PC 691 is exclusively used for dove tail work in my shop.If I'm missing something here I'd welcome correction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works very well
I've been doing a lot of MDF work lately and using my flush trim bit A LOT.The dust MDF creates is incredible and I got tired of being covered in it and having it cover everything in my garage.Hooked up to my Ridgid shop vac, not one speck of MDF dust escaped this PC dust collection system.WOW!On a side note, I do recommend getting a softer, less rigid hose as the stiffer ones typically provided with shop vacs can interfere with smooth handling of the router.I am comfortable with the price. ... Editorial Review

Innovation in a powerful package, with convenience to boot--that's what you get with Triton’s 3-1/4 horse router, including something we haven’t seen anywhere else: the ability to change bits without taking the router out of the table or reaching underneath the table. When it’s fully plunged, the router brings the collet above the table, saving you time and effort. Brilliant. The body travels smoothly and effortlessly on its huge columns. There are three ways to adjust depth, too: free plunge and lock the lever, use the clever handle-winder mechanism for a more controlled rack-and-pinion adjustment, or use the micro adjustment knob for the finest changes throughout the depth range. The soft start feature won’t pull this heavy router out of your hands, and the variable speed switches easily. The handles feel good and offer excellent control, too, a plus because this is a hefty piece. In the table or out, we’d like this one in our shop.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars I'm stuck with it......
My sweetheart bought this for me....pre xmas gift. I wanted another large router to install in a second router table, so I could do multiple routing without having to change bits. I intended to buy another of the Freud FT2000EP 3-1/4hp routers. I have one of these in my primary router table and am quite happy with it's performance(see review). She didn't go to the local wood worker store I normally frequent, they would have known better, but instead to one of the "famous" national stores. This is what they recommended she buy, so of course she did. If I return it, I will have to live with the "LIP" for quite a few years. I'm sure most of the male woodworkers out there know all about the "LIP". Oh well, its the thought that counts.
First impression...man this thing is heavy...thought the Freud was a beast but this one even tops that. Gonna have to reconfigure my second router table as the Triton is shaped differently and make a set of plates for it as my Freud plates won't match up. The learning curve on setups and controls will of course be different and it feels kind of weird in the hands. Not unstable or anything, just strange. Haven't used it much, just some playing around to make sure everything works. It is as loud as the Freud and the plunge mechinism is stiff and kind of awkward. You have to stand above the router to push it down,or you will strain an elbow joint, perhaps that will loosen up with use. Will post an update later on. Would like to see a little more metal in the machine, but thats a trend for everyone now.
I guess the best I can say is that it seems to work ok. For this much money I really expected to be wow'd and I'm not. Hope that improves with use.....well now I can get that "D" handle I've been wanting.
UPDATE...I've had this router about a month now and have used it a few times to make decorative molding for jewelry boxes. I've found that once you get used to the location of the adjustment mechnisms they are fairly simple to use. I can't say that it is a better router than the Freud, they both seem to work well and are easy to adjust. I found that the built in dust chute doesn't work all that well, so have fitted the router table with a 4" connector and use that instead. Still feel that for the difference in price I would go with the Freud. Will have to wait a few years to see which one outlasts the other.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with the Triton Router
I'm a retired info systems professional and make furniture for family and friends, not professionally.I've used this router for two major projects in the year that I've owned it.I would have rated it 5 stars except for a problem I had with the rack and pinion lift system near the end of my last project, which involved 8 hours of on-site (not in my workshop) dado routing over 4 days. The gear drive got very stiff in the last hour and occasionally locked up.However, even past the warranty, Triton took back my router and sent me a refurbished one (in advance - no waiting - the replacement, which appeared to be new, arrived in two days).I was asked to pay only for shipping - a nominal fee.I shipped the old one back in their shipping carton. They also updated the switch cover, although I never had a problem with the switch as I've read about other owners.I expect this will become my table router. The rack and pinion combined with the fine adjustment make it ideally suited for table work.Incredible power.Never slows up.Never heats up.Slow startup makes it very easy to control, and it's surprisingly quiet for a router with so much power.I expected plastic parts to cause problems, but have had NONE. It's a very solid machine. It is a bit heavy (expect a 3+ HP router to be heavy), but in a table it won't make any difference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied
Bear in mind that this is the only router I have ever owned. The router lives up to the hype as far as I can tell. I've had no problems with the collet but I wonder if those who have had trouble are using 1/4" bits with the collet reducing adapter ?. The geared and free plunge work well. The ability to raise the collet out of the base and lock it for bit changes is a fantastic feature. There is PLENTY of power. It is solidly made. My two criticisms would be: 1. The user manual is too brief and hard to understand: Since the controls are interlocked, you do have to operate them in a specific order. Get this wrong and it might seem that the mechanism is jammed. 2. It is a bit on the heavy side. To be expected from a relatively high power motor, but awkward if you are routing free hand - not in a table. I'd give it five stars if I had more experience with other models. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Base not perpendicular to shaft
Bought this unit based on recommendations forom others, but returned because the base was not perpendicular to shaft. It is probably not a big deal if you intend to use it for laminate trimming, but I was planning to use it as a mini router, so wouldn't work for me.Otherwise seemed and felt like a great unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laminate Router
I have used this particular Bosch Router in my countertop business for the last 18 years. These routers will last on average 4-5 years with every day use. Easy to change out bits, light weight, and very dependable with very smooth cuts. Highly recommend to any one who installs plastic laminate! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars what a joke
For less than the cost of this unit I built a nice solid table with all kinds of features that are either unavailable, expensive or under built in the store bought models. Any router how to book will walk you through it. If you're truly a woodworker or aspiring to be one & not just a collector of power tools, this is an opportunity to improve your skills & make something worth having that will last a long long time.

1-0 out of 5 stars In response to "Its the same as the Craftsman"
If this Bosch table is indeed the same as the Craftsman..
    Avoid it..

The setup, although it did take some time, wasn't all that bad.. (Maybe because I expected it to be difficult from reading previous reviews.. lol)

My so-called "Professional" Craftsman Router Table which also sells for $249.99 is high on the ends and low in the middle of the table.. And although $250 isn't a huge amount of money.. You would think for largely a hunk of plastic and some aluminum you would get something far more "precision"...

Craftsman is NOT an alternate to the Bosch table..

1-0 out of 5 stars dissapointed
I bought the Bosch Router table almost without thinking.I have other Bosch tools and have gained confidence that if you want an extremely good tool, Bosch is a sure bet.

How wrong I was about the table. The design appears quite good.Unfortunately, the use of a composite router mounting plate does not provide sufficient support.I found the surface to be concave after mounting the router (of course, a Bosch router).Accuracy in such conditions is nearly impossible.

Too, the table surface (aluminum) leave black marks on hardwoods (no doubt, aluminum oxide) that probably can be corrected with wax, or by gluing a laminate top over it.Like other reviewers, I also observed burrs and overall poor quality on the table top.The dust collection worked surprisingly well with very little spill-out, and the ease of using the supplied feather boards was welcome.I'm afraid with those positives however, I wouldn't buy a Bosch Router table again.

Although I am still a firm supporter of the quality of Bosch tools, I will probably be a bit more cautious in my future purchases. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Bosch recently introduced routers that it claims have the highest power-to-weight ratio in the industry. We believe them. The 1618EVS is a member of Bosch's new Magnesium line. This variable-speed router features a stout 2-horsepower motor coupled with an all-magnesium base and housing. The result is a lightweight, well-balanced, and smooth-operating machine that offers fast results in demanding applications. The D-handle provides excellent control--especially when reaching and turning on and off--and the auxiliary handle reverses, which is handy. (Bosch's 1617 model features this same motor in a base that has two nicely finished, hard maple, knob-style handles: it's prettier than the 1618 but not quite as easy to grip.)

Something Bosch engineers are proudest of is what they call the "precision centering system," which makes the router bit track at true center. It's an important feature for multiple-pass applications like jig cutting, and fine woodworkers will particularly appreciate it. Ease of height adjustment is a way of measuring quality in routers, and Bosch has come up with a system that works as well as any we've tested. A large flip lever releases the motor for adjusting. Rather than twisting as the height changes, the motor raises and drops in a straight path. The result is a simple and smooth-working course-adjust that couples with an efficient microadjust to make fine-tuning the depth of cut easy and accurate. Removing the motor from the base is a similar operation: simply release the flip lever, depress the course-adjustment lever, slide the motor out until it stops, then turn the motor counterclockwise and pull. It couldn't be easier, and there's no thumbscrew to wrestle with. Anyone who switches bases frequently will appreciate this design.

The 1618EVS also has soft start and electronic variable speed, more or less industry standards today. The collet is self-releasing, which means there's no need to tap the spindle to change bits, and the collet depth is 13/16 of an inch, a few 16ths deeper than that of DeWalt or Porter-Cable--one more weapon in Bosch's battle for a truly centered bit. --Mark McDonald ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Generally good router with a few issues
In addition to this router, I also own a Porter Cable 890 router so in my evaluation of this Bosch 1618EVS I compare the Bosch router against the PC.

There's much to like with this router. It's powerful and the soft start and variable speed works very well.I like the control the D-handle gives me.I feel much safer starting a router with both hands on the handles than having to let go of one handle to click a toggle switch on the top of the motor.

The two major things I don't like about this router are:

1.It's difficult to take the motor out of the base and to put it back in again. When I received the router, it was obvious that something about the base just doesn't work well. And if you're like me and take the motor out to change bits, this gets to be a hassle. If you loosen the clamp bolt sufficiently to allow the motor to come out/go in easily, the base doesn't clamp tightly enough and the depth of your cut changes as you're cutting.

After fiddling with the motor and base a while, I found that a small amount of lubrication between the motor and base works wonders - the motor becomes easy to put in and take out.I need to see if this lubrication becomes a dust magnet and whether it holds up (how often I have to re-lubricate)

2.The other thing I'm not happy about (but this isn't as serious as the first) is the way the fine adjustment works. On my PC, the fine adjustment is continuous. That is, I can crank the router completely up or down using the fine adjustment. The PC has a lever for coarse adjustments, but using it is up to you.The Bosch has only a limited amount of fine adjustment.Once you use up the fine adjustment, you have to go back to the coarse adjustment and make a major adjustment up or down, then run the fine adjustment to the other end of the adjustment screw. You don't hit this all the time, but, when you do, it's a pain in the butt.

So why did I buy this router? The PC 890 series does not come with a D-handle with a power switch. The PC switch can be activated either on the top of the motor or lower down on the motor so you can switch it on and off without letting go of the handles - but I just wanted a D-handle router for non-router table use.

Would I buy it again?I can't say yet - I need some more time with the router to see if the motor/base problem comes back.

I also want to add a SAFETY pitch.Soft start routers cost a bit more than fixed speed routers but the startup is significantly safer. If you buy a fixed speed router (non-soft start), you'll be fighting the startup torque every time you use it.It only takes one time - one little bit of inattention on your part - and the router will jerk out of your hands on startup. It WILL happen to most woodworkers at least once in their careers. And for what you spend at the emergency room, you could have bought several soft start routers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Body Oxidation makes this router unusable for me
I bought the 1618EVS at the Chantilly VA tool show in March of 2003, and had problems with the router motor sticking in the base from the very first usage.Even with the clamp completely loose, the grey/white oxidation on the motor casing causes so much friction that installing/raising/lowering the router is a painful experience.Nothing I've tried so far removes the oxidation.I will be trying to return this, soon.Too, bad, because I love my other Bosch tools. (1619 router is awesome, as is 1587 jigsaw)

3-0 out of 5 stars height adjustment
My original purchase intent was the Milwaukee, but I purchased the Bosch based on favorable reviews I read..I find the height adjustment to be a little on the weak side. The locking clamp will not sufficiently release the motor body for movement unless the tension is backed off with a wrench. After setting the height, the clamping pressure does not feel secure enough so I had to re-tighten the tension with a wrench.Maybe it would work, but I am not interested in the router bit pulling down into the work and ruining the job in order to find out. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Table Use
This knob is good for table use, but unfortunately, you have to remove the height indicator, and you still need to release the lock.It is helpful for fine adjustments, but it is still pretty hard to use.I use it occasionally, but I still think it was a pretty good buy for the times that I need to be deas-on accurate. ... Editorial Review

This fixed-base D-handle router from DeWalt has all the design features to make it a popular choice with woodworkers and professional carpenters for freehand routing. The tool's powerhouse is a smooth-running, 12 amp, 2-1/4-horsepower variable-speed motor with soft start and a spindle lock. It offers more than enough power to make precise, clean cuts in tough hardwood materials without bogging down. A micro-fine adjustment ring is used to dial in the height setting at 1/64-inch increments, so the motor itself doesn't need to be turned, and as a consequence, the position of the switch and cord doesn't change every time your cut-depth does. This same motor can be used with DeWalt's DW6182 plunge base or their DW6184 two-handle fixed base, and DeWalt has thoughtfully made motor removal and base changing a quick and easy, tool-free operation. As a finishing touch, the toggle switch is sealed against dust penetration, and the cord is fully detachable for use with other DeWalt bases and to protect it in storage. DeWalt's engineers and designers clearly spent a lot of time making sure this router package addressed every need a woodworker could have, and the result is a tool that stands with the best in its price range. --Brian Trinen ... 4-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt DW618D D-Handle Router
I'm a home woodworker and wanted to by a new D-handle router with the latest features. When DeWalt's new line of routers came out, I sprung for the 2-1/4 variable speed model.I'm not a router expert, but loved it from the get-go.It's very comfortable and managable, easy to hold and route with one hand. The detachable cords are a great feature.I just love the variable speed, makes me feel like a pro using this router! Now, I'm also a mechanical engineer and I can be fairly critical with a tool purchase. This DeWalt router does come with a case. And it should, it's a beautiful tool, and I like to keep it that way.The collet lock button is in the most awkward location, hard to get at with even my slender fingers.I think it could have been oriented in a more open direction. And there are no clear plastic side shields to snap in place to limit the extent of sawdust that this router can kick out.My old Sears router has this feature.Would these things have prevented me from buying the router had I done a hands-on before buying?Probably not.I still think DeWalt makes great tools. They just don't take it to 100% to give the woodworker all the creature features. But for all I know, maybe some of these issues exist with other brands of routers at the same category/ price.Knowing things like this ahead of time will at least prepare you for some of the unexpected things that you can probably still accept and claim it as a good purchase as I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great product from Dewalt
I have the Milwaukee D Handled router and I think this is the first serious contender. The Milwaukee is fantastic with all of its well thought out features, but it lacks the power of this 2 1/4Hp beast. I am always interested in Great products despite the brand yet Dewalt makes it hard not to be biased
Dewalt tools have power, nice features and the all important accuracy. This router is no exception. I don't think anybody serious about woodworking will be disappointed. The only downside is the price. It's rather expensive but worth the cost. So try the Milwaukee, I think you'll agree its great, but lacks the power. Milwaukee is...cheaper so it all really comes down to what the intended use is. ... Read more
