I've Got The Edge
I finally tired of having only dull chisels in my workshop. Many had acquired nicks and dings over time but I didn't want to use a standard bench grinder on them and having them sharpened commercially becomes too expensive. My DMT Diamond Whetstone arrived this afternoon and I put it to work right away. I purchased the combination Extra Fine and Coarse model (8" x 2-5/8") so that I could remove nicks more quickly using the coarse side and finish with a really keen edge using the Extra Fine side. Everybody who gets a new tool has to give it a quick "test" right out of the box. My quick test lasted for five dull chisels that are now very, very sharp. I found that the coarse side of the stone removed a few pretty significant nicks in short order. The course side also worked well in flattening the back side of the chisels (a must for a good square edge). Using the extra fine side was a breeze. A few passes were all that was needed. As a testament to the edges, I'm wearing two band aids over cuts received from mere brushes against the sharpened edges. The combination stone is great. Hands Down - Its the BEST
I have used this stone to sharpen at least 100 blades and it still performs like it did on Day 1.This is my 4th Diamond Machine Technology stone.My 1st was/IS a 12 inch extra-fine that is used to put mirror-polished edges on whatever I am sharpening. It still works as well as it did 4 years ago.As with all of DMT's products, the only lubrication used is plain water - no messy oils to contend with, just wipe the excess water off and let air dry when finished.Although a bit pricier than the competition, the monocrystaline diamonds and the thick, rigid, heavy base are well worth the price.I have tried Gerber and Tygersteel stones, and to be honest, they do a fine job - at first, but wear out too quickly.The DMT really has NO competion. Good enough for me
I picked one of these up at a knife show to sharpen my balisong and reshape the blade a bit (balisong blades get bent around a lot, hitting the latch and such.Works great.i hear that the diamond wears off eventually, but i have not had mine long enough for that.The only thing i dont like is that there arent enough grades of stone, so im never quite sure if i have a wire edge or not.regardless, its a quality product. ... Can't go wrong with DMT
I've used these stones before, and they work so well I finally decided to buy one.Like most stones they are a bit expensive, but there isn't anything that will substitute.I bought the fine grit, but will likely buy the medium and coarse some day.Just not today.One at a time makes the "bite" not as hard on the pocket book as buying all three at one time. ...
