Kett , Model K442 16-gauge variable speed shears
For a living , I work with sheets of copper , aluminum , and sheet metal. I started out useing air shears. Then went to a better pair of air shears. They worked ok. But taking the compressor , hoses , etc. to every job site got old in a hurry. Not to mention that the compressor didn't quite keep up with the air shears. After 50+ copper roofs , I thought I would try electric shears. So I did my reserch. These Kett shears were my choice. Let me tell you. These Kett shears make the air shears look sick. No comparison. The Kett shears are variable speed , and very powerfull. Lots of power to spare. No heavy air hose to drag and catch on things. No compressor and hoses to lugg around. Etc. , Etc.. I would recommend these shears to anyone who wants a good quality pair of shears. I rated these shears at a "5" , and now I know why the others had also rated them at a "5". The metal box (an option) is a little big for the shears , but it works. The box is very well built , and is worth the money.

Great Fiber Cement Siding Tool
This shear works great for installing fiber cement.I used it in conjunction with a fiber cement saw to install about 30 squares worth of siding on my home.The only function that it is not really good for is to trim a small amount off of an edge.That is where the saw comes in.It also produces very little dust. ... so far not so good
The first time I used this tool with the nibbler attachment I had a problem with the metal shavings galding to the punch.I have to use tapping compound to keep this from happening. I build metal building and use thistool on rather light,26 and 29 gage sheet metal.I am going to contact thecompany and see if they have any suggestions.

This shear is great!!!
I purchased this shear for a school shop. We have put it through all the paces in the shop.It hasn't faultered once and doesn't show any signs of wear. We have cut 14 all the way down to 22 gauge steel and have not had any issues with it.I talked to several shop owners who use the Kett shears for various materials.None of them had any complaints about the shear.I would talk to people in your area about shears and see what they are using.I am more than impressed with the one I purchased.

My new Kett KE440 shears quit after one hour of use.Motor wasn't getting juice, loose wire.It took Kett an unreasonably long time to turn around the warranty repair, and they had to be called once and asked where is it.Seems the product quality is low, and the people aren't too concerned about their buyers.Buy a DeWalt, I did.

I read the only review of this product before I ordered mine.. and the previous reviewer seems not to like his... so with a slight amount of trepidation I ordered a shear of my own.... ( I already own the 18 guage version and the 16 gage additional head) I am currently working on a project covering skateboard ramps with 14 guage steel to protect them from the elements... I didn't think my 16 guage shear was going to be long for this world using it on the heavier metal...So I got this one... It is doing an awe-inspirng job.... I have used in the past the shears with two jaws... like the Bosch and the Dewalt....and for doing tight radius' they are great... but these cut straight lines effortlessly and will do larger radii quite well. On a skate ramp 5 foot radii would be tight... I am thoroughly satified with these shears and would highly recomend them to anyone...The Variable speed option is great.... I didn't think I would care about it....I would however ..based on my previous experience with Kett products, get a spare set of teeth(jaws?) because surprizes happen... All in all I'm very happy.. Quality Tool for Specific Task
I am building my own home and installing cement fiber siding.I had an eliptical and full circle transom around which I had to install 1/2" Hardi-trim, as well as lap siding and Hardi-shingles.I reluctantly paid the price for this single use tool because I was getting less than satisfactory results around an oval window using just a cement fiber blade in a circular saw, not to mention the cloud of choking dust which I'm sure will cause me cancer some day.One criticism is that the information for this tool does NOT SAY it will cut up to 1/2" fiber cement.It will do this handily.On straight cuts, it's clean and faster than a circular blade.On mild arcs, it works best if you cut from left to right (imagine the blade sweeping clockwise). On more aggressive arcs, it will cut but the end result may need a good bit of clean up with a utility knife.The aggressive arcs also require a good deal more force to make the turns.These comments all relate to 1/2".With standard 5/16" fiber cement siding, this machine cuts like a hot knife through butter.Another thing; I wish I had this tool when I was balanced on a scaffold last week instead of using the circular saw.It's solidly built.I dropped it several times from many feet.It feels competent and comfortable in my hand.I own many power tools and am sick of promised performance.In this case, I would recommend this to professionals as well as those who fear the amateur but very doable task of installing fiber cement siding.Now that I'm done with my project, you can buy mine! ... Nice tool, but buy a couple spare parts too
If you'll only cut thin aluminum or other thin soft metals, this tool should work very well for you. It makes a pretty clean cut, and cuts fast. Will scroll with some effort, but is best in a straight line. Works well to make a panel cutout as well as small shearing jobs.

But be warned: the punch that does the nibbling work is the weak link (probably designed that way, which is smart) so you'll want a couple spares. Its a $3.50 part.

I know this because I'm using the tool for stainless steel, and the punch lasted until I hit an uneven patch of metal, jammed the tool, and the punch snapped in half. Grizzly sent me a replacement punch for free... I also ordered 3 extras, since I can imagine this being a recurring scenario.

Bottom line: Seems to be a nice tool that does what it advertises, though I'm not sure how well it will stand up to long term abuse. At the least have a spare punch at all times, just as you would have a spare blade handy for any other cutting tool.

i am a cabinet installer and counter top fabricator.i bought this shear for trimming laminates......the trimmer head does chip out a little when trimming p/lam.it does trim well but i cannot say that it is top notch..it will do the job for you......and is great for metal.....btu with all p/lambe careful ... One Tough Shear
We use several of these in an industrial manufacturing plant. They are tough, and do the job, year after year. Hey Vicky, to swivel the head, you simply loosen ONE bolt, swivel or rotate the shear head to the desired position, and retighten.

There are three bolts on the shear head. The bolt to loosen is the one that is closest to where the silver colored shear head attaches to the gray body. The wrench should be in the box. Enjoy!

Sheet Metal Muncher
I picked up this tool when I decided it was time to add some metal roofing to my home. It was an obvious choice for the job, and Milwaukee is one of my key brands. This little wonder will mow through sheet metal like nobody's business. It made short work of custom cutting edge trim and holes for vent piping. I'd still be working on that roof job if I was using hand snips. Milwaukee designed this tool right by building it on a drill body. The ergonomics are great. The head can be made to swivel to any desired position by loosening the set screw on the side of the head with the hex key that comes with the tool. Way to go Milwaukee !!

Sometimes that refers to the ease of cutting a circle. I think this version can cut down to a 7" circle without curling up edges. I may be wrong, but that is what I was told years ago. ... Read more

Gauge Set?
I do not know how well this works, however, the picture and title indicates purchaser will receive two items.The title reads:"Malco FCMS Facing Gauge and Overlap Gauge Set."How can a "set" be only one?It is more than misleading, it is blatantly false if purchaser receives only one device.

Great system
This system works great and makes it POSSIBLE to hang siding with only one person working. It works fine as is for ground level work or working from a scafold. I am buying a second set for ladder work so both ends can be supported while go down for my nailer. Well worth the money.

True..the picture is misleading, there is only one of the hangers in the package, and there are times when 2 would be helpful.
