Great when they come with all the parts...
These cabinets are great if they come with all the parts.I ordered three of them with Amazon and all of them came in boxes that were damaged and opened.One of the three did not come with all the parts and did the box was destroyed beyound the ability to use it to ship it back.Amazon was helpful in the return only after I insisted that they take it back instead of making it a rubbermaid issue.

I do have to say that the units that did come with all the parts are working as promised.They are a little rough around the edges since they are formed plastic, but overall I think they are great for general storage purposes.

Product Good Delivery Bad
I ordered three of these cabinets through Amazon since I had bought one previously at Target and liked it.

Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly the product they sold at Target, and not packed the same way either.They all arrived when I was not home and were in boxes that were in such bad condition (due to only 1/8 inch thick cardboard and NO packing material), the UPS man would not even take them to the door, but left them on the driveway.As I tried to take them inside my house, the boxes continued to disintegrate.The front of one box must have completely come off at one point in the shipping process as it was taped on all sides.That box was missing two of the poles needed.Amazon was no help--kept telling me I needed to contact Rubbermaid.The boxes were so bad I couldn't even return the item unless I paid for all new shipping materials.And this would be no small task, as this is a BIG cabinet and one would have to find a very larger container to put these items in so one could take them to a shipping company to properly pack.

I have been buying things for years at Amazon and this truly has been the worst experience to date.

Rubbermaid needs to redesign it's packaging
Although this product is a great storage solution, the packaging is inadequate at best. My unit arrived in a shredded, low-grade cardboard box, with a massive quantity of tape applied by the UPS delivery people. I tried in vain to assemble the unit but the panel corners were crushed. Again, not the fault of Amazon.com but a combination of poor packaging by Rubbermaid and poor handling by UPS.
I'd recommend that you plan on being home when your unit arrives and refuse the delivery if there is any external damage. Once you open this item you'll never get it back in the box. ... Read more

great shelves
I loved these shelves in my garage.They are easy to assemble and hold a ton of stuff.Also amazon has the best price for them and they come right to your front door.Who can beat that?
I say if you need some storage get these.

Great shelves for a great price
I have these shelves in many areas of my home. They work great for holding up heavy items, and they are 24" deep ... which makes them perfect to hold alot of the various storage containers on the market.A major difference between Rubbermaid & all the other shelves out there is that these shelves have more rounded edges, so there is less scratching when trying to reach for stuff in the dark of our shed.Other shelving seems to have a lot of sharp edges just waiting to gouge when you're least expecting it.These shelves still have some sharp spots, but 90% less than other brands

Best shelves ever!!
I couldn't believe how easy these shelves snapped together, and also how much they hold.The only problem I had was with the "free shipping" option.The shelving units were wrapped in plastic secured with flimsy tape, and two of the packages fell apart and arrived with several of the connectors missing.Had to contact Rubbermaid to replace them.Problem was with the packing, not the units themselves.Would definitely recommend the shelves, but not the free shipping for this type of item. ... Don't bother
The doors don't close properly, and are very difficult to open. There is no way to latch the doors, so there is no way to keep children out of this cabinet if you are using it for paints or chemicals.

LAME - DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
It looks great but it does not close properly. The doors remain open at all times even though it is not even full. Don't bother with this.Shop around and find a different one.

Firewood Rack
I especially like that you can build a firewood rack that is 2 tiers.I put the small pieces on top and larger logs on the bottom.It went together in just a few minutes.

Does the job, but does not dazzle
What can you expect from 12 bucks worth of recycled plastic? I guess I'd gone and expected something a little more sturdy and ingenious, and while I was satisfied I was not impressed with what I got. This is simply a couple of plastic brackets that will allow sets of 2x4s to form whatever structure you're building. It'll do the job, but nothing more.

Great product but some important information is missing
Here are the important bits:
- The shelf width is 48"
- The shelf depth is 16"
- The uprights (i.e. the vertical rail into which the shelf brackets are attached) are 25" tall which gives you a little less than 2' of space between your two shelves if you mount them at the extreme top and bottom of each upright
- This set is really 2 separate units each with 2 shelves.The picture just happens to show one unit mounted right on top of the other.
- The Amazon parts list is incorrect.This item comes with 4 uprights and not 2.

I have two of these kits installed in my garage and they're great.They installed fairly easily with just a drill, a level, and some other small tools.I can only assume that the 300 lbs. max load per shelf is accurate because mine are totally loaded up with full cans of paint, washer fluid and other heavy items and they're showing no signs of sagging or pulling away from the wall.

You can buy most of the various bits and pieces of this system at certain hardware and home stores, but you'll be paying a lot more.The 16" shelf brackets alone (8 are included) usually cost $4-5 each. ... Read more

Simple, cheap, and extremely strong
Very strong plastic composite pieces.You definitly need a power saw (miter, table, circular) and an electric drill (about 60 screws that need to go into raw wood).Most efficent build is with just 8 2x4 studs, at least 8'.For a 5.5' ~ 6' shelf, cut 4 pieces of lumber off at 29.5", what is left are the 4 frame lumbers 5'+ and the 4 shorter shelf pieces for the lower 2 shelves.The other 8 pieces cut at exactly 3'.
For $40 (with new wood) I built my first shelf, which I loaded w/ 1,500 lbs of granite, marble, and porceline tile for my next bathroom rip out.NO problem w/ the weight, could easily double that.
I bought 2 more of these kits and the workbench kit (will review that after receiving and assembling).
Width issue is not a concern, I am going to make a 6'x6', the shelves are 4 2x4 studs, no chance of bowing at long lenght.
Understand another reviewer's concerns about the mounts not fitting snuggly, but that is a well thought out plus.You can use scap lumber, which is often bowed due to moisture issues. Plus you do not have to fight to insert the last screws.
To the manufacurer, I would suggest dark colored or black screws and not the shinny silver ones.With stained wood this could be attractive enough for a dorm room or a utility room.
Most important the screws provided are decent grade, have not had one strip off yet, and they provide extras.
Simple and practical product.

Brackets don't fit 2x4's snugly
I was disappointed to see a 1/4" gap between the 2x4 and the bracket on the longer dimension.(My 2x4's are 1-1/2"x3-1/2", but the opening is 3-3/4" wide.)

Need more than a saw and a screwdriver
This is a great product. You can build these shelves with just a saw and a screwdriver, BUT you better have a lot of strength in that screw driving arm, a great eye for right angles, and a lot of time if you plan to cut all of those two-by-fours with a hand saw. I suggest that optimal tools for the job are: tape measure, angle, level, circular saw, and power drill with a phillips head or a power screwdriver.

Instead of buying off the shelf units that may or may not fit the space intended, and which cost substantially more, you can build customized shelves that fit the space perfectly. If you live in an urban area where storage space is tight and getting the most out of every square foot is important, then this product can be useful. I just spent 20 minutes assembling this cabinet. Could not have been simpler. Read instructions , add rubber mallet & presto, instant storage. No finish to scratch , no metal to rust, no hinges to bend. The clutter in my basement is concealed & I know where to find what I need. Tools, paint, shoes & boots, cleaning supplies, all behind nice looking doors. I think it is perfect. It was easy to handle at 50 pounds & I will never have to worry about moisture in my basement affecting it. It is what it says it is & I only regret I paid more for the 3 I bought than Amazon is selling them for.

Disappointing
Not the build-quality you would expect from Rubbermaid; definitely spend your money on something else.UPS delivered this package with their usual finesse - smashed, dented, and broken in a couple places.It is easy to build - no tools needed; and no screws, etc.But the doors do not line up, and the unit really does not 'finish' well.The tubes used to hold the unit together have no cover on top - so I suspect it will fill up with garage gook over time.Costco sells a similar-type unit for a third less of the price and the build seems superior.My two cents here!

Ok, but not the best for the money.
I decided to clean out the garage after being inspired by a friend who was doing the same. He ended up purchasing the Coleman series which is soo much nicer! The doors have actual hinges on them and they look better. I got the father's day special so for the money I can't complain. Except for the shipping. When I saw the box, I thought for sure these were smashed but they were just a little dented. Get ready to tap lightly with a soft hammer. The box says no tools, but don't believe it.Target had a lower price but I didn't want to pick them up. Target also carries the coleman. I'm saving you time and legwork. Spend 30% more and go with the coleman brand unless you have the money to go with Garage Tek look alikes. If I could do this again, I'd spend the 30% more. ... Read more
