1-0 out of 5 stars SOUNDS LIKE THE TORO IS BETTER...
IT DID NOT TAKE TOO LONG TO PUT THIS TOGETHER WHICH WAS ABOUT THE ONLY PRO OF THE THING.THERE WERE NO REVIEWS BEFORE FOR THIS SO I AM GUESSING IT IS A NEW PRODUCT.THE SHUTE SEEMS TO ADJUST BY ABOUT 30 DEGREES SO FOR THE MOST PART, YOU CAN ONLY SHOOT THE SNOW RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.IN ADDITION, I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS 20 FEET NONSENSE, IT SHOT THE SNOW MAYBE 6 FEET, AND THIS WAS DRY SNOW.LASTLY, 3 OF THE 6 SHOOT DIRECTIONAL PANNELS BROKE OFF AFTER 15 MINUTES OF USING IT.I JUST PUT IT AWAY.I AM YET TO FIND A DEALER WHO IS CERTIFIED TO SERVICE IT ON LONG ISLAND NY.IT WILL NOT BE FUN DISASEMBLING THIS THING AND MAILING IT EITHER (ESPECIALLY AT MY EXPENSE) ASSUMING THEY TAKE IT BACK. SO I FIGURE, I CAN EITHER TRY THE TORO POWER CURVE (MOST GAVE THAT A GOOD RATING, THAT IS IF I CAN FIND ONE, I LOOKED EVERYWHERE WITH NO LUCK... WHY COULDN'T THEY MAKE MORE), OR CONTINUE TO ENRICH THE CHIROPRACTOR.SAVE YOUR MONEY THOUGH, LET ME BE THE LAST GUINEA PIG, DON'T WASTE YOUR $$$ ON THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Remember when snow days meant snowball fights, building forts, and a day off from school? Now, they just mean having to shovel the driveway and walkway. Lucky for us, the Toro 1800 Power Curve snow thrower can make that job a lot less arduous and time-consuming. Powered by a 12 amp electric motor, the Power Curve can clear 4 inches of snow off a 50-by-20-foot driveway in 10 minutes flat. The thrower cuts to a depth of 10 inches and width of 18 inches per pass. A patented two-blade curved rotor scrapes the snow all the way to the pavement and throws it up to 30 feet. The chute rotates 160 degrees, too, for better snow control. Best of all, the Power Curve is lightweight, compact, and maneuverable. Startups are easy. Just squeeze the trigger on the control bar, then release it when you want to stop. A key lock helps prevent unauthorized use, so you don't have to worry about kids, or even the neighbor borrowing it without permission. With the Power Curve, snow removal is quick and easy, so you can spend your time on more important things, like having snowball fights. --Carl Thress ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don'tWaste Your Time Or Your MoneyOn This Toro 1800
Generally speaking, I like Toro Products, but in my experience the Toro Power Curve 1800 just doesn't cut it. I use an electric lawn mower in the summer, so I figured I'd try an electric snowblower for winter snow removal. How bad could it be? It was bad. The only thing the 1800 has going for it is its ease of use. There are really no controls to worry about. You provide your own electrical extension cord which plugs into the 1800; then just squeeze the red plastic bar at the top of the handle and you're good to go. It is lightweight, but unfortunately that is its greatest drawback and liability. I am in New England, and the first time I used it with about 4 inches of snow, the 1800 was fishtailing all over the place. It just couldn't handle it. It wouldn't go in a straight line either, and had terrible difficulty overcoming the resistance of a minor snowfall. Believe it or not, the wheels are hollow plastic like the ones you find on a child's toy dump truck. Remember the Tonka Toys? These wheels are useless. The least Toro could have done would have been to use solid wheels that have some heft. Another dynamic that I hadn't anticipated was the difficulty working with a power cord in freezing temperatures. The cord quickly becomes very stiff, unwieldy and uncooperative, and has a mind of its own. A bad scene all around. I returned the 1800 and got back my $329.00. The Toro Power Curve 1800 is nothing more than a glorified electric snow shovel. As much as I was trying to avoid buying a gas engine snowblower, I had to do it, and went with a 5 HP gas snowblower. My snow problems are now solved. Frankly speaking, you will be much better served with a 5 HP gas snowblower from either Toro or Honda - both of which are excellent, and head and shoulders above the electric 1800.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little thrower (consumer magazine was right)
This little snowthrower handles our 3-1/2 car long by 2 car wide driveway quite well and quickly. We're in the Philadelphia area, and this winter we got a few 6+ inch snowfalls. I found it easy to go out and do a pass after about 4-5 inches had fallen, and then a second pass later when more snow had fallen. It handled more when I pushed it, but I found it more convenient to just plan to make 2 passes (separated by 4+ hours).

The aim of the throw is easy to adjust. The unit is amazingly light and manueverable, fit easily into our small 2-car garage (along with 2 cars). No gasoline maintenance hassles. Before buying it, I thought dealing with the extension cord might annoy me, but it really hasn't been an issue.

The bottom line is, it just works, it's simple, and it's fast.

I only have two very minor issues/warnings, and neither detracts from the 5 star rating in my opinion, since they are both easy to avoid.

1- If your municipality throws cinders on the road and the end of your driveway, you may not want to run the Toro over the cinders. The cinders are SHARP and one got embedded into the plastic, jamming the unit. I easily fixed this myself once I put the unit back in the garage for an hour or two so the snow melted off and I could see why it was jammed.

After that happened, I decided to just use a shovel on the last 2-3 feet of driveway if the township has already dumped cinders. (I'd rather shovel a couple feet than risk damaging the thrower--and possibly be without it for the next snowfall--and have to dislodge the cinder. Other folks may choose to live with the occaisional jam.) If the township hasn't dumped cinders, I'll use the thrower everywhere, and it even handles the plow crud.

2- The mouth of our driveway is only maybe 7 feet from our neighbor's driveway, though most of the length of the driveway, it's much farther from the neighbor's driveway (both driveways are angled).

When I get near the mouth of the driveway, if I'm not careful, this unit throws the snow TOO FAR, into my neighbor's driveway! I don't want to be a rude neighbor, so I found that with a little practice, "pulsing" the electric motor reduces the throw enough to get the snow to land in the grass between drives. Now that I've practiced the pulsing a bit, it's easy. I imagine that just about any thrower (gas or electric) would have this problem--and I bet that an electric is easier to "pulse" to avoid this problem than a gas thrower is.

5-0 out of 5 stars works as good as all the reviews say
I have used the toro twice once on 4 inches of snow and once on 7 inches of snow and it clean down to the pavement with little or no effort. The snow was wet and heavy on the 7 inches and it cleaned and threw the snow with no problem. The cord was less of a problem then I thought it would be,and the low handle did not bother me at all. I am 6 foot tall and never gave the handle a second thought. I also like the idea of just pluging it in and getting to work. A great machine for the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!!
I recently acquired a house with a LOT of area to be shoveled. Given how horrible this winter has been, my new Toro power shovel has seen a lot of action. I call it my little bully! It blows easily through snow as long as it's about 5" high or less, and even handles heavy, wet snow. It's tough and takes a good beating! The only problem was putting it together -- you have to stretch the handle over the cord in a way that's pretty difficult and could potentially break. It's also necessary to wrap the extension cord around the handle so it doesn't come out of the plug. All told, it's worth every penny. I had another Toro product (a leaf blower) that had a problem; they not only shipped me an entire new unit, but refunded the return shipping cost *and* the cost of my extension cord that was damaged when the leaf blower failed. I'm a Toro customer for life!

5-0 out of 5 stars My hero
Here in Saint Louis we don't get a lot of real heavy snowfalls, but we do get snow every winter! This shovel has been a lifesaver, especially since I badly hurt my knee last winter (walking on ice - heh!). This snow shovel has made it super easy to clear driveways and walkways of snow (best under 8") with ease. I have an incredibly steep driveway which is impossible to plow, but this shovel clears it out with no problem. The spout throws the snow pretty far too, maybe 10-12 feet or more depending on the angle - which is pretty cool as well! I highly recommend this product, especially with snow season just around the corner!

4-0 out of 5 stars Blessing for NYC snow storms
My husband being a NYC Sanitation worker abandons me when there is the slightest threat of snow. When the storm does arrive, I am left to shovel 2 driveways, walkways and sidewalks as we own two homes. This item literally saved my back! The snow only throws forward so be sure to plan where you throw it so you dont do double the work or agitate a neighbor!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
Too many weak points. The assembly instructions are not very good. The wheels keep popping off, and you have to stop, find the plastic caps (which are white, btw) in the snow to put them back on. Just buy something else.

1-0 out of 5 stars One more failed snow shovel
This was one of about 4 different shovels my wife bought over the past 3 years. It's a good idea with too many faults.Because it is an assembled item, it has too many weak points making it almost flimsy. Two days after we received this shovel, my neighbor bought a Snowmaster Snowscoop, it is what these guys should have made, one piece orange scoop with a wheel...best snow shovel ever.Check them out first...wish I did.Happy shoveling!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Snow shovel
I wonder how I lived so long without it!I'm able to clear my driveway in half the time.On heavy snow I still use my snow blower but the shovel is a lot quicker most days.I like the metal blade - it scrapes right down to the driveway. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great machine for moving a lot of snow !!!!
I was reciently in the market for a new snowblower , I had just sold a 10hp mtd snowblower . I wanted something newer and more reliable . Living in eastern Canada we are acoustomed to large snowfalls of 50cm or more , three feet or more . I wanted a big rugged machine . After doing some research and looking at different models I chose the yardman 13hp 33"cut model . The store I purchased it at gave me the machine for $300.00 less by just asking the store manager .
I have used the machine now to clean my driveway about 6 times now , and snow removal is now fast, fun, and efficient . The yardman is a big brute of a machine with lots of power . No comparisan to my old machine . Also this unit has power steering which makes the big snowblower handle great . You also have locking controls on the auger , so you can adjust the shute without stopping . You could handle this unit with one hand .
Also starting is easy with electric start , but even on the coldest days one pull will bring this machine to life !
I think this is a great snowblower and one that will last me for years .

2-0 out of 5 stars Be wary of MTD quality control
We purchased an MTD snowblower(13 HP Tecumseh Snow king engine with a 33" cut)via an Amazon affiliate: The ToolShed in North Dakota. This particular model was manufactured in Canada and shipped to us last year.Unfortunately in SE Idaho we were experiencing a drought and did not have a chance to test it. This year has been dramatically different. As I write this review,a blizzard is howling outside with gale force winds. My wife and myself spent $1500 dollars on machine with piss poor quality control. The headlight shorts out causing sparking between the shift handle and the notched stop.Remedy:disconnect it for the time being. The right hand axle coming off the differential was never drilled to accept a shear bolt, consequently the right hand auger never functioned. Remedy: Spend one and one half hours and three carbide bits later drilling through a hardened steel axle. Fortunately MTD supplied extra shear bolts with this model. The lever that adjusts the angle of the discharged snow at the chute does not work. A retaining bolt that connects this lever with a plastic cam is missing.Moving the lever up and down causes the tip of the discharge to do the same.Remedy: jury rig it for the time being. No where in the operators or the engine manual are there any instructions on identifying the oil drain plug and how much oil to add.We had to go the Ariens web site to access this piece of info.Once this machine is up and running, it is an absolute beast. With both augers functioning it will hurl wet snow 20-30 feet in the air without bogging down. With the Snow Hog tires and independant traction control this 250# machine is easy to wheel around. It steers like a bulldozer. The adage "you get what you pay for" certainly holds true. Other snow blowers with this size engine:Toro, Simplicity,Ariens and Honda will cost in excess of $2000.In hindsight, it might have been worth the extra $500.

3-0 out of 5 stars no brakes
I just baught this product. I have a very long sloping driveway. When I tried the snow thrower my first problem was to stop the thing from rolling down my drive way. Given that the snow thrower is about 400lbs some kind of braking machanism would really help. I guess most of the kind do not have brakes. So be careful, if you have to deal with slopes buy a lighter one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Saver
I bought one of these before I left for my 6 week Arctic expedition. After 5 straight days of snow, I used the Avalanche roof rake to get the snow off of the roof of my Ice Cat. Without the Avalanche Roof Rake, the roof would have collapsed under the weight, and myself and the other scientists would have been crushed under the weight of the snow.

The only criticism I have is that even with the extension pole, I still needed to climb on top of the Ice Cat tread to reah the roof.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I purchased this product approximately a week ago and I am disappointed with this products performance. I have used the product twice now and I now have HALF the roof rake that I purchased.

When I received the product I took it out of the box and was quite pleased with the overall product that I purchased. Given that the construction was all aluminum and seemed sturdy I felt that I had a tool that I could depend on. The first time that I used it I cleared off my roof and the product worked well. I noticed that the long pole that connects the rake flexed quite a bit while I raised the rake to the roof to clear swaths of snow. I considered that this could eventually be a problem with more use but I though that the poles appearing sturdy would have a long life. Overall the first use went well.

The second use, I started clearing my roof and I noticed that the pole that I hung onto started to bend. After taking another swipe of snow the pole broke in half. Thinking that this could be a defective pole, I took the pole out and used the rake with one less pole. Again, the pole bent and broke. I now have half the snow rake that I bought just a week ago.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am getting tired of manufacturers flooding the market with products that appear to be quality, fetch a quality price and end up being junk.

Stay away from this product! I don't think that my rake was defective. I think that it is just under engineered.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not much left of it after 2 uses
It started with one of the wheels shattering (it's still there - just square). Then I lost almost all of the bolts even though I tightened them securely according to directions. The left brace is somewhere on my roof - hopefully I'll find it in the spring. The locking button froze when I tried to add another length to reach higher.I was using it on what the meteorologists are calling "champagne powder" when it started to disintegrate. It WAS effective in clearing a lot of the snow but I had to rebuild it first. ... Hooray for me.I must have got the last one on Amazon.Just used it a few days ago.I am a 5'4 female and was able to handle it no problem. Now for the best-This REALLY does move large amounts of snow off the roof, fast, effecient and it does not fall on you.Goes right down the plastic. The first snow I tried it on was very wet and heavy. Will probable be a breeze w/the lighter stuff. I still can't believe it works as well as it does.Even if you can't find one on sale, Pay the 99.00 and rejoice.

Our snow fall has exceeded 195 inches to date and I have had to remove snow from the roofs of our home and garage twice. The Avalanche make this easy. However, I have a problem. I need to replace the plastic slide sheets on each of my avalanches (I own two) as they are badly torn because of excessive use. My avalanches are the true originals. The plastic slide sheets are 21 3/4 inches wide and I have had no success in finding replacements. I would appreciate any assistance I can get in locating slide sheets with this dimension. Other than this problem, the Avalanche is a wonderful snow removal tool. ... Read more

I measured my snowblower (an Ariens 824) to see if it fit the advertised dimensions of this cover. It seemed like my blower would be a little too big for it, but I ordered it anyway. It's a tight fit, but it seems to be just about right. So don't worry if your blower is a little bigger than the dimensions in the specs, but it shouldn't be too much bigger.

Quality of the cover is good---it is made from a tough material, has shock cords to wrap around the handles, wheels, etc, and has a built-in storage bag.The price might be a little high for what is essentially a fitted tarp, but it is good protection for my expensive blower. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How to stay warmer and dryer while snowblowing!
I bought this snow cab for my new Troy-bilt 8526 snowthrower and am very happy with it. I would not say it bolts right on but the manufacturer does supply plenty of assorted size mounting hardware that the average putz - myself included - should be able to adapt it to most units. Just dont expect it to install in minutes! It is a one size fits all after all! I was a little unsure about how this would work but the first time I used it and did not get snow in my face it was worth it. Snow doesnt really stick to the windows either so it is easy to see out of.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great product more useful than you know
I bought this before the snow flew thinking it was not going to be as effective as it has proven to be.
    On the assembly 3 stars:
Once reading the instructions thoroughly several times actual assembly proved fairly easy, my only problem was that the parts ziplock type bag was open somehow during shipping and all the parts were everywhere inside the box I carefully gathered all the nuts and bolts while carefully pulling the framing and cover out of the box for this part of the snow cab I have to give a 3 star since many parts could have been lost.
    On product usage 5 stars:
By the first real snow here in MI as I got behind my snowblower and proceeded to remove snow from my 260' drive I instantly realized the benefit of this snow cab. My winter jacket was dryer and my face was not frozen off, or the gap between my neck and scarf filled with snow and wind blowing back at me, and I could see much better too. I am amazed how well and how much more I enjoy using my snow blower with this device. I highly recommend this to anyone. After much shopping around I have also found this to be cheaper here at amazon $79.99 than anywhere else other stores want atleast $100.00 for this same item, so shop around if you must but I think you will find its the best price here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shipped fast, Fit extremely well
Received this item extremely fast. As an universal fit item I was a tad apprehensive, however this item was easy to install and the instructions where flawless.I would recommend this product and vendor to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars life saver!
Wow, what a machine, I just used this snowblower for the first time yesterday and today and boy is it a life saver!!! I have used other high horsepower blowers but the two features that are above and beyond are the power stearing and the heated hand warmers. After a short learning adjustment time, I was able to clear about 12 inches of snow from 3 properties (both my neighbors snow blowers broke down) in no time flat. The power steering made it a cinch to turn or even just slightly adjust the direction I wanted to go (the machine does all the work for you) and the hand warmers, though not a necessity, allowed me to not have to wear gloves. I totally recommend this machine to anyone who wants to make it easier on themselves. ... Read more
