5-0 out of 5 stars Hands free light
I purchased this primarily for back packing trips. Works great. Still on the same batteries after 3 trips. Clips anywhere. Hat, tree, pack and gear loops inside of tent. Includes head strap, which also works well. A must have backcountry light.

1-0 out of 5 stars Clip broke
I liked this for the clip, had it clipped onto suspenders. When I reached for it one time, the clip broke and it slipped from my hand into the water. It was not on, so I did not know where it fell in the murky water, and it was a bit deep, so I was not going to fish around looking for it.I will not get this again. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good utility.
A well-made accessory for use with Panasonic battery packs. It could be improved by use of LED's instead of incandescent bulbs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Shame about the egonomics!
I bought my lantern in 1996 and use it often. It still has the original bulb (my mini-maglite bulbs sometimes only last a few weeks) so either the bulbs are really good quality or the electronic module (which reduces the voltage to around 7.2volts) gives a really steady voltage. The lamp in this and the 15.6v lantern is 7.2v, 0.75amp. The beam of light is very focused and shines for well over 100 metres (330ft).
However I find the handle is almost useless. When the lantern is carried by the handle it seldom points where required. If I try tilting it, the spring loaded handle snaps around to the next position (especially with the newer heavier batteries - and Panasonic withdrew the lighter C battery earlier this year).Fortunately I have long fingers and can grip the unit around the battery, which enables me to direct the beam where I want it (and is also steadier than using the handle), but I wouldn't recommend the lantern to anyone whose hands aren't big enough to grip it in this way - make sure you try it before you buy it!
I replaced the rubber switch cap with a new one late last year (2001) after the original perished.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Bulky
I bought this lantern to go with my 12v drill/driver that I have been using many years.Everything works fine, but the unit is much too bulky to include in my toolbox, so it gets left at home. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing that some re-engineering couldn't fix.
The saw is great, the light needs a little work. Unlike what the picture implies, the light fastens at the very back of the saw. The light extends out straight to the front of the saw. Given how far out it has to stretch and with the weight of the light fixture attached, it should be stiffer. After running the saw for a while, the light actually starts to droop down. You have to keep pushing it up. The size of the light head is nice as you can get close to your work without the fixture obstructing your view. The downside of the fixture size is that the bulb is difficult to screw in. There's no room to get your fingers around the bulb. I finally taped a piece of masking tape to the front lens so I could screw it in. I'm not looking forward to replacing the bulb, I don't know how I would loosen it. The unit is made in China but is well constructed. Nothing sloppy about it. Bolts on the saw perfectly using the two rearmost bolts that are already on the saw. The hex key they provide could be a little better fit but it did work. All in all the concept is a good one. It's a nice accessory to have, makes cutting a lot easier. I hope Dewalt will re-engineer it and bring it up to the standard of their scroll saw.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great saw but don't buy the light
The saw is great the light is not. The light does not stay adjusted as the saw is used.It is virtually impossible to replace the bulb. If you can get the bulb out, finding a replacement is difficult.Don't bother to order the light! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars 1 Time Use Disposable Headlamp
Do not buy this product unless you plan on tossing it away after on use. This is one of the most useless headlamps I've ever used. I've gone through 2 of them already and have only used them one time each and now they are not working. Not only it breaks, but the batteries are very difficult to replace. It takes 3 tiny screws on the side that you have to undo before replacing the battery. The battery's life using the Krypton is maybe 1 hour long (if your lucky) before it gets too faint. This product is crap, and I'm sure there other products are crap as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great all-purpose light
I'm addicted to this light.I got it mainly because I wanted an efficient bike light and an occasional headlamp for camping.I bought the bike attachment ($5.00) and ended up using it almost every day in the winter, since I commute to work and school by bike.Definitely bright enough for conservative biking in the pitch dark (and lasts maybe 10 hours on the bright setting), and the strobe is awesome for city riding--you'll never not be seen again (I'm constantly "almost hit" by cars who don't see smaller bike lights)!!After parking the bike, the light clips off and goes in my bag.Because of this, I always have the light with me, which has made it useful in so many situations where I unexpectadly needed a light.

The light was so great, I bought a second for my fiancee when she went to Africa with the Peace Corps. As she often is without power, and decent batteries are hard to come by, she says that this light has been a real lifesaver.I brought mine when I came to visit, and we were using them all the time.I expect the same when she returns and we go camping. The thing is, when you have a light that runs for 150 hours on 3-AA batteries (on the low setting, which is plenty enough for walking around or reading), you leave it on and use it a lot.Contrast to the old days of the C-Cell flashlights that you had to use sparingly during those late nights in the tent--since you knew the batteries would run out quick. We even used the great red LED for reading the starcharts for the southern hemisphere. What a great extra to add to the light.

Other reviewers did a great job on the other points, so I won't bore you here. But one thing I'll mention about customer service:I originally bought the very first version of this light, which had some problems. The latch on the battery box was flimsy.LRI, without question, sent updated boxes to all registered owners.I then had a problem with electrodes contacting correctly.I called and they said I could return for a repair/replacement, but unfortunately, it would take a few weeks, since they were backordered--but they gave me an option of having the owner of the company talk to me and tell me how to fix it myself.1/2 hour later and it was working, and I didn't have to wait 2 weeks. Everything was fine for 1 year, and then the switch stopped working correctly (Mind you, this is daily use on a bike in rain, snow, hail, etc).I unfortunately had to return the unit.Less than a week later, the brand-new, updated version arrived on my porch, no questions asked. It's been another year of biking and bad weather, and the light (updated version has had none of the problems of the original version, plus it has the red LED) is still working beautifully.

If you want a good, all-purpose, efficient light, then this is definitely the one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most versatile headlamp I own!
One of my favorite headlamps to date! The packaging of the item is nice - it comes with a small nylon carry bag (with a nice drawstring closure) and a belt clip, in addition to the head strap. The instruction sheet is short, but well written and very detailed.

The unit itself is a nice resin plastic material. All the contacts are gold plated - so if they get wet, they shouldn't corrode. The head may be removed and put on the end to act as a flashlight. The head swivel adjustment has a nice detente "click" feel to it. Only two of the click positions are useful as a headlamp, unlike some others that have a finer adjustment - 7 clicks moves the head 180 degrees - so that's around 25 degrees per click. (NOTE: I adjust the position of the straps on my head for optimum lighting, then use the swivel if you are looking at something overhead). The adjustment is smooth and even.

With AA alkaline, it isn't too heavy on your head (heavier than the black diamond moonlight, but lighter than the petzl led duo). The light pattern is a nice even pattern - brighter than the black diamond moonlight, about the same as the petzl duo (close enought really). The switch mechanism has a nice positive "click" feel to it (just like a rubber button push button on a normal flashlight). The adjustments for illumination are great - you can choose your illumination level - at lower levels, all 7 leds are still lit, they are just pulsed very fast, so that even though it is low illumination, it is still very broad and even.

The addition of a red LED that can be used separately from the other 6 white LEDs is really nice to have. The "hyper-bright" or whatever mode it is can be useful if you like using the headlamp at low to mid settings, then have a temporary bright light. I don't find it useful, but some people think it's neat.

This lamp is good at illuminating objects 30-40 feet away. Better than the black diamond moonlight, and about the same as the petzl 5-led duo.

The headband material is a bit cheap - meaning it is a very coarse weave, and might irritate those with sensitive scalps (or bald heads, shaved heads, etc). Not as nice a fabric band as the black diamond moonlight. Petzl's is better too.... but - I just wear a hat if it becomes bothersome. The straps are nice and wide, and can be adjusted to fit comfortably. The unit is light and the straps are wide, so it stays put on your head.

The battery compartment is a bit annoying to operate - the catch looks like it could break if you pried really hard - but snapping it on -off-on-off-on-off repeatedly doesn't seem to bother it. I would rather have a beefier catch mechanism, but I got spoiled by the PETZL design.... The door itself appears to have a rubber seal, so it may be very water resistant - I don't think this thing is waterPROOF, but I don't know (the packaging does not specify). It's not an underwater light for sure!

Converting it to the flashlight mode is simple - there is a large "thumb screw" that you can loosen and move the head to the end of the unit. very quick and very well thought out design. I don't use this, I have my streamlight 4AA instead :) but it's a neat feature. Stand it on end on a table, then tilt the head to the desired angle for reading, working on something, etc. Makes it more useful.

Bottom line: If you don't want a dual headlamp design (halogen and led) - want to save a little weight, this is a GREAT headlamp. Very bright and useful. RED single LED mode is cool. Different settings are great. Adjustments are easy. Headband is comfy enough (some people might be bothered by the scratchy material on the headband - just wear a hat). Comes with a little carry bag and a belt clip. Great for projects around the house - hiking after dark - being a geek in general (hey - show up to a premier of a star wars or LOTR movie with the strobe a flashin' - you're the life of the party!).

Already have a headlamp? Get this kind as a spare. Light, comes with it's own carry pouch, very versatile. A definite 5-star product. Get one today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent lamp
Three of my Delta tools have this lamp installed. The 17-925 drill press, a 14" band saw (older version of the 28-475), and a (now discontinued) scroll saw.In each case, the lamp is just what the doctor ordered. The bracket easily attaches to many Delta tools, the goose-neck is about the right length and stays put when you move it into position, the switch works flawlessly with a nice click, and the shade completely covers the bulb.To keep the lamp shade cool, I use 30 or 50 watt mini flood bulbs, but standard bulbs up to 50 watts work OK.(Delta's similar 28-857 lamp has a longer goose-neck section, but has a "universal" bracket.)

This lamp isn't cheap, but it's well made.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but does the job
I owned this light for about a day or two.It came in the accessory kit for the Delta Band Saw Kit.This light is designed to mount permanently on a fixed location on the saw.Unfortunately the light's gooseneck is short and does not meet the lighting needs for band sawing.I took it back and replaced it with a magnetic base light.Much more versitile, and cheeper too.Now I am considering the 25-858 light for a uniguard.Seems like it might be just what the Dr. ordered since the mounting brackets will position the light right above the blade.Still costs about 2 x what it should, but it is Delta and you know how that goes.OEM products ususlly cost more, but they fit just right. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I own the Streamlight Stinger/rechargeable with the regular 25,000 candlepower (CP) lens.I then bought the 40,000 CP adapter ($35.00) to improve the performance and increase the power of my Stinger.I was disappointed immediatelly:the additional 15,000 CP that came with the new broad head lens and the new larger bulb seem to be almost unnoticeable. No one I worked with could tell the difference. Also, the light seems to wear out faster (low runtime) and tended to shine in a more yellow hue which is less effective than the white hue of most high performance lights.By adding the new broad head adapter lens and larger bulb my Stinger became an HP, but in the end I, as well as others, noticed it was not any better and probably not as efficient. ...
