Overall...Pleased with the purchase.
I bought this kit after comparing Ridgid, Dewalt, Milwaukee, and Craftsman, (and of course, the lower priced kit from Black/Decker, Ryobi, Bosch, Skil, etc., but those kits I found in my area shyed me away because of longevity versus price.)
I found the Makita 6-1/2" circ. saw the best on the market. The safety button is definitly the easiest to use while holding it at any angle. The saw is very well balanced. Height, angle, and rip fence settings are very easy to do. On-board allen wrench storage makes for quick and easy blade changes. One drawback is the lack of a dust exhaust chute, causing the cut line to get covered (directly in front of the saw) after about 5 feet of ripping a 4x8 sheet.
The recip-saw is a well balanced saw also. It features tool-less blade and rest-shoe changes. The motors for both of these saws provide plenty of cutting power. The safety button for the recip-saw isn't as superior as the circ-saw is, as it can be more difficult to engage at certain angles. Being able to depress it from either the left or the right is about its only savior in those situations.
The drill is excellent. Very well balanced, and light weight for an 18 volt, (versus others I compared). Powerful, but slightly in need of a little more torque. Drove 3-1/2 and 4 inch screws easily while I was framing a house, but I did find it to have less torque than the Dewalt counterpart we were also using, but not enough that I would throw the Makita away and replace it with a Dewalt. Drill/Driver clutch lock-out and speed settings very easy to engage. Foward/Reverse switch easily located at the side of the trigger, (not like the Makita 9.6V stick battery drill I have).
The flashlight....well, it's a flashlight. What do you want ? At first I thought of removing it from my kit altogether, but it does come in handy when crawling into the dark voids of someones attic.
The case is nicely made, holding all the tools tightly in their spots, (even while rolling down the hill). Storage for recip and circ blades, as well as a (1) battery molded in. The other battery is stored by leaving it in the drill or the saws, but not the flashlight. Spot for the charger also, as well as some driver bits and a quick change coupler. A little extra room also allowed me to store small drill bit kits inside.
It would have been nice if Makita would put a third or even a fourth battery in the kit, but no other manufacturer I found does either. The 2 batteries are powerful, and long lasting though. Two should get you through a days work.

UPDATE: 2 batteries should be enough for a day if you are not constantly using the tools all day long. Recommend charging them at the end of the day to be ready for the next day, but not always necessary. If you are framing a house or something like that, you'll probably charge them once or twice (using 3 to 6 batteries a day, but that's the drill and both saws humming along). Consider getting another drill kit or something that is also 18V(2.6ah at least). I bought another 6347D drill kit, as it came with 2 more batteries and another charger. Better deal than buying everything separately.
Also, the drill that came in this 4 piece kit was made in Feb. 2003, as per the date code on it (date code is 03.02). I have had no problems with this drill what so ever. The date of the drill that was purchased separately is Nov. 2003 (03.11), and I have found that Makita had a bad batch produced during the end of 2003. I know of 3 other people that bought theirs at the same time I did, and had the same failure I did. Transmission broke. To be honest, the transmission probably had a flaw, but it broke when a co-worker was mixing (dry powder type) thin-set. He should have used a corded, heavy duty drill.
Next....If you're like me, and just couldn't stand the safety button on the recip-saw any longer, remove the lock and spring from inside the trigger housing area. Remove the retaining screws on the back "half" and the housing will come apart easily. I also took a Dremel grinder to the area where the battery is inserted, to make battery removal easier. A little too much plastic in that area when it was molded, and made battery removal difficult. An alternative is to loosen the 2 screws closest to the battery opening a little bit.
A note on the circ-saw...use a plywood/veneer blade (I think mine is 100 or 140 tooth) backwards to cut vinyl siding. Works great. Just put a scrap board underneath for support. ... Read more

I love my beltless bag system.
I could not be without this handy system. It did take a while to break in and get used to but it is well worth it. I do not recommend it, however, for any interior work because it is wide and tends to bump and scrape stuff. As for framing, siding, metal roofing, etc. it is the perfect system. It allows you to carry a multitude of tools, mine typically weighs in at 90+lbs., with minimal strain to your back. Don't get frustrated with it when you first try it because it is way different than wearing a tool belt. I was unsure about it for the first week or two but grew to love it. Don't waste your money on the cheaper beltless bag systems they are not comparable to the quality and ruggedness of this system. You do get what you pay for.

Take Carefull Consideration!!
I purchased this belt set last January and I was impressed with how it relieved the stress on my lower back.I was also relieved of waist rot from conventional tool belts.The suspenders were easy to set up with the instructions included.Break in takes about a full week.Pouches do hold lots of tools.
As hotter weather came along, the suspenders hold a lot of sweat (later they began to smell).But I also noticed it was very uncomfortable when the suspenders wouldn't allow for your upper body to cool off.My shoulders also began to chaf.
As for movement, the system doesn't cling to you. But working in very close quarters, (i.e. lifts, steel joists, some scaffolding,etc.) it was easy to get hung up and scrape against walls.
I am considering selling my suspension belt, but pondering the fact that its not a bad set to own if you switch between this system and the belt a few times a year.That way I wouldn't wear out body parts to quickly.

I owned the pro framer for years; then sold it to a helper for $... and he was happy. I bought the Pro Trimmer but was disapointed because the speed square holster (between the small and large bag) was not available on a rig of this size. After awhile I forked over the big bucks for the Stronghold System-the best there is. Oh I've read the reviews:adjustment-if you can't adjust this system you probably shouldn't be doing carpentry;the yoke; heavy duty, extreme quality products take time to break in-like good leather work boots or the Carhartts that last longer than anything else; the back strain relief; a no brainer-buy a weight belt and wear it along with the system-there is no belt to interfere; lastly, if you wear a framing belt in a finished house or around cabinets your going to mess something up-don't do it-I build cabinets and built-ins and do general carpentry for a living. The only criticism I have(the part about the missing star)is that this product should be available with the lightweight, green leather bags. After 1 year the nylon shows signs of extreme wear at the front corners. If Occidental Leather would do this for us I would be one of the first to buy them even for $... . Stay Away! Less effective than cooler!
I bought the vector cooler warmer (16 can version, same item), and tried it out. The metal element inside got cold, but it couldn't chill a small bottle of water after 3 hours- no way it was40 degrees belwo my room temp of 75 degrees. No wonder this thing is always on clearance. It did a little better on metal cans of soda directly touching the element, but not by much. The manual says for best results the food should be put in cold, or with an icepack, but as soon as it's shut off theres no insulation to keep the food cold, so the food quickly reaches room temp, according to the manual! Besides if I have to put in pre-chilled food andicepacks Im beter off using my insulated cooler which works, and is much more space efficient! Plus, the cooler only ostensibly brings the temp down to up to 40 degrees below ambient temp ( after 3 hours). I guess in a car where the temps go up to 130 degrees in the sun it would keep the food at 90 or so. I bought it forfifteen dol. on clearance , but returned it today. It simply wasn't worth the price. I would stay clear of this product. The only exeption I can think of is for someone who needs it only for metal cans of soda or beer and can wait several hours for a cool drink, although a cooler would still be more practical and cost effective. ... So far, so good; bring on the ice
I bought this Mini Dozer because it is compact, I didn't want it cluttering up my already cluttered up pickup. I've had a few chances to use it these past couple of weeks. The ice I've used it on was no match for it, but I haven't had a chance for the type of ice that you get with freezing rain; some of the toughest to remove. Can't wait....(What am I saying!?!?)
Maybe the brush is a little small for snow removal, but it is compact. Which is why I wanted it.

Let Me Down When I Needed It
This product seemed like a great idea, especially for the less mechanically inclined members of my family. In 2002, I bought 5 of these, 4 for Christmas gifts and 1 for myself. Last night, my battery died and I needed to use it for the first time. It didn't work! Nothing happened. Thank goodness the other motorist who offered the jump had a set of traditional jumper cables in her car. Of course, it's now over a year later and it's too late to return it. All I can do now is warn the other family members not to rely on my gift.

Jump Start thru cig-lighter
The name is misleading in that you aren't "Jump-starting" your car. The current that a dead battery draws off of a running (donor) car will never make it through the cigarette lighter's fuse-protection. The fuse is there in case of a short that would melt wires, and in this case, it would detect the current as a short and blow the fuse.

But the charging aspect seems straight-forward

I thought this idea was so great I bought 5 to give as Christmas gifts. People were really excited to get them and thought it was a neat idea. However, jump starting your car isn't something you necessarily do on Christmas morning -- or even the following month.

When we finally had occasion to use them, two turned out to be DOA -- entirely non-functional, and the other three were ineffective. Of course, by that time the Amazon 30-day return policy had kicked in, and my stocking stuffers had turned into trash can stuffers. My suggestions for this product fall into three categories:

1. If you buy it, don't wait until you need it to try it out.

Lacking a critical feature... it moves around!!
This product has an internal flaw since it doesn't stay still!Isn't the point that it needs to be perfectly kept still for you to get the "same place" parking?Anyway, I threw mine out it was so bad... now I got the ParkingTarget, which was an adhesive strip on the bottom of it, so it stays in place.That one works much better (you can find them at parkingtarget.com).

Not happy
Like the others I find that this doesn't stay still.Every time we park the car it slides forward.I tried duct taping it to the floor of the garage - that helps but it still needs to be adjusted every few days.

Very nice tool
This sander does everything it is supposed to do. I use it primarily on hardwoods (cherry, oak) with 80-220 grit sandpaper. It has handled everything I've asked it to do without complaint. Contrary to others, the dust collection seems to work. Of course it is not as clean as using a vacuum. But there is always a substantial amount of dust in the canister.

So far so good
I do finish work for a living. 99.999% of everything I do is new. So it doesn't stip layers of paint, or stain and lacquer. But when it comes to sandingwoods or fillers it is a hawg. When you're working in a house and dust is floating in the air, any dust collection is better than nothing. With cannister off, a dust cloud is very evident. It is made in the USA, cheaper than competitors, and so far held up to the jobsite. It is quiter than both 1/3, and 1/4 sheet sanders I have. When I first used one, I was impressed on how effortless it was to sand with it.

Excellant Sander with a Short Life
The performance of this sander is excellant.It removes material evenly and quickly with out leaving swirl marks when finish pass is taken with 220 grit pad.The dust collection canister works fair trapping roughly about 40% with the other 60% going elswhere.After about a year of moderate use the hook & loop pad wore out and had to be replaced.Shortly after that the motor started surge-ing followed by failing to wind up when needed on another project.This is a nicely designed sander, I think Porter Cable needs to re-evaluate the supplier of the motor as I believe the armature has burned out prematurely. Nice item for the price
Can't tell if it's really hardwood, but it looks just fine and does what it's supposed to. Really a bargain.

A couple of minor negatives: The brass hardware is a bit flimsy.It doesn't have any kind of "feet" so the brass corners will scratch the tabletop/desk it's placed on. One of the plates the pull knobs are attached to came loose, but it was easy to fix.

Pleasantly surprise, good for embroidery floss
I was a little worried about this cabinet after I read some reviews for this one and the other Sisco hardwood cabinet that amazon sells. I was amazed at how nice it was when it came.It was packaged well, and it was heavy and sturdy.The wood looks nice.The stain was maybe a little more orange than I would like, but it isn't "orange" per se.I'm thinking I could take some Old English stain cover and rub it on, and see if that darkens it at all.The grain looks nice.The hardware is fine.The drawers glide smoothly, but one of the rails had loosened during shipping (hence 4 stars).It isn't a big deal as it is easily glued in place.The BEST part of this chest is the function!I have been able to put the entire collection of DMC embroidery floss in this small chest.It is swell, and the price is unbeatable.I'm a happy camper, and relieved at the quality of piece.

Nice chest....
Recieved this as a xmas gift....it got opened a little early. This is just the ticket for storing my marking gauges, dial calipers, saddle squares and other small tools I use a lot. They all seem to get buried in my large tool chest and I am constantly searching for them. Now they have their own space.
I make boxes and have been planning on making a chest like this to hold all those small tools, just never seemed to get around to it. This little chest fills the bill. It is pretty solid and the fit and finish is pretty good. The hardware is not top of the line but considering that it will just sit on the bench, they should be more than adequate. The flock lining is an added bonus, soft bed for those expensive small tools. It has more than enough storage for all those tool's I mentioned and a few more. This is a nice addition to my shop.
Could I make a better one?..Yes...but not for anywhere near what this one cost and it would just do the same duty. I will use this chest until it wears out...then make one. Shouldn't take but 20-30 years to wear this one out. Many thanks to the gift giver. Recommend this one. ... Read more

Easy of use makes this a winner
While I purchased this tool for its angle cutting ability, I was pleasantly surprised by its ease of use which translates into finishing the job far quicker than with other tools.Positioning the cutter from below is a snap.

After years of using traditional pole cutters that must be hooked over the top of the branch, using this stick is a breeze.Just come up from below.Gone also is fumbling for the rope and positioning the hand pull when the pole's length is changed.With the pruning stick, the flip of a lever permits telescoping.And there's no rope to slow you down.

This is a very well designed tool which is well worth the higher price it commands.

Works well when new
I've used the Telescoping Pruning Stik for 5 months to maintain 5 25ft trees. The cutting head works well for 3/4" and thinner branches. Larger than that and the jaws often get stuck around the branch. Once while trying to free it, the plastic head came off of the aluminum pole, so now I know to rotate the entire pole around the branch instead of trying to pull it free. After freeing the jaws, I was able to reattach the head. The ball-shaped pull knob on the bottom end seats very tightly and often the entire end cap comes off while trying to free it. I think it would be easier to operate if it was a T-handle. Likewise, the upper grip would also be easier to operate if it had a lower lip or pistol grip for a more positive grip. Or replace them with some sort of lever actuator for more mechanical advantage.

For branches thicker than 3/4", I use the woodzig blade. The blade cuts on the pull stroke. The blade is tough to use on thinner, flexible branches, but works pretty quickly on thicker, stiffer branches. I haven't used the blade as much and time will tell how effective it will be as it dulls. I keep the clamp attached to the pole, but I've already lost the original screw and wing nut that holds the blade. I had attached them to the clamp for storage, but should've attached them to the blade.

While the Pruning Stik was excellent when new, all of the plastic parts seem to have loosened over time. While the pole seemed flexible when new, the looseness makes it feel even more flexible. However, nothing has broken yet and it has been much less expensive than hiring professionals to trim those same trees. If and when something does break, I will be contacting Fiskars about warranty service. I should've kept the original shipping box though as it's tough to find another box that long.

Effortless
Delivery took six weeks. The cutting action is so effortless, I couldn't tell whether a smaller branch had been severed, as there was virtually no resistance. I only wish that A:Fewer parts were plastic B:The pull cord were longer so I could hold the stik overhead and still use it at maximum height, and C:There was a 10 foot extension to get even higher branches. ... Don't bother
The doors don't close properly, and are very difficult to open. There is no way to latch the doors, so there is no way to keep children out of this cabinet if you are using it for paints or chemicals.

LAME - DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
It looks great but it does not close properly. The doors remain open at all times even though it is not even full. Don't bother with this.Shop around and find a different one.

This set Rocks like a Campervan on a Honeymoon!
I've had no problems at all with this set.I've used it numerous times since I received it last month, and I couldn't be happier. What's great about it is the pivoting shank (neck?) on the thing that allows you to get into places other screwdrivers can't.I've used pivoting screwdrivers before, but this one actually locks in at a 45-degree angle, and won't slip in high torque situations the way others will.I've used this on my cars where I can attach the sockets to it and turn nuts in places my regular ratchet can't reach.

I've seriously reefed on this thing with as much force as I could muster (I'm not a small guy) when tightening the valve adjustment nut for the number three cylinder on my 1967 VW Van (which I love) and the thing held up under my best effort.I'm not saying it's unbreakable, because nothing is.I'm sure I could stick this thing in my vise put all my weight on sideways and it would break, but why would I do that.I paid for this thing!I found the bits and sockets to be pretty good.Sure they'll wear out a little faster than a professional quality socket set, and if you're a pro mechanic who goes at it 8 hours a day 5 days a week you probably won't even be looking at this set. I use it for a couple hours every weekend on my old air-cooled car collection (these VWs need a lot of attention, but they're worth it)and it's held up just fine under my abuse.This quickly went from being an impulse buy addition to my already extensive toolset, to being the most regularly usedtool in the box.Unlike my other ratchet sets, this one has a case with a labeled spot for every bit and socket, so they don't all end up floating around my toolbox. Battery Charger Problem
I read the other review about the problem with the Black & Decker battery charger.I also had my charger quit on me.I had 2 batteries that came with the drill. I bought another 14.4 volt B&D product so I could continue to use the drill.I quickly found out it wasn't the battery charger that was causing the problem.When I tried to recharge one of the old batteries in my new charger, it quit like the old one.After calling B&D, I was told the problem is with the battery.Once the battery goes, so will the charger.The problem is you never know when your battery is about to go until it is too late and your charger is killed as well.I think I'll cut my losses and try another brand.

serves the homeowner well
i've had my set now for at least 2 years. i started with the drill kit and added the sawzall and circular saw.i don't have the flashlight but am keeping my eyes out for cheap deal on one.

the drill works very well. using it for a satellite tv business i've probably put mine through more abuse than the average homeowner would.it has plenty of power for most applications.occasionally i wish it was a bit lighter for finesse stuff but i shouldnt complain.sometimes the drill bit works itself loose and falls out (rare) but that may just be a symptom of having a quicker chuck system which i think is worth it.i did a job in the pouring rain last week knowing full well i could destroy the drill.a couple days later some minor surface rust made the chuck hard to work but after only 2 changes it was back to normal and the drill is as good as ever.

the sawzall is awesome.tons of power.i've used it many times.my favorite application is with the pruning blade on small brush and branches.zips right through it.

the circular saw is ok.it does bind up occasionally more than a corded saw would.the power doesnt feel as strong as sawzall but that could be an illusion.its great for 2x4's, plywood,etc when you just cant use a corded saw (and even sometimes when you could!)

the batteries have held up well i'd say overall.i'm up to 4 of them that i rotate.if i only had one i'm sure it wouldnt be enough.but with 4 i always have a couple ready to go.
i wish the charger was an intelligent rapid charger but hey, if you are buying something that costs about half what other sets cost they have to be saving money somewhere.an optional intelligent rapid charger would be a nice option.

**there is definatley a problem with the chargers burning out after a while.i can't put my finger on a cause but mine were about 2 years old when they both went.i'm wondering if resistance of a dying battery might trip something in the charger making it die.i threw out my first one then it happened to the second a month later leaving me up a creek.i dug around and found an old charger of similar voltage and cut off the base and spliced it on.so far so good.it is definately the plug (ac to dc transformer) that blows, not a short in the base itself which is fine and can be reused if you replace the plug.

Nice for the money
I got this set in the Firestorm with 18v of power. So I cannot speak directly for this product, but i can for black and decker.

Really nice for the money, black and decker is made by or in conjunction with dewalt. I have had my set for about two years now and all the tools work well, however, I am starting to notice that the batteries are beginning to die, which is bad because new batteries are quite costly. Battery dies and no go!
We loved this trimmer. Lightweight, easy to manuever, no bumping or cutting to get line! Our yard is fairly small, so the charge was plenty to finish the job. HOWEVER, this - our third year - it was not holding a charge. I called B&D - that's just what happens. WHAT? A new battery pack is about $30-35. A new corded model ST-4000 is about $35.00. They should make you aware that you will be either buying new batteries or replacing the unit every three-four years. OUCH!

Dependable, Easy to Use.
I'm on my second season with this edger and, so far, no problems.I have .3 acres on a corner lot.That's a lot of sidewalks and fenceing to edge.If I do the entire yard in one day, the battery does run down, but I get most of the yard done.Typically, I do the front yard one day and the back yard another day (mow and edge) just because it's a lot of work for this old girl.I'm not getting any younger.When I split the work up this way, my edger and matching cordless lawnmower handle the load quite well.Hopefully, I'll continue to get good service. ... It's about time somebody came out with one of these--hats off to Wagan! It's small, light, inexpensive, and needs only a 12-volt power supply. This is what we want to have in the car the next time the stars are dim and the tire goes flat. It even has a built-in light. As small as it is, the Wagan will fully inflate a vehicle tire as well as the little stuff like basketballs, beach floats, and inflatable boats. Piece of junk
Worked twice, then just stopped working. Blew fuses on cigarette lighters in both our cars.Yes you get what you pay for. Think.You can pick up a blow dryer for your hair for about same price; and it will work for a few years, For this product to just stop working after a few uses indicates this manufacturer has no qualms about selling defective merchandise.
Amazon should dump this product.

Good for Starting Fires
First time and only time I used it was to inflate a motorcycle
tire. The bike was idle for 2 years and had 10 pounds in the
tire. When I turned it on, it danced and bounced around
on the driveway because it is so light. Had to hold it against
the tire with my foot so it wouldn't flip over from jumping
around. It sounded like it was working hard when connected.

I connected it for about 30 seconds, then tested
pressure with a tire gauge. Only got a pound more.
Reconnected for 1 minute, got up to 12 pounds.
Hmmm...This is going to take a while....
I figured I let it run for a few minutes while squeezing and
watching the tire carefully. After about 3 minutes I look down
at my feet and see it belching smoke. I quickly unplugged it
before flames. This thing is way too cheaply made.

Compressor broke first time I used it!
I used the compressor only once and it would not go over about 20 psi. Then it shorted out after running for about 5-10 minutes. I returned it for a refund. ... Read more

Works good on vinylfloors
I was looking for a light small vacuum that does not make so much noise it scares the cat.This one is quiet, but as it says in the instructions it is not equipped to deep clean carpets.It does a good job on vinyl floors.

I had my doubts . . .
I bought this because my husband wanted it.When I opened it, I thought it was too lightweight to really work.But I was wrong.I'm really happy with it for quick-cleaning the kitchen and bathroom floors.In fact, it even picks up surface debris from rugs like the one by the front door that catches all the sand from the steps (depending on the rug, you may only be able to sweep in one direction).I have been using it for several months and have no complaints.In fact, I will probably buy another one for the basement.
