Super tool
I recently lost my reconditioned 3107 in a fire and I'm going to buy another just like it. Does that say anything? Tons of power. Just completly different from using a discount store vibrator. A little heavy, definatly a 2-handed affair, but thats OK. There are sexier looking sanders but the "polisher" looking handle is adjustable and functional. Dust collection is unimpressive (never connected to a vac.) All-in-all one of my favorite tools.

Great Sander - superior dust collection - bargain price!
Having been VERY disappointed with the performance and long-term quality of the Black & Decker, Porter Cable & Dewalt versions of this machine, I thought I'd try this reconditioned unit.
It is GREAT! Very quiet and smooth running with really exceptional dust collection, I am VERY impressed. It has no tendency to "spin-up" at all and the dust collection is nothing short of amazing. The only shortfall I can find is the need to remove the front handle to sand close to a vertical surface with the front of the machine.
At the price of a mediocre, inferior product, it is an irresistable bargain if you need one.
I certainly look at Bosch tools with a new found respect. ... Read more

Reconditioned Makita Belt Sander Not Reliable
I was pleased with the price of the factory reconditioned Makita R9910 Belt Sander, but after VERY limited use, I find it would not start with out a "push", and now, after owning it for 2 years, but using it very little, it has refused to start at all.I have been unhappy with its poor reliability and would not buy another reconditioned Makita product.

The unit works acceptably.However, it is not a refurburshed sander.It is used.I have purchased numerous refurburshed Dewalt power tools and they have obviously been "re-built."This unit was not even cleaned, let alone re-built.

USED - not reconditioned
I just received my sander, which seems to work fine......but calling it "reconditioned" should be false advertising.This is a USED piece of equipment.If it was reconditioned, it wouldn't arrive covered in a thick layer of oiley sawdust, with rust on the base plate.The least they could do is wipe it off if they had it in the factory.A manual and warrantee info would be nice to have as well. ... Best In Its Class
Plenty of power- doesn't bog down. Long lived ....... in shops I've worked in PC was the sander of choice.Belt tracks very well. The variable speed is handy and is a separate wheel control as it should be. At this price and the full warranty it's a no brainer. You could pay more and get a lot less sander.

Need to remove alot of stock?This sander is the best.
After trying several belt sanders on the market, I was extremely happy to come across this one.For starters, it never bogs down. No matter how much pressure is put on the platen or how long it runs, the motor never bogs.That was the main problem with other belt sanders I have used.

The sander also has some heft to it.It is not a light weight machine.This is good because it doesn't need a lot of extra force to remove a lot of stock, and the weight helps to keep it on track.If weight is a concern for you, you need to look elsewhere.Although the "elsewhere" sanders won't work as well!

This sander is tough.I was sanding a faceframe one day when my partner accidentally unplugged the machine.I set the machine down (this part is embarrassing) forgetting to turn the trigger off.When I plugged it back in, it pulled itself across the bench and onto the floor before I realized what was happening.It bounced a couple of times and continued across the floor before pulling the plug from the outlet.It purrs like a lion to this day.There has been other times when it has been dropped or stepped on and has never had any problems.

The only drawback, and the reason I gave it only 4 stars, is the dust bag.It gets in the way sometimes when working on other than horizontal surfaces.It can be swung around, though, to the left or right out of the way.Also, the dust bag forms a rub hole, right at the top where the aluminum tube ends inside the bag.I've sealed it with clear silicone which works fine. ... Dewalt vs. Bosch
First I bought here on ToolCrib the Bosch 3727DEVS 6" and Bosch 3725DEVS 5" random orbital sanders and loved them. They are both good tools. I manufacture R/C model sailboats out of fiberglass and I have used them every day for a year now and they are excellent. So.. when DeWalt ran their special last month for $250.00+ purchase I need to "fill out" my order and I picked up a RECONDITIONED DW423KR 5".

I did not expect it to be as good as the Bosch...WHAT A SURPRISE I received! It is smaller and lighter than the Bosch sanders, and does not have the added handle they have which means it can get into tighter areas... but then does not have the pure power of being able to manhandle it because of the missing handles. ok,... it is as smoooooth as the Bosch 6" which has the extra ballbearing set the Bosch 5" does not. Power? The DeWalt is ever bit the heavy duty tool they say it is packed into that little frame and it came with it's own case/box which is always a plus with me.

The DW423KR uses the same hook/loop paper you use on your other 5" sanders and has the same 8 hole dust removal pattern. A small shopvac will take the dust right off the project surface when you mount it to the dust exhaust.

The only thing I can knock the DW423KR on is that while it is a variable speed tool... it is basically variable between medium and high... there is not much if any range in a low or slow speed.... so you have to back off your grit instead of just backing the speed way down. Other than that.. it is almost a magic wand that makes the errors go away.

Dust? What dust?

Fast but has problems
I've owned this sander for several years. The dust collection tube worked at first but then wouldn't stay on. Now the off/on switch broke. Too bad. This is a fast, smooth sander with problems.

Fine Little Sander
Received my reconditioned sander the other day and used it immediatly out of the box (very fast shipping!).It fit my palm perfect, floats over the wood like a charm and is fun to sand with.The most annoying thing is that the dust collector pops off for no apparent reason every 1-2 minutes and spreads a very fine powder all over the place....very messy to say the least!I attribute this to it being used and/or weak rubber O-rings which hold it in place.Highly recommend this and most PC products! ... Great performance!
A very agile and capable tool!The Makita BO5010 is very comfortable to hold - I'm a petite female so hand size is sometimes a problem, but it wasn't an issue at all with this product.It is light, very effective & easy to use.The only problem would be the dust collection system - it did collect some dust, but not enough to warrant that as a major feature.There was no indication that the one I received was reconditioned, except for the R code, no box, and no manual/information.The sander was in perfect condition! ... Smoothest palm sander yet!
This sander caused me to put my other finish sanders on the shelf! The dust collector really works, I thought that there was no way a hard canister would catch that much dust, but it does.
I have used this as final sanding on several projects now and it has produced excellent results.The only drawback was keeping track of the punch plate for putting the holes in the sandpaper, but that comes from being an older woodworker. ... Read more

Excellent sander, great price, but not "reconditioned"
The Makita R9911 works extremely well for sanding large flat areas.It is 10 3/8" long and weighs 5.7lb, so it feels quite bulky if you are not using is on a horizontal surface.However the tool is very well balanced, and it is also relatively quiet (rated at 82dB, which is much quieter than most power tools).The only difference compared with the slightly cheaper R9910, is that the R9911 has the advantage of a variable speed selector (250-900 ft/min). The trigger mechanism can be locked "on" for extended use, just like a variable speed drill.Changing the belt is accomplished very easily via a single lever, and once the new belt is in place it locks in well and seems to stay in place during operation. Makita describes the dust collection system as "highly efficient": it does work a bit better than similar systems I have used on other sanders, but it still spreads a fair amount of dust around.My major complaint about this offer is that there was no indication at all that the manufacturer had done anything to "recondition" the tool I received.It arrived covered in oil and sawdust and its dust bag was about 1/4 full.It took quite a while to clean the tool, but once clean it did look almost new.There was no replacement label - it still shows "9111" as the model number, not "R9111".There was no factory packaging of any kind, and no user manual or warranty.It is like buying a used tool, not a reconditioned one.Nevertheless in my case the item I received is in great condition and works flawlessly, and it cost substantially less than a new model... ... I purchased this sander in March and have used it extensively since.Although, not as powerful as its Craftsman or Jet cousins - it more than makes up for it with its excellent price which is around half of the price of the aforementioned.

Features of this grinder
The Milwaukee 4 1/2" "Magnum" grinder model#6148 may just be one of the best hand grinders for the money available in the USA. This unit is rated at 8.5 amps and 1.6HP, that translates into some unusual power. I am a welder, I use a hand-held grinder quite a bit. I need a unit that will take stock down fast and smooth jagged cuts and welds with speed and flexablity. This unit fit the bill well and the price is fantastic. Only one other manufacturer makes a comparable unit but the price is a bit higher and the amperage rated a bit lower (but it's yellow!). Good tool for good price
Although I wasn't looking for a reconditioned tool,I have no complaints with this purchase.It looks like new and comes with a manual and case.It performs well and I didn't even have to adjust the tracking on the belt that comes with it.I'm refinishing my kitchen cabinets and this tool is very helpful in sanding the narrow places.

Aabsolutely Great detail sander
I bought mine from a tool service center to sand on hardwood floors on an outside porch on edges and corners and between the numerous upright posts,which it does with no problem, making it look and really be "Quick and easy". The tight radius of the tip gets"hard it get to"jobs done easily with a speed you can set easily with the dial.At slower speeds it smooths like a dream and quiets down too,although it whines at the higher speeds so ear and dust protection is needed.Also care is required when holding that fingers don't move onto the belt and it's pinch points. Best deal for your $$$$$
I purchased this sander locally.Took it home and had it up and operational within 10 minutes.You don't need a mount or special base for this.I set it up on a sheet of plywood without securing it and it's pleanty heavy to stay put.The only issue I see is that you have to pretty much disassemble it to change the disk paper (hence the one star off).I can live with it.Well worth your $$$$$. ... Mine works great
Mine works great and I wouldn't trade it for any other kind or brand name.As a matter of fact I put away another brand name the first day after I started using this model.It's a solid machine that simply works great, and it has been doing that for a long time now. The way I see it, Amazon makes it easy for you to purchase just about any sander on the market.I tried this one and if I have to buy another one, I'll have 2 of the same kind.

I have had no problems with any reconditioned products from Amizon.com in the past.I love my drill press and nail gun.My sander came in just as the previous review.It was covered in sawdust and had some rust.Amizon sent me another one overnight and it was in better shape.I kept it and know that Amizon will take care of me.The return sticker took a while to recieve, after the new one came, but I had no problems sending it back,I guess I need to trust the customers reviews.

Returned Item says it all
The belt sander was returned immediately due to it's condition. It was supposed to be factory reconditioned "Like new".It was covered in heavy sawdust and the collector bag had a large hole in it.The collector tube was so out of shape it would not attach to the sander.Stick to the new products for Porter Cable.If the cost for new is too high, purchase a Makita. ...
