5-0 out of 5 stars For myself - Best bang for the buck.
I bought this saw a year ago and have been 99.9% satisfied. I recently built a 3000 sq./ft house and bought the saw for trimming out. My builder uses a Dewalt 12" double bevel and the reason he went with 12", is to cut 4x4's in one pass. I on the other hand am not building decks yearly as he does. I used his saw for a few cuts and noticed blade wobble with the standard 12" blade that came with it. I didn't need to pay extra to cut a 4x4 depth, but I think it's worth paying extra for a slide saw to cut a wider board. I'll cut a wider board more often than a deeper board.

I have used the Makita LS1013 for standard size crown (3-1/2") and 5-1/4" base. I've also trimmed two staircases (newel post, balusters, handrail, and wainscot). For a "Jack of all trades", master of one (electrician), who does not handle a saw daily, this saw is very precise. It can shave a mm, or any other "frog's hair" measurement consistently. The double bevel keeps you from having to flip your work all the time when cutting miters. The crown stops are convenient and the table will miter up to 47 deg. The motor connected to the blade, with no belt, makes for a smooth - low vibration power transfer and the saw head is not bulky and easy to push down.

The only "con" I have is that the degree scale for the bevel is a bit small in diameter. I noticed the Dewalt 12" had a larger diameter scale making it easier/quicker to place the pointer. The Makita scale marks are so close together, it takes more patience to get it right.

4-0 out of 5 stars Makita 10" Dual Compound Slide Saw
Nothing less than what you'd expect in quality and performance in a Makita product.Well made and easy to use.The one design flaw is in the short fence which makes it difficult to cut large or tall molding. Reconditioned tools from Makita are a bargain, coming with a factory warranty - hard to loose.

1-0 out of 5 stars a shoeless wonder
The black shoe falls off regularly (which knocks the transparent covers off, as well).Received a replacement, but don't know if it's going to work.Grat for sawing curves with bevels...just can't saw straight at 90 degrees.Blades bend from lateral movement while sawing. Not a good 'un.Go with Bosch or Porter Cable.Got sharp teeth?Buy a coping saw.Or a knife.Wish I had....

1-0 out of 5 stars I should have bought the Bosch
I am on my second saw in 6 months with little use

Good points:

Lots of power
Accepted universial and T shank blades

Bad points:
Sole plate sticks and is hard to accurately adjust.
Both saws pulled to the left when cutting.
Could not cut a straight line using a guide fence, blade would pop out of guide roller or pull the wood lose from a clamped down guide fence resulting in a bowed cut. The cut was also off perpenducilar. Got two different stories from Dewalt on this. One person said it should saw with a guide fence(straightedge) another person said it wouldn't and I needed to buy a different tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Need to improve Keyless blade
I purchased this item and the only problem that I have found is the keyless blade system. The operator manual doesn't mention that you must have the blade attachment at the right position before the keyless blade will function. To set the blade attachments to the right position you will have to operate the jig saw and try to stop the reciprocating blade shaft attachment to the exact position. This will require few trys and lots of patience. ... Read more

6. Factory-Reconditioned Milwaukee 6521-81 Heavy Duty 11 Amp Super Sawzall with Orbital Action
by Milwaukee - Reconditioned
Tools & Hardware
list price: $375.00
Asin: B00006IZHD

Editorial Review

This review refers to the new model of this tool. This is a reconditioned powertool. Reconditioned generally means that the tool has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the tool back to like-new condition. Some tools may contain cosmeticblemishes. Reconditioned tools come with the same warranty as their newcounterparts.

For years, Milwaukee's Sawzalls have been valued for their outstanding ability to cutthrough almost any material: wood, nail-embedded wood, steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, drywall, composition materials, hard rubber, cement, brick, plaster, and fiberglass. This 11 amp Super Sawzall has a standard blade stroke mode, plus an orbital stroke modefor more aggressive, faster cutting of thick wood. You can choose the level of orbitalaction, too, to fit the application--or you can switch it off for cutting in metal. Like almostall reciprocating saws, this Super Sawzall also has variable-speed control (with a speedcontrol dial) for versatility, control, and increased efficiency over a wide range ofapplications. For those of you who've grown up with Sawzalls, you'll appreciate theaddition of the handy Quik-Lok blade clamp, which lets you change blades quicklywithout having to use a hex wrench; this feature is especially convenient when you'recutting hard materials, such as steel, a situation in which blades break frequently. There'salso a handy quick lever adjustment for the shoe.

We really like this tool's counterbalancing mechanism, which reduces some of theunavoidable vibration found in reciprocating saws. The difference you feel whenoperating this tool, compared to nonbalanced saws, is significant: the Super Sawzall isstill extremely powerful, yet it has a smooth feel. As a result, of course, you can worklonger with less fatigue than you can using other, unbalanced saws. Another significantfeature is the clutch, which, by absorbing shock and impacts to the internal mechanicscaused by sudden blade lockups (typically encountered during extreme use), minimizestime wasted tending to a damaged saw. Although this is a heavy tool, it does have anergonomically designed rubber grip that provides a solid, comfortable hold. --TimBlock ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This saw is not for wimpy Guys.
Great saw !!!!!! the dust bag doesn't work very well but real Carpenters really don't care about that, because if your afraid of getting a little saw dust on you then you shouldn't be cutting the wood in the first place! It's how accurate the saw is not if the dust bag works that makes the saw great.....the next thing you know some wimpy guy might need a laser light on it instead of eyeballing the cut.....what a waste of good wood that would be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smooth As Silk
This has to be absolutely the smoothest running and operating saw I have ever used. Easy operation, and the pull handle with the operating switch fits my hand perfectly for easy operation, and pull-down.this is a precision instrument, that has the feel and looks,of the fine saw that is is.Access of the bevel release is somewhat cumbersome, but this is trivial unless you are doing but alot of various beveled cuts , which is no problem for me.the blade guardoperates smoothly , which I found to be a frequent problem withsome other saws of this type.Pulling down the blade arm is very smooth and easy, with hardly any effort or awkwardness. do yourself a favor, RUN, and purchase a model # 708 Dewalt DB compound Mitre Saw

5-0 out of 5 stars DW708 slide saw
I recently worked on a log home were we used this type of saw. It was a real work horse of the project right from the start all the way till the end.The bevels and miter cuts were very accuarte
settings were very easy to use. This saw out performed other brands that i have used in the construction trade. It easily handled cuts on rafter truss,s,8"9"&10"pine logs full&half log anything that you could feed it. Does a wonderful job not one bit of problem.Combine this with a good work table it sped up the production 10 fold when you have to make alot of cuts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this saw- NOW.
I don't need to mention the quality and reliability of Milwaukee products. It goes without saying. But I want to mention the unbelievable service.I was given this reconditioned saw a few weeks ago as a gift.It was in near mint condition with all of the accessories, case, and blade intact.I noticed that there was a fdeep scratch in the shoe, so I called the service number for advice about either grinding it out or getting a replacement. To make a long story short, they immediately sent me a replacement shoe UPS no questions asked.Whereas some companies would have made me bring the saw back for this minor glitch, Milwaukee stepped up to the plate and got the issue resolved in the most expeditious manner possible.Based on this treatment, I will not hesitate to purchase Milwaukee products in the future.By the way, the thing works perfectly, and the tilt-lok feature is incredibly handy- I'm left handed and any leverage advantage I can get is much appreciated!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rip away
Outstanding value compared to other products with such robust specs as 7 ¼" blade and 3 ¼ HP.I didn't feed it anything overly massive - standard 2x4 pine, oak, some plywood and mdf - which didn't even give it a pause. The cuts were clean - which was not expected with the standard blade.Repeated use was not laborious with the overall light weight and handle design.Well balanced and everything in the right place - this from a history of B&D and Dewalt loyalty and use.Biggest job change was a bit more safety and attention required with the lack of electric break.Five stars because it does everything I asked of it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bosch rules
Save some money and order this reconditioned saw. the one I bought had some little scraches on the table top but not a thing that would effect the performance of the saw.It seems to be working great for me. I built a play house for my sons and I did a lot of ripping of 2x4s and it worked out great. I own other bosch tools and they all have been reliable. I also own a 18v Skil high performance drill and saw and that works good too. Skil is made by bosch but not as expensive. Keep up the research because you will find what is the best buy for your hard earned cash. Amazon has been a good place to research products for me and to buy from.

2-0 out of 5 stars New saw is a better value
Reconditioned is supposed to be "returned to like-new condition". The saw I received does not look new to me, it looks like a used saw. Deep scratches in the table and some sawdust. For a bit more more, you can get the new version with extensions and stand. The money saved buying a slightly beat-up looking used saw isn't worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like new
I was very surprised and very happy to recieve my saw in new packaging and to see that it had been totally reconditioned. I couldn't find a mark on it. It assembled easily and runs perfectly. The motor has plenty of power which makes for very smooth, easy cuts. It is everything they said it would be. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good design, reasonable value
This is good portable table saw, and the reconditioned one I received was in perfect condition except for a minor scratch or two.

Plusses: It has standard 3/4" slots for its full-size miter gauge, a solid table, and a real throat plate that can be changed to accomodate a dado up to 11/16".It has an excellent splitter/guard.The elevation mechanism is solid and fairly smooth. The extensions to 24-1/2" work smoothly and they're fairly solid. The fence will stay parallel after you you take it out of the box if you do an initial, simple realignment. There's very good storage on the base for all the parts. It mounts on a pair of sawhorses.Setup is easy.

Minuses:The fence isn't as easy to set accurately as the superb rack & pinion-driven fence on the DeWalt Model 744 portable saw, and the base is plastic, like the other saws of this type. The packaging was too flimsy for surface UPS handling -- this thing ships at 74 pounds and it needs a stronger box and more foam -- there were loose parts that could have fallen out of the split corners of the box. Minor complaint -- the manual tells you how to check and adjust most misalignments, but not how to to realign a misaligned pointer for the tilt angle.

Advice: I looked at 5 or 6 portable table saws at stores before I bought the reconditioned Porter Cable from Amazon. No portable table saw is as solid as my big old Delta contractor's saw, but the Porter Cable a lot more solid than the cheaper Sears, Delta and Skil portable table saws sold by home centers, and better designed and somewhat more solid than the Makita.(The DeWalt and Bosch available from Amazon are tops.)If you need a small saw and/or portability, this one is a good value, although I would bet that a reconditioned DeWalt or Bosch would be good values as well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unpleasantly Surprized
The first shock I got when I opened the package was that the entire base of the saw is a very thin plastic, including the mounting structure.I have looked at a lot of table saws (other brands) in stores and they usually have very sturdy cast iron or aluminum bases. I could break a piece out of the base without even straining at it.
The second was the missing parts: assembly screws for the table insert, blade wrench, handle for the blade height adjustment and a small spring which holds the table insert was bent and useless.
As it is I can't start it up due to the loose table insert so I don't know if it really works without ordering missing parts.
I'm not happy about this! ... Read more

Smooth is the word here ...... soft starts, and no bogging down with the electronic motor control. Dead on right out of the box. Nice cutting capacities ......... will do the vast majority of what a SCMS will do for a lot less money. Easy to carry despite its size- handle is in just the right spot. Highly recommended.

The Makita was delivered in six days.Everything was in excellant condition.I have had no problems with the saw and I love it! The larger size blade is exactly what I need in order to cross cut the various sizes of lumber I am working with.I believe the 12" saw will work better than the sliding 10" compound Makita. I encourage anyone who would go with a 10" to step up to the 12" blade. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Delta Tool or Toy
Delta should be ashamed to put there name on that toy ah tool and to call it professional. I was so dissatisfied when I opened the box and looked at the condition of the saw and the play in the blade and the material of the saws general construction. I closed the box and sent it back for a refund. Save your money so you can spend a little more and get a real table saw.

4-0 out of 5 stars Able and heavy, but buy new
I ordered this unit, reconditioned, from Amazon at the end of August, beginning of September, and got it soon thereafter. Strategic parts were missing. It took about two months and at least five phone calls to get all the missing parts. Besides that, the blade had obviously been used--had tar on it. For the money I saved, I would recommend paying the extra $60 or $70 for a new one.

By saving money, I lost time and have yet to finish the retaining wall I specifically bought it for. I will resume in late winter or early spring.

In the meantime, the saw is an excellent piece of equipment. Easy to use, has an extender, also has the slots on the underbody to accommodate two parallel 2-by-4s if you want to fashion a miter table. Fully assembled (with extension platform) the unit is heavy, which reflects its sturdiness. It has a transporting grip which enables carrying it with one hand. I keep it in a backyard shed, but to move it requires grunt effort. In the future, I will move it using a small Red-Flyer wagon.

In the meantime, I have a 10" Makita miter saw (non-compound). Originally, I thought I would sell it, thinking that having the Porter Cable would make it redundant. No way! I just completed a closet in one of my rooms. I used the Makita to cut the studs. The Makita is the perfect miter saw for 2-by-4 framing. And, you guessed it--it's very light. I would say the Makita 10" is a truly portable saw, whereas the Porter Cable 12" is a transportable saw.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great saw.
This is a great saw, at a great price. It had absolutely no problems.I mounted an 80 tooth Forrest Chopmaster,It cuts everyting that I have given it with absolutely no hesitation. The system that Porter Cable designed into the saw for mounting on 2x4's at the job site is ingenious, and works like a charm. I am very happy with this purchase, and will always look for reconditioned tools from now on.

1-0 out of 5 stars Porter-Cable Yes!Amazon Reconditioned Products No!
Am returning this item as it was received without any owner's manual or other documentation and was covered with sawdust. If this saw was reconditioned then I don't know what reconditioned means. The blade actually had sawdust caked behind the teeth.I would assume that reconditioning at least means blowing the saw off with compressed air before packing for shipment... That way I'll get the owner's manual and warranty info too. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars leaves something to be desired
Although the depth gauge is quick and easy, there is no visibility around the base to the blade. It is heavy, so it's not for the traveling worker.

4-0 out of 5 stars great saw

2-0 out of 5 stars Reconditioned Sawzall has nicked spiral gear
Milwaukee appears to have an excellent warranty, even with their reconditioned tools.Given their poor reconditioning efforts with the 6521 I purchased from Amazon, such a warranty is important!
The tool LOOKED fine, and aside from another's initials on the handle (no biggy, expected such with recond. tool), it has obviously not been used much. When I checked the grease in the gears (due to my plan to use it in -5F to -20F conditions I wanted to use a synthetic moly lube good down to -60F) I noticed three nicks on the spiral gear that drives the tool (comes off the end of the armature shaft).A Milwaukee repair guy said this is a BAD SIGN.Also, I noticed the grease looked rather old.Nobody had bothered checking the gears or grease when reconditioning this tool, I suspect.

Poor tool design in this case. It should be a small separate gear on the end of the armature so one doesn't have to replace the whole armature. My local Milwaukee tool guy said it would be fixed for free.

It is not worth the savings to have to mess around with such problems, nor would most have noticed such a problem until deep into a demolition job somewhere, or perhaps out in some remote area like I plan to be with this tool.I recommend you buy the NEW tool versus this reconditioned version. Also, if you do buy a USED tool like this, you might want to check out that critical
little gear on the end of the armature and make sure it is well greased before you go off to work with it.

Otherwise, sure, this tool works very well.I would prefer more stability in the drive shaft for more accurate cuts, but don't know where one could find a better tool. The blades fit a little loosely, but then this tool is not designed for accurate cuts, anyway. So much for amazing my co-workers by using it like a jig saw!

Milwaukee has now changed their quick change fitting to one that is stronger and less subject to wear, as my recond tool. came with a somewhat worn but still fully functional quick change fitting. The metal is too thin where the blade rests against it.

Contrary to what most seem to think, I have never been impressed with Milwaukee's quality or engineering with their tools, and this case is no exception.Their switches on other 120V tools give me problems and require regular replacement, but maybe they got it right with the switch on this Sawzall. Will see.Their hole shooter drills are good, but costly and rather limited on speed and features.

Yet, the Porter-Cable Tiger saw is a joke of vibration-hell, the DeWALT loads up with gunk, making blade changes a hassle, and the gears in the DeWALTS don't last well for those who use DeWALTS where I work.

The addition of the clutched gear is a important touch on this saw, although I think other things could be done to reduce the chance of damage when doing demolition work.I am not impressed with the plastic quick-change lever, which is subject to breakage
due to its close positioning to the business end of this tool.

The setting switch on the side and the overall functionality of this tool appears to be unmatched by anything else on the market, altho this may not last for very long, and I didn't check out everything available.Given that the new price is reasonable, and the guarantee is excellent, this tool WHEN NEW is worth the money. So, I give TWO stars to the reconditioned tool, but FOUR for the new one (based mostly on comparing it with the competition). --- Geo ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent...and a bit different.
Excellent saw.Lots of power, and the 7.25 inch blade is definitely better than 6" ... that little bit makes a difference.

It's true that the saw takes some getting used to if you're right handed (because your cutting "off" the part of your material which is holding up the saw) but with a bit of practice it becomes easy.

This saw is light -- for a high quality saw.If you're comparing it to a $... departement store saw it will seem heavy... compare it to other professional saws and it's very very light.

Case is nice.Moveable ust port is excellent. The saw is well though out on the details (for example the platform to the left of the blade is exactly 1.5 inches, so setting up a straight-edge to guide the saw is a snap).

Very happy with it.

2-0 out of 5 stars More Visability, But Poor Balance
I've been a professional woodworker in the past and I had high hopes for this product. I'm a big Porter-Cable fan, but not this time. The blade on the left does provide great visability, but the limited size of the base plate to the left of the blade and the overweighting of the motor housing toward the right makes it difficult to keep the saw from tilting when nearing the end of the cut. As the saw tilts to the right at the end of the cut, the lower portion of the blade digs into bottom edge of the board. If you care about having a vertically square end on your board, you're in for a challenge. With practice, one might learn to overcome this stability problem, but a careless moment and you'll have to cut again... and again... and -- well, you get the idea. Great saw for the left-handed, or for when someone else is around to hold the bulk of the board on the right side of the saw... but then there's no increase in visability since the "good" board is back on the opposite side of the blade. The directional dust spot is a great idea, however.

5-0 out of 5 stars saw for all jobs
I do a lot of different things at work, from framing to finish, forming for concrete and all sorts of stuff. This saw handles it all.I have never liked worm-drive saws because of three things 1-excessive noise, 2- excessive maintenance, and 3-they kick when you fire them up.This saw is great, I have always had sidewinders, but was fed up with looking over the saw body to see my blade. The left blade on the Porter Cable solved my problem.Good power to get through all types of lumber and a light feel, and smooth start.Last week, my girlfriend and I built raised vegetable beds and she had a blast using it, she wasn't afraid at all, even when she put it in her left hand. How many saws can a beginner feel comfortable with in the left hand? ...
